Excellent Indian Wars Uniform Reference
« on: September 21, 2014, 07:06:27 AM »
Gentlemen,
Most of you probably already know this, but if you're looking for excellent photographs of what the Indian fighting Army wore on campaign, you NEED to find a copy of "With Crook in the Black Hills" by Paul Hedren.  Wonderful photos taken of officers and men at the conclusion of Crook's "Mud March".  I'm always amazed at the mixture of stuff worn in the field during that period.

As an aside, I was fortunate enough to accompany Mr. Hedren and Jerome Greene on a little expedition looking for a local battle site (Battle of the Blowout).  Both seemed to be genuinely nice gentlemen and were pleased to sign books for me.  Neat experience!
