Last cup for the day. It got up to 65 today, a georgeous day. But tomorrow the rain and cold return. My wife and I had a nice afternoon out and had our taxes done. Looks like the crooks inside the beltway are going to give us some of our money back. Mighty nice of them. And a little more than last year. Be still my heart. Stay warm all.

Forecasters talking 80° for Sunday & some rain ... then 75° M&T  they claim 84° for Wed. lows in the 50's.
WE may get another cool snap... But it won't last....

No disposable cash, what with TAX time looming, but going to the Melbourne gun show Saturday anyway.  :-\

Nope, I was up at 7:00 to get ready to babysit my grand daughter, had about 2 inches of snow ontop of a half inch of ice to deal with. I do have to give credit to the state snow plow operators, they did a great job clearing the roads and making them drivable this morning.

Took a piece of my fancy walnut to work to night to show Steve.  Well he was sick but the sweet, naive young 22 year old was there.  She said Steve was sick and I said oh, I had something to show him.  She asked what it was and I showed here.  She said it was a piece of wood so like any Jurgasphile (lover of walnut wood) does I licked it to wet it to really show the grain.  Anyway she kinda freaked out that I would lick a piece of wood.

Anyway I thought real quick and told her that's why I wasn't allowed in Home Depot any more.

She almost fainted the day I realized I had a sliver and dug out my pocket knife. ::)

In at least 48 states he would have been arrested for the previous post.

Oh my! Go away for a few days and the places goes to pot.

A week ago today i had been in the ER and was waiting to be isolated by hospital.  The Flu virus decided my personal immune system was weak enough to try and finish me off.  I spent the next 4 days locked in a room.  Recognizing care givers by voices only since. Under extreme chance of caution they shielded them selves entering my room. Donning mask and shields plastic covers over clothes and gloves... i have had many of the caregivers this past year at the hospital. Many recognized me from the past years visits.  The Flu virus i understand here has taken up 20% of the hospital resources.
So on Thursday they sent me home under provision i stay at home  for minumum of 48 hours. Not even a drive thru window contact. (Sure wanted a stop at Dunkin Donut)  It is now Saturday. I am weak, but wanting to get moving again.

It is Feb the fat rodent seen it’t shadow- so six weeks of something will occur.

Coffeee and Tea are up for those ineeeed

Maybe you could get the Pizza Hit guy to pick up some Donuts on the way? NOT a drive thru :) Glad to hear you are still amongst the living. My immune system is pretty dodgy too, I think I have like 1-2 white blood cells total. So yeah, definitely take it easy, and pump yourself full of o.j. and vitamins.

Third cup of folgers gone so I thought I'd say hey.  My wife and I went to our ( 30 miles away) local hospital yesterday to visit a friend recovering from surgery of her badly infected finger. Anyway, at the front desk the security officer asked if we'd had our flu shots. My wife has but I haven't, they gave me a mask to wear. Fine with me, I don't want to catch nothin. Well, I was the only masked man that I saw, considering that, depending on your source, the flu shot is between 17 and 30% effective. Between 17 and 30 folks out of 100 are protected? I'm thinking that EVERYONE should have been masked. And how many football fans who feel a little 'bad'  but bought a 3000.00 ticket for the Super Bowl are going to stay home? Whats 17-30% of 60,000 +? They should call it the Minneapolis Super Petre Dish LII. I wouldn't want to be there.
Hope you're feeling better ther litl rooster.

I too, got the flu shot and just spent the last 5 days in bed drowning in mucus. Today was actually feeling pretty good, spent some time out on the porch in 50degree weather, bundled up.

I shudder to think what it would be like if I hadn't gotten the shot.  :(

I come back to find folks attacked by deluges of virii and phlegm; Del publicly proclaims his over-fondness for boards and

Too muddy to wade out to garden space to drain rain gage. I suppose somewhere around 3 inches by what is in a stock tank outside the barn.
The road in front of FIL’s was covered and dangerous.  Car hydro’d into our mailboxes. One needs replaced the other is back standing.  The goats think they are going to melt. They hang close to the barn and over hangs. The chickens could care less. Pig same he worships the mud. The big dogs like the puddles and runoff also.
Trip to town was uneventful but tiring. I guess i’ll survive returning to work.

Afternoon all.

Sunny and 60 in the land of neutered guns.

Nothing much has gone on in this neck of the woods.  I didn't get that county job.  I finished in the top five applicants, but the guy who got it already had a commercial DL, so he got the job instead.  Oh well.

So today I'm working on my federal student aid application for the fall, trying to get into a school in Billings Montana.  It has an aviation major where you graduate with a commercial pilot license, which is what I will try for.  Wish me luck.

