Major, if you make it to Kansas, I will find you a rifle and ammo.  It may be a trapdoor infantry rifle with open sights, but if nothing else the sound of the bullets going by have been known to scare buffalo to death.

Quote from: Major 2 on May 15, 2025, 11:35:13 AMI been following this vicariously.

Never had a heavy barrel "Buffalo" Sharps, but several Carbines.
My first was 1863 Garrett percussion, then an original 1859,
which I cast my own lead.
another original 63 and finally a Pedersoli 74 in 45/70.

Presently and sadly, I don't have any of them  :P
I have a Pedersoli '74 rifle, but I don't have a heavy.

This was taken 2 years ago last March, When we only had the one Buff. I'm not sure how the herd grew so quickly, especially when Drydock's first hit ensured this poor young buff would never reproduce.  ::)  :o

Mark on your calendars, the KVC shoot is October 10-12.   Main shooting is the 11th.  A nice relaxed shoot.  Round count is 30.  You need to knock the target over or hit it twice.  15 shots at each of two distances.    Good time.  Usually we have a chuck wagon.   Camping too.   More details will come to the NCOWs board.

Just to be clear, Trail Boss is a fast burning, bulky pistol powder. This powder is listed as #15 (fast to slow) (right behind Green Dot) in Lyman's top 152 powders listed by burn rate. There is nothing black powder equivalent about it, except how it is loaded for pressure.

Reloder 7 is listed as #67 and is the slowest (and bulkiest) of the powders that can really be used.

Correct pistol powders up to Blue Dot (#45) should be used for revolvers and rifles...while powders from 2400 (#46) through Reloder 7 (67) are better used in rifles (long barrels) to better replicate original velocities in rifles.
