Lieutenant Frederick H. Beecher Henry Rifle

The most prominent junior officer to carry a Henry was probably Lieutenant Frederick H. Beecher of the 3rd Infantry, a unit whose rank and file carried Spencer rifles. Beecher was photographed with some brother officers of the 7th Cavalry at Fort Wallace, Kan., in the spring of 1867, proudly holding his Henry. A year later he led a company of picked volunteers(Forsyth Scouts) against the Cheyenne in eastern Colorado. Most of the men carried Spencers, but there were a sprinkling of Henrys, and Beecher's repeater was probably in his hands when he was mortally wounded on an Arickaree River island that now bears his name in commemoration of the epic fight his command waged there.

My question.Did anyone of you have a copy of this photo?

Yes, it's in the biography of George Forsythe. Excellent photo.

Thanks, Fox.
I just order it from Amazon for $3.29.

Why they never made a movie about that story?Perhaps with Tom Selleck and Sam Elliot!

I think you're thinking about the William Holden 1953 movie "Escape from Fort Bravo" which was only vaguely similar.

I've seen Escape from fort Bravo recently on the Idiot Box.  I'm quite sure that is not the one I recall, 'tho i admit there are some similarities, especially in the tactics used in both Attack & Defence.