Thanks for the compliments, one of my better builds. Yes, it's a blowback. The bbl and bolt are Olympic Arms, the upper is a DPMS heavy slabside, the lower is a CNC dedicated greasegun mag lower. I'm not sure if the wood is all original but the Cutts is probably original WW2 as it came from Belgium. My bud used his Chinese mini lathe to drill and thread it to get it to thread onto the 16 inch bbl. it took forever to find a guy to cut the fins on the bbl. The drum is an airsoft tommy gun drum with the guts replaced with a cut down GG mag. Holds 11 rds I'm thinking. The Oly ejector is simply a spring that mounts in the upper. There is no LRHO feature due to the gg mags.

Good night at work.  Got there, the boss had wrote off some out dated stuff I hauled to the dumpster.  Got to toss a case and a half of pumpkin spice coffee out.  Hope the homeless Yuppies don't find it, SOB's will be brewing it behind the dumpster in Redd's Apple Ale cans and smoking American Spirit butts they find on the ground.

Chinese place behind had a know show on take out. Owner dropped it off to me at close. He don't speak English well but I work around it with him and understand what he wants.so I guess he likes me.

Morning all, coffee is hot and fresh. Found some old Pumpkin spice coffee, and thought I'd share ;)

It is currently wet out, but nice, temperature wise. Had to run to the outhouse in the middle of the night, and it was downright balmy out. I could live with this, if it didn't leave our road a swampy mess. I guess I was caught off guard by the rain, because they didn't grade the road first.

One of us is always in the little shack- regardless of weather. It has looked pretty barren here during bad weather.  BTW during tornados weather,  we move the operation indoors.

Evening all.

Weather cooled down here today.  Only got 50, with a 20 mile wind.
Picked up a Plano rifle case today at Sportsman's.  Had a discount, got it for $45.  Holds any two of my long guns and Beretta comfortably, and it has holes molded in for a padlock, so I guess that's worth something.

I'm kind of thinking about selling my Remington c&b revolver, but I'm not sure.  I'd be using the money to buy a motorcycle helmet, but without a motorcycle, buying a helmet seems a little pointless.  I don't know.  I haven't been able to fix the indexing on the stupid thing, so I haven't shot it in three years, but selling a gun is always hard.  Someone talk me out of it. ::)

Don’t sell it!  That said it is easier to sell a properly working weapon  than one that is not.  If you can find a cowboy shooting match, you’ll probably find someone who can fix your Remmy.

We have coyotes here in eastern NC. Used to see them driving to work and on the plantsite often( an open pit phosphate mine). They always looked like mangy German shepherds to me. You never see them hit on the road though. Cool and foggy here this morning. Going to warm up to 60 today. Time to get another cup.
You beat me to it rooster, I was going to remind all those lovers in CAS city that today was their day. Time to spend a couple of 20 dollar gold eagles for their honey.

not because they are sparse , just that they very clever to avoid being seen.

Heating element went out in oven...i think no big deal, i bought a replacement a few years back at Blue Box Store. So went out during evening rush hour yesterday to the local store. Got to location and could not find one. I then hunt down associate, they looked at me like a deer in the headlights. After calling another employee i learned they no longer stock thise parts.  He gave me a number to their parts and service. I called and adventually was able to find someone that could look up the parts.  The gentleman says they dont list that model anylonger.  I told him, i bet you $20- that same element fits a hundred models. He started looking, i was right. New one is on the way. If i live long enough to replace it, it will be with a gas model.

Did my V-day shopping and surprising last night. My 2nd grader had "cheer camp" at school last week, and now they get to cheer at a ball game that got weather delayed twice, and finally will be played tonight at 6pm, so I figured there might be no "shopping time" this afternoon.

Roo, when you trade in that newfangled electric oven on a gas one, you'll find they're all newfangled too. No more pilot lights. All replaced by electronic igniters. Not to fear, though, the same igniter fits hundreds of stoves. Ebay and Amazon have them by the bushel basket. Just have to cut the plug off and use the included wire nuts to hook up. There's probably no need to ask how I know.

Will cut into blanks as I have time.

He asked the saw operator if he had any old blades, guy said he did and asked why.  Nephew told him his uncle makes knives out of them, the guy said he never thought of that.  Nephew told him that's cause he wasn't as s!art as his uncle.

Next the high scool called, my grandson was caught messing with his phone during class, iss and Monday suspension. After I pick him up and read him the riot act we go back to the apt and move 2 loads back to my house. We've got 3 wks to mty her place. Then I'm eating dinner and a crown comes off. Didn't swallow the darn thing. Finally after dinner I went out to try my old truck thats been on charge for two days, starts right up but I get the dumb thing stuck trying to turn it around and more rain on the way. I'm going back to bed.

