Title: USFA Rodeo Serial# E957 light trigger pull - scary light less than 1#

I recently purchased a USFA Rodeo on GB. Nothing in the description described the trigger pull. 1# or less. I think it is dangerously light. I have never opened up a SAA. I am wondering how to find out if this is a fix I can accomplish or do I send it to a gunsmith with expertise in SAA. Thanks, -John, San Jose, CA

If you don't know triggers, find a g.s. that can fix it AND end up with a positive engagement (actually rocks hammer rearward as the trigger is pulled).

Any recommendations for a GS would be a real plus.

Where do you live?  If there is anyone within driving distance, that would be way cheaper than shipping.

Well, if the sear and hammer notch engagement is decent, then trigger pull will increase with both a heavier trigger spring and a heavier main spring.  If still too light then probably needs the attention of a 'smith.  How heavy or light is the main spring?  p.s. I am not a gunsmith, though I have done some gunsmithing things (but I draw the line at sears and notches).

Not sure how to test for light or heavy the main spring is. I have pictures, but that is about all I have. I also took the hammer out. There does not look like a lot of hook (meat) on the last notch. I can post a picture if that would help. Thx. -John

It's hard to tell from your pictures but it looks like the screw for the hammer spring may not be tightened down all the way. If it is not bottomed out against the trigger guard then tighten it down, reassemble the gun, and try the trigger. That might be all it takes.

The angle of the dangle for the Sear and the Hammer Ledge are super easy to get wrong.

Fromm the picture of the Trigger/Bolt spring, the trigger side has been flattened out and does not provide sufficient pressure.  Also possible the trigger sear has been "rounded" over and does not set square on the hammer Ledge.  And or the hammer ledge has been subject to incorrect "adjustment".

The fix is not something you "eyeball" unless you've done a hundred or so.  The gun should be looked at by a competent Smith.  Getting the correct "angles" also requires a special "Jig."  At the minimum, your Trigger/Bolt spring needs replaced.  A Uberti Trigger/Bolt spring will suffice nicely.

PS:  When doing SA action work, I have also used Pietta Trigger/Bolt springs for a light but crisp action.

Howdy c95...

You'll get good advice here from some knowledgeable posters. Before you start with the dremel and files, take off the grips, undo the little screw on the bottom of the grip frame and remove the two screws on the grip frame beside the hammer. Now take a look at the screw that holds the hammer spring. If it is not tight to the grip frame try tightening it a bit to see it it helps.
