Thanks for the coffee this morning- will have some corned beef hash eggs and toast in a little bit.

Weather hot and dry today. Our main vehicle has been sitting needing work for awhile. We took it in Friday. It will be finished this afternoon.

Major2- there is a bazar (to me) when Costner as Lt Dunbar reports to Commander at Ft Hayes. The commander’s dialogue is about crazy and his writing the order and stamping it he acted like a 3 year old.  He then sits there and pees in his britches. And tells the lieutenant he did so, and there was nothing he could do about it. Dunbar leaves with orders they show the commander with revolver to his head. Then cut back to Costner and you hear the revolvers report.  It is a bizarre scene and I never quite understood what it’s significance was.

Roo, with any Costner movie it might have been to add length to the movie, He wasn't know for his brevity.

Thanks for the coffee M2. I'll pass on the toast.

Supposed to be 105 today in my part of the desert. I'm kind of hoping the dry heat will kill off the stupid virus and we can stop talking about it. At least here. (smile)

always puzzling to me, I felt it might be explained in the novel  ???

I thought you were alluding to that in some way .....  :-\

That was explained once in True West as him having bladder cancer, what it had to do with the film who knows, but makes sense.  Need to read the book sometime, hear the book is good, watched the movie once, it sucks, Costner and several other things make it suck.

Getting more lettuce than we can use. Tomatoes not even close, did our own starts this year, and as usual, probably should have started them a couple of weeks sooner. Still have to go to the local fruit and veg market and buy the Mennonite tomatoes. Kind of pricey, but taste more like a tomato than anything from the grocery store.

Can't help with plans, Major. Mine is a simple built in bench of two 2X10s across one side of my shed, with 2X4 cross bars and doubled 2X4s for two legs in the center part.

Major Sterner,
lots of people use one of those folding Craftsman (or similar) woodworking benches. Very sturdy and can clamp press onto it.

Today was entertaining.  I washed a C-130.  Or it washed me. One or the other.  And I helped jack a plane up to change the tires.

Title: Re: First of June, coffees on
Post by: Major E A Sterner on June 02, 2020, 11:28:52 PM
RCJ, I need to have it large enough to mount a RCBS Rockchucker, A Hornady Pro-Jector, a Dillon 650 , and 2 MEC sizemasters, a 20 & 12 gauge. Plus my casting sizing equipment and gun smithing tools. Right now I have some of my gear in a shed that is 28 years old and starting to fall apart and some in my Basement/Garage.

Took a pair of heavy duty steel folding legs and mounted a top made up with 3 sheets (thick) of 2X4' Birch ply and is screwed to the wall.
It holds two presses ( a Lyman Turret and a Lyman Spartan )... It leaves me a goodly amount of work space.
I have Lee Turret on a similar but smaller table on the reverse wall.

I hope it gives the good Major some ideas . my area is compact but still quite workable.
The antique Spartan press is used just to flair 30 Cal. brass.
The Lyman Turret is set up for 30/40 Krag & 8MM Lebel

I use the quick change Die holders on the Lee Turret for all else I load.

Still do all my loading on a Lyman Spartan. First and only press, bought it somewhere around '75-75. Mail order from Gander Mountain. Before that it was just .38, .357 with a Lyman nutcracker, and a set of Lee dippers.

When we moved to Florida, I had to downsize my reloading area. I bought a Tool stand from Harbor Freight for around $33.00. I use the LEE Bench Plate system to switch between my LEE Classic Turret press and my MEC Shotgun Shell press. The tool stand is easy to move around and surprisingly, it's very sturdy. I keep it in my storage unit and move it inside when I reload.

The Spartan was my first press too.... a gift from a now passed friend.

It was missing a pivot pin , calling Lyman it seems they no longer supported the the units parts list.
All they had in stock was the handle. I fabricated the missing pin from drill stock.
I bought the Lyman Turret II  after trying one out, the idea being not have to change dies for each step.

I'm not into production , so a $600 Dillon was not my cuppa....

