Sung after gittin' caught buyin' ah new gun when ya sed ya woodn' do it  ;)

Don't be angry with me darling if I fail to understand
All your little whims and wishes all the time
Just remember that I'm dumb I guess like any foolish man
And my head stays sorta foggy 'cause you're mine.

Well, I recall the first time that I flirted with you dear
When I jokingly said come and be my bride
Now the time has turned the pages it's the sweetest joke on earth
That I have you dear forever by my side.

Maybe someday you're gonna hurt me I've been hurting of before
Only God can know and time alone will tell
But in the mean time I'll be loving you with all my heart and soul
And pray God to let it last if it's his will.

So don't be angry with me darling if I fail to understand
All your little whims and wishes all the time
Just remember that I'm dumb I guess like any foolish man
And my head stays sorta foggy 'cause you're mine...

This ole house once knew his children (Still does.)
This ole house once knew a wife (Ditto.)
This ole house was home and comfort  (It’s been here since ’73)
As we fought the storms of life (Smashed by Izzybell)
This old house once rang with laughter (Might as well laff)
This old house heard many shouts (Yeah, still does)
Now she trembles in the darkness (Naw.  Looks better in the dark)
When the lightnin' walks about (Not that either.  Just loses ‘lectricity)

Ain't a-gonna need this house no longer (I wish….)
Ain't a-gonna need this house no more
Ain't got time to fix the shingles (Still under warranty)
Ain't a-got time to fix the floor (Never sell it if I don’t.)
Ain't got time to oil the hinges (Ballistol.  Wife loves the fragrance)
Nor to mend no windowpane (Arcey breaks down ‘n cries. Got a big one ta replace)
Ain't a-gonna need this house no longer
She's a-gettin' ready to meet the saints

This ole house is gettin' shaky (Just the screens.)
This ole house is gettin' BEEN old
This ole house lets in the rain (See shinges)
This ole house lets in the cold
On my knees I'm gettin' chilly (New furnace liked ta ran me out the back bath this mornin’)
But I feel no fear nor pain (Hell, everythin’ hurts)
'Cause I see an angel peekin'
Through the broken windowpane (WHERE!?!?!?!?!?!?!?)

This ole house is afraid of thunder
This ole house is afraid of storms (Naw.  Too dumb)
This ole house just groans and trembles
When the night wind flings out its arms (Naw)
This ole house is gettin' feeble
This old house is needin' paint (Yeah. Damn it)
Just like me it's tuckered out ('Me' is burnt out)

Spent so much on this thing the past month it’s gonna be a longgggggggggg time ‘fore I buy another gun.  Need ta replace the bay window in the breakfast nook next.  That’s gonna be REAL cheap.  Phooey.

Teenage ... had a race for the nighttime ...

Spent my cash on every high I could find ...

White punks on ......

Wasn't MY theme song, but I liked it - saw them - still like them

And the song they wrote that was the 1972 "Country Music's Most Requested Song"

I'm proud - to be an American ...

I'm proud ... had a good time bein' one ...

And so on.

Any guesses?  They're obscure - MUCH more so than John Prine  ;)  Who isn't REALLY obscure.  ;D

I was a highwayman, along the coach roads I did ride,
With sword and pistol by my side.
Many a young maid lost her baubles to my trade.
Many a soldier shed his lifeblood on my blade.
The bastards hung me in the spring of twenty-five:
But I am still alive.

I was a sailor, I was born upon the tide.
And with the sea I did abide.
I sailed a schooner round the Horn to Mexico.
I went aloft and furled the mainsail in a blow.
And when the yards broke off, they said that I got killed:
But I am living still.

I was a dam builder across the river deep and wide;
Where steel and water did collide.
A place called Boulder on the wild Colorado,
I slipped and fell into the wet concrete below.
They buried me in that great tomb that knows no sound:
But I am still around.
I'll always be around,.
And around and around and around and around.

I fly a starship across the Universe divide.
And when I reach the other side,
I'll find a place to rest my spirit if I can.
Perhaps I may become a highwayman again.
Or I may simply be a single drop of rain;
But I will remain.
And I'll be back again,

And again and again and again and again

Always liked that one.