Bahamas resort Baha Mar hiring someone to hang out with flamingos

Bahamas resort Baha Mar hiring someone to hang out with flamingos

By Michelle Gant  |  FoxNews.com
Published February 16, 2018

A new resort in the Bahamas is accepting applications for the role of CFO — Chief Flamingo Officer, that is.

This unusual job at Baha Mar in Nassau entails living on site at the 1,000-acre resort and taking care of the resident flock of flamingos, the country’s national bird, which will arrive at the resort this

While resort life sounds nice, the CFO will have their work cut out for them. This person will be tasked with protecting and caring for the flamingos, oversee the Flamingo Mansion — an expansive indoor, outdoor, aquatic and dry habitat where they’ll be housed — and design interactive programming for Baha Mar guests.

The CFO must also have a degree in Zoology or related field as well as knowledge and previous experience caring for exotic animals.

The selected candidate will work alongside Baha Mar’s Chief Scientist as part of a team dedicated to wildlife and conservation efforts. They’ll also educate guests on the resort’s commitment to protect, preserve and celebrate the islands' wildlife.

If this sounds like your dream gig, you have until February 28 to apply on the Baha Mar website

This is how a chisel is supposed to work.  Inletting for a paring knife with a short tang. Note the thin curl and the smooth edge behind on the nice but not fancy black walnut.

Hard to get a picture of the edge, but a 35 year old Craftsman, was a bit rough from hard use, carbrundum stone, medium diamond, then a washita stone, razor stone and then a strop.  Yes it will shave hair.

You have the edge there Delmonico. Talented fellow. A pretty day here but windy and a little cool. I was busy too and mowed my yard to mulch up all the junk that had come off my pines and pecan trees. An hour 20 minutes for an acre and a half. Not bad and my Dixon ZR fired right up. I was impressed. Got my 2WD Explorer unstuck too. Maybe I don't need the flamingo job just yet. Still got to go see the dentist tomorrow and get my crown fixed. And a checkup tomorrow too. Need to get a tank for the Bernzimatic, glad for a gas stove, wife is sewing in the dining room,
I come upstairs with a can and visegrips.  Turn on the big burner and turn off the kitchen light.  Asks what I'm doing and tell her I'm annealing knife pins.  Ok, whatever. ;D

Sometimes she's scared to ask what I'm doing.

Afternoon all.

Weather took an odd turn around here yesterday.  Saturday was 50 degrees with 15mph winds, then we wake up Sunday morning with were stuff falling from the sky.  By midnight it had hit an inch, at 19 degrees and a 15-25mph wind.  At noon today it's back up to 45, but with the same wind.

My mom picked up an interesting trinket at a yard sale last week that I keep forgetting to mention.  It's a dual liquid fueled iron.  Runs on gasoline and kerosene.  Kind of interesting.  It's in the original, squirrel chewed box too.  Now I'm I could just figure out how to post a picture from my phone we'd be golden

Another AC day here. We both had chores to do and got them done kind of early. So we made a TSC run finished off a gift card i had and some yankee green backs.   Had a box with 3, day old ducks follow us home. Since no one at TSC KNOWS, i will call them Blue Swedes. Judging by feet color. We will see.
Then a drive up to Gadsden, for some seafood. She had a low country boil, i had broiled Trigger fish with smashed taters non powdered kind, and grilled broccoli. Never had the green stuff that way, nor gave i had Trigger fish. Both were excellant. As always here we both brought enough for another meal home

Evening all.

Weather took a turn for the chilly here the past few days. Today we hit 40, up from 15 overnight.  There was about an inch of that fluffy white stuff on the porch this morning.  I took the dog to the top of one of the mountains after lunch, and there was varying amounts of white, from 2-12".  Had to use the 4x4 in the truck to get up.

I want to take her to the ER but she declined....adamantly ....
when "SHE" is adamant  :o best heed her wishes.
It appears, just soft tissue bruising (I hope) , banged up left knee & right shoulder iced. She took 800 M of Ibuprofen and turnned end early.
Seems better this AM, but is sore and her shoulder is stiff .

Still declines the Dr. ( I think "SHE" caught that from me  ::) , I'll try to tough it out )  but I also realize, we aren't youngsters anymore.
I'll take a PTO and hang out with her should she reconsider....  :-\ .

Beside, the AC service ( maintenance contract ) is due out, and I'll deal with that so she does not had to....

Evening all.  Coffee's on me for the night crew.

Today was at least sunnier than yesterday. High was 40.  I took the dog up a different mountain today.  We took a new trail that we haven't been on before.  It turns out that it goes to a 300 foot drop off.  Most of the trip was on the North face, so it was somewhere around 30 degrees, with a brisk wind.  There was about 12" of that white stuff, too.

Now I'm enjoying a nicely padded couch and a DVD of Tombstone.