The LEE was no a brainer @ about $100 NIB ,  after Dakota Ike and John Saffen  recommended it..

Thanks for the suggestions, I found one that would work with a few modifications, but when I priced out the material it turns out I can buy a Harbor Freight workbench for a lot less and modify the top to mount the presses to it. Never thought that would be the case.

That RCBS jr I bought used in 1980 broke the handle about 2000 they didn't have a handle for a first generation press so they sent me all the improved linkage and ram free since the casting is the same.

The best one was in the late 90's, ordered a Lee die set to size bullets on a regular press, got home from the gun store and the ram was missing in the package.  Was about 4 on Friday, but called them, the lady said everyone in the warehouse was gone.  I said I could call back Monday, she said no, wait, Dick just hung up his phone, he can help and put me through.   He laughed took my name and address and said they still trusted him with a key and he'd drop it off at the post office on the way home.   It got there Monday.

I bought the Redding BR-3 Match Grade about 1988.  They are about $200 today but I would save or sell my kids if I needed another one, used other measures, this is the one, so dead on you can't tell on a scale provided the operator is consistent.   It will throw small charges of Unique that tight or even the old long stick powders like the old type 4831.

I remember some years ago, some were using aircraft tires for tractor front tires, fewer flats when mowing and brush hogging. Haven't heard much about that for a while, though. I expect C-130 tires are a bit big for that, though.

Morning all.

Weather is sunny here today, but supposed to rain later on.

The rumor on the talking head shows is that one of the riot groups was threatening to show up here and light stuff on fire. Here have been protests, but they have remained peaceful.  Local citizen policy is “you loot, we shoot.” Official police policy is that they’re going to “ react as appropriate.”   The mayor has made it clear that people from out of town that come and make trouble will be given a long stay at the county jail.  I have two full gas tanks, and bought another box of 38 JSPs, just in case.

Roo, that recycling company I believe makes AstroTurf for local schools out of tires. If I remember correctly they also supplied the base material for a “recycled thirsty concrete” project at UM.

Sourdough Czech rye, starter is coming around, first bread since surgery, actually first bread since late September.  Rita tried a new place for delivery tonight, some Irish pub downtown, I highly recomend the Shepards Pie, yes the real thing, not a cottage pie, but a real Shepard's Pie, don't tell Roo I ate sheep for supper, it was good. ;D ;D ::)

Thinking tuna samwhich later, tuna on rye.

More rain  95% is on tap ( no pun intended ) for  Sunday ...imagine that , Humidity is 100% even when rain is not falling.
Like wearing a wet blanket , we had tornado warnings Sat. afternoon.

4 straight days now and Monday ( guessers are saying 25% ) may not change all that much.

It did dampen and cause the planned protest in town to cancel...  goody

In other news , My friendly LGS  just about sold out Friday ....every new 9mm & 380  he had was gone.
Bunch of folks in there anyway, among standard array of AK's etc, was a $ 2500 consigned Garand.
The CCW class was sold out too.
All I saw in the glass case was a pimp Smith & Wesson Model 39  chrome & pearl-ette consigned piece.

Also a  S&W J-Frame 22 LR also consigned , but that one was being handled by a potential buyer.
I left before any cash exchanged , so its fate is not known.

  update :
A tornado actually did touched down near downtown Orlando, Saturday evening in  a system related to the tropical storm . The twister just missed a group of protesters at Lake Eola at around 7:30 p.m. There appeared to be no injuries, but tree limbs were knocked down, and there were reports of power outages.

I'm well south of that mess by about 40 or so miles....but

A planned protest in our towns memorial park was call off earlier in the day, because of rain.  The small park , has a band shell .
,  2 WWII Field pieces , a Deuce and half truck and Cobra Helo....
There is also a pair of Union & a Confederate Memorial monuments ....it was rumored all of these were to be vandalized...
The Local GAR  and the Kissimmee SCV camp members had planned to arrive to protect these.