Heard this one a while back by the guy who wrote it, George Strait, George Jones and Allan Jackson have all recorded it, but don't seem to make a hit out of it, wonder why? ::)

Nobody saw them running
From 16th Avenue
They never found the fingerprints
Or the weapon that was used
But someone killed country music
Cut out its heart and soul
They got away with murder
Down on music row

The almight dollar
And the lust for worldwide fame
Slowly killed tradition
And for that, someone shouldhang ("Ahh, you tell 'em Alan")
They all say "Not Guilty!"
But the evidence will show
That murder was committed
Down on music row

For the steel guitars no longer cry
And the fiddles barely play
But drums and rock 'n' roll guitars
Are mixed up in your face
Ol' Hank wouldn't have a chance
On today's radio
Since they committed murder
Down on music row

They thought no one would miss it
Once it was dead and gone
They said no one would buy them ol'
Drinkin' and cheatin' songs ("Oh, but I still buy 'em")
Well there ain't no justice in it
And the hard facts are cold
Murder's been committed
Down on music row

For the steel guitars no longer cry
And you can't hear fiddles play
With drums and rock 'n' roll guitars
Mixed right up in your face
Why the Hag wouldn't have a chance
On today's radio
Since they committed murder
Down on music row

Why they even tell the Possum
To pack up and go back home
There's been an awful murder
Down on music row

here's one ain't cowboy related in any sorta way, but I heard it on the oldies station today,  yanked me right back to the Fall of 1967,  Marlyin Smith and finding out how much fun them brown eyed girls were.  ;D

Print: Van Morrison - Brown Eyed Girl Lyrics print version

Hey where did we go,
Days when the rains came
Down in the hollow,
Playin' a new game,
Laughing and a running hey, hey
Skipping and a jumping
In the misty morning fog with
Our hearts a thumpin' and you
My brown eyed girl,
You my brown eyed girl.

Whatever happened
To Tuesday and so slow
Going down the old mine
With a transistor radio
Standing in the sunlight laughing,
Hiding behind a rainbow's wall,
Slipping and sliding
All along the water fall, with you
My brown eyed girl,
You my brown eyed girl.

Do you remember when we used to sing,
Sha la la la la la la la la la la te da

So hard to find my way,
Now that I'm all on my own.
I saw you just the other day,
My how you have grown,
Cast my memory back there, Lord
Sometime I'm overcome thinking 'bout
Making love in the green grass
Behind the stadium with you
My brown eyed girl
You my brown eyed girl
We done it for Dixie,  nothing else

"I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved."

  A                                             D
Well now early one day I was on my way to my favorite fishin’ hole
               E
I was thinking I could sure use another bottle of booze
                             A
My baits a’ runnin a little low

Man a box of 12 gauge would be all the rage
         D
I’m all liquored up and I’m feelin’ good
E
Well just down the road there was a place called Bubba’s
                  A
Man he’s got the goods…

(chorus)
A
And the sign said beer, bait, and ammo yeah
           D
They got everything in between
               E
Yeah they got anything any old beer drinkin
                               A
Hell raisin, bonified redneck needs

They got your fishin hooks, they got your dirty books
               D
They got your rebel flag on the wall
          E
Sign said beer, bait, and ammo yeah
                       A
You ask me they got it all

A
Well now when I walked in I cain’t even begin
    D
To describe just what I smelled
                E
Lord was it the catfish bait or something Bubba had ate
              A
Was it those pickled eggs on the shelf

Yeah with a toothless grin he said boy step right on in
D                                   E
Make yourself right at home, I said no, no, no thank you man
                                           A
With a 12 pack of cans and I’ll be good to go

And the sign said…

(repeat chorus)

solo

(repeat chorus)

Every time I hear that song I think of two slices of Devil's Food cake with cream filling inbetween in a plastic wrapper, I think I had the muchies first time I heard it.

Funny how ya remember stuff by music.  Ordered my first new car. ’71 Mercury.  New car manager hauled ass with my, ‘n several other folks’, deposits without orderin’ the cars.  Best I know they n’er did find ‘im. It was a mess ta get straight. Took all the paperwork with ‘im.

When it finally did come in I fired it up ‘n put the radio where I wanted it. First song was ‘It Don’t Come Easy’.  Thought ta myself, ‘ain’t that the damned truth!’

Since LR's submission mentioned Fishing Holes, here is one that you all ought to remember.  The lyrics to the Andy Griffith Show theme song:

Well, now, take down your fishin' pole and meet me at The Fishin' Hole,
We may not get a bite all day, but don't you rush away.

What a great place to rest your bones and mighty fine for skippin' stones,
You'll feel fresh as a lemonade, a-settin' in the shade.

Whether it's hot, whether it's cool, oh what a spot for whistlin' like a fool.

What a fine day to take a stroll and wander by The Fishin' Hole,
I can't think of a better way to pass the time o' day.

We'll have no need to call the roll when we get to The Fishin' Hole,
There'll be you, me, and Old Dog Trey, to doodle time away.

If we don't hook a perch or bass, we'll cool our toes in dewy grass,
Or else pull up a weed to chaw, and maybe set and jaw.

Hangin' around, takin' our ease, watchin' that hound a-scratchin' at his fleas.

Come on, take down your fishin' pole and meet me at The Fishin' Hole,
I can't think of a better way to pass the time o' day.