Morning all.

Weather is a balmy 35 with an equally warm wind of 25mph.  The mountains are obscured by what appears to be falling sn*w around the 3500 foot level.  All together it seems to be a good day to stay inside, if you ask me, which you didn't, but I told you anyway.  ::)

Now for something weird.  My dog is lactating, but doesn't seem pregnant.  With some research on the interwebs, apparently this isn't that uncommon for a dog to produce milk around two months after coming out of heat.  Anyone ever experienced that?

Rain and more rain today, but fairly warm. Creek was about 200 yards wide this morning, I didn't go out to see how deep. ::) Probably bigger now, but I didn't go out to look. Changed a front tire on the big tractor during a break in the weather, then some gunsmith work. Plunger tube on my 1911 came loose(the little thing between the safety and takedown levers). Have had a new part and staking tool for 6-8 months, finally decided to do it. Then did some sewing, had an old nylon holster for my S&W 39 that had the belt loop falling off. All fixed now, but I'd still rather have a nice leather one....

Third cup. A beautiful morning but rain coming in later through tomorrow. We had our monthly cas match yesterday, a nice day. 17 shooters, a big crowd for us. I dug my vaqueros out of the safe and shot the cobwebs out of them. I reduced my load slightly as they had got to rapping my knuckle but I didn't take it into account and had some low misses due to the lack of recoil I'm guessing. Duelist of course. It was a bad day at Black Rock though for some. One shooter had a first rd rifle squib followed by a first rd pistol squib. Another broke his 66 loading gate tab on the first rd, another had a case fail to eject and double feed his 73. A bunch of Ps too. You pays your money and takes yer chances.

Went to the city for church today. Weather was 70 degrees down there.  Quite the change from up here in the hills.  Stopped by the sportsman's Warehouse and picked up a small water filter for when I'm out with the dog.  It screws into a plastic water bottle neck, and theoretically is good for 100,000 gallons.

Apparently the annual gun show is next Saturday and nobody told me.  Had to look it up myself.  I'm going to try and pick up a scope for my mom's rifle at a discount price.

On the other web sites I visit I believe most everything that I post and almost everything I read. But here I believe everything I post and or read. It's a real classy joint. I do think that they hacked our cas match last Saturday. Broke guns, squibs, Ps, too many misses and the occasional bonus. Bad day at Black Rock it was. To show how off it was 3 of the top 4 shooters out of 17 were duelists.

Micha's knife is ready for the oil.

This is one of the blanks I made out of a masonry saw blade.  Hard to get good pictures in the house with the reflection off the blade.  This will get a patina on it to slow rusting.

Wood is Francotte, a French cultivar of the common walnut, also known as English Walnut to most. Wood is Northern California grown on likely a Hinds Walnut root stock, also known as California Black Walnut.

Towel picture is real close to actual color.  Wood is wetted with water, need to pick up some boiled linseed oil and turpintine this week.  The grain will really pop when I get the oil on it.

I like your flintlock there Major. Muzzle loading was the first serious shooting that I ever did. Built a couple myself. Never got bit by the rendezvous bug though. Short story. In my misspent youth traveling across Canada (summer of 1973) I met a self taught gunsmith in Swift Current ,Sasketchuan and we hit it off. He invited me to go prairie dog hunting. He was using an original Sharps carbine, maybe a .50-70 as he had to make his own brass and he let me use his .50 cal front loader. I had a blast to say the least. I wounded a couple but he killed more than a few. I wish that I had spent the summer there and let him teach me something. Dale Freisen was his name, a nice guy.

"M2 is that a True Cavalry Bit on the rack?"

It is Sir,  Circa 1863 ...one of several including a 1874 SHOEMAKER and a 1836 Dragoon Bit.

if of interest.... The sabers are an 1862 Emerson & Silver ( M1860) and an Ames M1840 Wrist Breaker  dated 1857

To the left cased in glass is 2nd Model Griswold & Gunnison made in 1863 & on the Right an 1860 Army 3 screw lettered 1862 and shipped to the 5th Iowa Cavalry.

Afternoon all.

Weather is expected to get real exciting here pretty quick.  Forecast is calling for lightening and hail with 30+mph winds which will become sn*w.  Accumulation of 6-24" expected.  Got wood stacked inside, gas in the generator and plenty of animal feed, since it's expected to close all the mountain passes for at least today and tomorrow.  And since we live in a bowl, the only way in or out is through a mountain pass.
The usual suspects are already posting "we will survive" quotes on Facebook, while the rest of us are pulling out the sleds. ::)

The white stuff has started.  No lightening associated, and no accumulation yet.  Temperature has hit 33.

And what does that meme have to do with the topic of this thread?

I think it's a tad bit inappropriate.
