Title: Gemmer Sharps
Post by: Troublesome River on June 17, 2006, 12:31:25 PM
Howdy All,
Does anybody still sell the percussion Sharps rifle kits anymore? All Dixie gun works advertises is one in .50 Cal. and I'd rather have a .54. This is going to be for a future project in which I'm planning on making a replica of a Gemmer-Sharps rifle that has a Hawken type forend. Can anybody help?-TR

I have been searching for years for the same thing.  I have talked to the maker of that kit in Italy.  IAB has been known in the past for having soft metals in some of their parts.  I was assured that that is not the case now. I I think you can probably pick up various receiver parts here and there and you can get a barrel from Track of the Wolf.  All you have to have is someone that can mount the barrel to the receiver.  I am building a Gemmer Hawken using a Springfield trapdoor system.  Good luck in your endeavor.

I've been lucky enough to see the photo's of Ray's (Triggersmith) Springfield trapdoor Gemmer Hawken progress.
He is quite the craftsman, all inletted and drilled now.  It's going to be some kinda NEAT when the tiger striped maple stock is finished.
Ray is just as talented in his leather work.
