45 S&W Schofield load data
« on: October 08, 2011, 11:06:56 PM »
Looking for load data for a 180 gr RNFP 45 S&W Schofield bullet. In all the books that I've been looking at has data for 200 gr bullets and none for the 180 gr. I was told by the factory to use a 180 gr bullet in my Spencer. It would feed better. I am planing on using the Spencer at the GAF Grand Muster the end of October.
Thanks

Use the 180 grain .45acp data for your loads. Its good starting data.  My Lee book has data for the .45 Auto rim, that works as well.  My .45 S&W Spencer fed best with 230 grain truncated cones.
Civilize them with a Krag . . .

Talked to Chris at Hodgdon's and he said a safe starting load with Trail Boss would be 4.5gr.
Loaded a box of fifty and out to the range I went. At 35 - 45 yards  missed 5 rounds out of the 50. Not too bad.