Just might have gotten ugly   ::)

Prayer to those lost on D Day and for their families.

Thanks for the coffee.

Looks like the toy store there is doing what they are all doing everywhere. Kentucky Gun Club has a 15 box of ammo limit, per order.  I stay away from such places especially on weekends.

Delmonico put a buck in the cussing jar.... for the Shepard’s pie remark.

Expecting some rain later today from the tropical storm. Maybe not as much as other places.

Slim the part I hated about roofing was hauling the shingles up to the roof.

Coffee is hot- left over pepperoni pizza for now. If I was a drinking man i’d Still have coffee first.

Our blueberries are ripening now. Best  crop of them we have had.  I planted them 5 years ago. Only have had a few each season.  So blueberry cobbler today and some for the freezer.
Our fig planted same time. Was awesome last year, did not winter well - I tried rooting cuttings this spring they did not take. Not sure if we will have any fruit from it.

Planted 5 apple trees same year never a blossom. Going to cut them down in fall

Pear tree is loaded- a much older tree.

Rain has helped them all this year.

I got home about 2, should have been a little after one but my cousin fell asleep after lunch and I had to call him, brain dead old phart. ;)

Just check glucose, still a little high but not as bad as last night, cold hunk of cow will have to do for snack cause it's low carb.  ;D

Going to do the BP, wish me luck, they said the prednisone I'm on yet may be messing with things.

Pissin' in the wind, bettin' on a losing friend
Makin' the same mistakes, we swore we'd never make again
And we're pissin' in the wind, but it's blowing on all our friends
We're gonna sit and grin and tell our grandchildren
About the time I called this Guy it was four in the morning
Teach me the words to the song I was humming

Decided someone may take this wrong, I'm not depressed, just a bit sleep deprived and damn glad to be alive.

Fed my new sourdough up Friday before I tried to go to bed, thinking I'll start a long ferment whole wheat., should be done by supper tomorrow.   It don't remove all the carbs but lowers them.

The bruising is because of the meds.  I can give myself one just by a simple touch.  Off some of the meds it seems a little better.  I rubbed my eye at one time and it looked like someone punched me.

Coffee is cooking  but may go back to bed.

Here's an interesting article of a relic French pinfire revolver proposed as the suicide gun used by the artist Vincent Van Gogh that sold recently at auction.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-48694433

Awful lot of money wagered on something with absolutely no provenance. Makes a good story, though.

Chicken is something you eat when you can't get real meat.  Stuff is fowel.

Over 99% of the chicken I eat is in camp or home.  If I go out to eat it's not chicken.

Oh, Rita got home yesterday, she went off to find out how to do IV antibiotics for 14 days and get her drugs.   I went and picked her up since yesterday was "can drive day"  Rita will drive me tomorrow to Dr appointments, I will talk to Drs about it tomorrow, Rita and Lexie put me back on no drive status.  I went to the wrong hospital, wasn't my fault, Rita was in a different hospital than normal and I told the Otto Pilot to go to the hospital.  ::)

OK, I am having some short term memory loss, Lexie had a bit harsher term for it, likely the meds, been meaning to get on the Net or read the thick papers they sent with them, but forgot to. ::)  Head is much clearer today but I will obey till sure. :P

KFC was decent when the Colonel owned it, but he did a lot of his own inspections and would cancel your franchise if he walked in and things were not to snuff.  And he drove around the country in a big Cadillac they say and came in with out warning.

one local KFC went belly up last year. Don't know how they lasted as long as they did, service was horrible. Longest wait times of any eating place I've ever been in. If we want fried chicken, we just get it from the local Town &Country store deli. There's a smaller chain, Lee's Chicken, a spin off from KFC, pretty good. They always cater our club's annual match.

Afternoon all.

Today has been sunny/rainy/thundery/haily/windy all day. I’m off of work for a three day weekend, so I slept in, and went for a walk by the Missouri River.

Among the more useful things I’ve done today is apply for some jobs in Missoula, and my soon-to-be fiancé and I got ourselves a place to live our there.  It’s in a townhouse complex owned by the university, but not on campus.  So that’s one thing out of the way.

