Where did you buy your usfa?
« on: November 29, 2019, 04:50:40 PM »
I remember their old website and used to visit it often when they were still open. I always figured someday, but i never once found one in person. Just wondering where you guys all got yours, did they go through a distributor, were they all customs with waiting periods, or did you actually find them in a shop? Thanks

MY first two, a pair of Rodeos, I ordered thru my LGS. Later found a Nettleton at the same LGS, and a Sheriffs Rodeo at a different LGS. The last pair Of Doug Turnbull DT serial numbered I custom ordered thru Turnbull. I remember seeing various other USFA guns locally and regret now not snapping up every one I ever saw.

I bought my Doug Turnbull, and a late serial number 4 3/4 BP frame and a Custer Battlefield from Cabela's all used.  I purchased a Henry Nettleton new at what is now my LGS.  I had two others one a 3 1/2 In .45 from a gun show and the other a nickle .44-40 from a GS in Austin, TX.

I niver saw one in any LGS.

Only on line, and once at a show. No Touching Allowed.

In the other USFA threads, we have been discussing how they are basically
fluffed & buffed & prettified Ubertis...

I have to find out how much Turnbull would charge to spruce up a stock Uberti....
or if they would even consider making an Omni

All of mine were used except for the Nettleton.  Sharpshooters in Lubbock, Texas had several new USFA's in the store in around 2008 give or take a year or two.  My daughter was going to school in Lubbock and I would go over there to kill time, while she and her mother did girl stuff.

My Custer Battlefield was purchased long after USFA went out of business. I got it off Gunbroker from a dealer. It was basically new in box but the box was missing the label. I have only seen one USPFA locally and no USFA. The USPFA I saw was seen about a year or two ago, it was a nickel .45 Colt with 7 1/2" barrel, I don't know if they had the box for it; the price was $1,500 and it sold rather quickly.

I've purchased my late production (all USA parts) black powder framed guns over the internet. Never seen one of those for sale locally so I had no choice. You have to be careful in my experience. I got taken to the cleaners on one attempted purchase so I've slowed down my buying. I've got enough to last as long as I'm gonna be shooting.

My Doug Turnbull was my first and I bought it direct from him. I bought my 45 Colt/45 ACP Premium and my 45 Colt Sheriff model at a local gun show. The rest I bought online from private parties and one from an online dealer. All were purchased just prior to the prices skyrocketing. Wish I would have found a Bisley during that time and still don't have a 7 1/2" revolver.

I have the original paper work from Turnbull to the original owner.  It Shipped Feb 26,2008 4 3/4 Blue and Case BP Frame for $1200.  I paid less than a $1000 for it slightly used.

I bought my first one, a 4 3/4" Cowboy, at a gun show in Bozeman in 2009 for $460. It had all the boxes and papers. He had the Cowboy and a Sheriff's Model for about the same price.
I got my second at a gun shop in Butte the same year. It had a blemish in the finish on the barrel and the owner couldn't stand to own a gun with a blemish. You have to look to find it. It's about the size of a pinkie finger nail and is a little lighter than the rest of the bluing. It also had all the boxes and papers. It's a 7 1/2" Flattop Target and I paid $750. Both are .45 Colt.
