Post by: Sage613 on October 19, 2021, 12:14:01 PM
Im sure this is an old story  Just bought my first Richards Conversion (1860 Army, ASM)
Im a newbie and need advice on the wedge...
watching videos-...but do I need to rotate the set screw?
and is the wedge best pulled out or punched out?
with gratitude!

Yes, rotate the retaining screw to the flat side aligns with the wedge slot.
If you can pull it, that works. Most have to punch it out with a brass bar or wood end of the handle on a screwdriver because of tight fit.

In that case the screw and wedge should be like a percussion gun.  If the wedge has a flat spring in the middle of it, that would verify this.  In that case, no need to loosen the screw as it is just there to keep the wedge from falling all the way out of the gun to the left - the little upturned edge of the spring on the right side of the wedge will catch on the head of the screw.

On my Cimarron police pocket conversion the screw head appears round but the threaded portion that screws into the frame is off center (eccentric) so you can rotate the screw and make room to remove the wedge.