Local Dairy Queen can go %$#@#%%%%% themselves.  Really needed to go to the store, decided we were to tired, wand cheap and easy we all 3 can agree on.  OK I'll do Dairy Queen burgers, can have a Blizzard also, with things so messed up checked blood sugar, nope on my Blizzard, my bad luck.  No fish for some reason, others want DQ so I do Cheese Burger, got here, the %%$#@$$%%^s put mayo, tomato and lettuce on it despite being told not to, the unholy Trinity of burgers, I want mustard, pickle onion, ketchup and cheese, nothing more, nothing less.

Gave it to Lexie, Rita called, got comped, said no way today was I reordering, they did the same thing last Sunday when Lexie and I did that because I didn't feel good.  And Mayo contains egg, what if someone with a egg allergy didn't look.

Went to the store and got some lunch meat, found some other stuff, good for a couple day, got burger for $2.99 pound, 80% but perfect for tomorrow nights idea.

I'd keep the Shillelagh close at hand, you never know when you may need to knock some sense into someone to help them on the straight and narrow.  Remember T, R.'s famous quote; "Talk softly, but carry a big stick!"

That brought back a blast from the past...

I'm guessing about 1956 or so I sent away for the 20 Mule team kit.... it arrived and was easy to assemble.
Though I never painted mine.
They show up on eBay, but today the kits are no longer made.

I used to love to watch the TV show "Death Valley Days" hosted by Ronald Reagan
Robert Taylor and Dale Robertson....with Stanley Andrews as the old Ranger.

very cool they built a new set .... I think an original set is still on display in Death Valley National Park

Morning all

Temperature is supposed to hit 85 today.  Then the weekend is supposed to drop down to the 60s and be stormy.

I’m almost done with active duty now.  I get done on Tuesday.  Then I’m back to regular guard status.

Talked to Slim tonight before dark, they are having fun,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, without me. ::) :'(   Was thinking about going up in the morning and going to the banquet but that is off the table, not sure I trust my self across town and not 200 miles one way.    :o

Oh, made a hard decision the other day, Little Brown Dog is a year old, has not had any real bird training and I at this point have no business out tromping around in the uplands with just me and me dog, my prefered method.  I am not going bird hunting anymore, still will likely deer hunt, but not this year, can always drive to where I sit with the pickup or 4 wheeler.   Plus there are always others around.

Smart move for sure.  Had a rough time just riding to Walgreens to pick up her prescriptions yesterday. Glad we didn’t stop at store or anywhere else.

Coffee is on- something cooler if you prefer.

Forecast  ::)

Looking like the trade show industry is dead for 2020 .... with all shows canceling and going dormant.
Venues are limiting attendance to 50 people , When shows hosts thousands.
There is no point to Showcase or stage an industrial.

At this point ,  not planning to return to work this year    :-\

My first experience with espresso was in Spain early in 1971.
The ship I was on never pulled into port, we always dropped anchare off shore, sometimes a mile or more off shore. This meant a long boat ride, usually in rough water and cold weather at that time of year.
All the bars/pubs had espresso machines. The natives liked it sweet! Very sweet. Too sweet for my liking, but I found a mix of a shot of brandy with the espresso (I can't remember the name of it).
The shot of brandy would light the boilers and the espresso would make you want to chase cars and catch them.
My best,
 Blair

Are you talking about Carajillo ?   The Cubans here love it....you are right about hell for sweet , makes my teeth hurt  :) just saying the word  ;D
Brandy even rum  or some other liqueur .... I do not partake in drams of any form , but I had tasted it.

I mentioned  refillable K cups to the " War Dept. "   "SHE" defined them  "NO"  ::)
So I guess , we'll continue with the status quo  :-\

 Major 2,
I really do not recall.
I only took one forging language in school, called "English". I had a hell of a time with that. Still do!
I aways thought they should be learning us "American".
