"SHE" made a mixed vegetable quiche.
Made with sautéed zucchini, corn, red bell pepper and onion, then baked with panko bread crumb crust.
While I'm a card-carrying carnivore I ate it, because I too was too lazy to fend for myself, besides it did smell quite good.
I was presently surprised; I liked it and went for seconds.

On another topic, well over a week ago I had added a KOKURA ARSENAL HOOKED QUILLON Arisaka type 30 bayonet to my modest collection.
I was top bidder on eBay, tracking shows it has circled around Texas USPS for the last 9 days.  ::)
It was mailed from Athens Tx about 72 miles from Dallas to COPPELL TX DISTRIBUTION CENTER.
then to Dallas TX DISTRIBUTION CENTER about 17 miles, where it seemed to languish.
It was supposed to be delivered last Monday the 28th, yesterday tracking stated "Moving Through Network...
Departed USPS Regional Facility DALLAS TX NETWORK DISTRIBUTION August 31, 2023, 6:38 am."
Now they say it will arrive Saturday the 2nd....  ???

I hope so, because fighting with eBay and or the seller would be a mess.

Well September 2023 started out beautifully for me. We're getting our carpets cleaned today and while I was moving furniture around, I tripped and fell. My own stupidity! Never wear flip-flops when moving furniture. Got some good size bumps on my head and leg. Sore but I should be okay. No pool today. If that's the worst thing that happens to me today, then I've had a good day. What happened to me pales in comparison to the devastation people north of me experienced.

On another note, my wife does most of the cooking. In retirement, it's become her hobby and she's good at it. I've learned how to cook a few things like salmon and cod in the oven. Last night I made Baby Back Ribs from a recipe I found on YouTube. They turned pretty good.

Looks and sounds good John, Ribs be one of my favorite food groups  :D
Like I said '' card carrying carnivore ''  :D

I just finished a few strokes in the pool, I was rearranging wall hanging military cutlery in the
512th U C M adding the Arisaka type 30 bayonet and got a tad over heated.

512th U C M is my new coined handle for the re-loading room.    :)

If your into ribs, you should try to make it to Reno some Labor Day weekend.  We're in the middle of our annual Best in the West Rib Cook Off.  started in 1989 with only a brief lapse due to COVID.
I've been going every year since I moved here in '91.  That's on our agenda for tomorrow.

Here is their website     nuggetribcookoff.com

Rib talk a pictures have already got my mouth watering.

Russ ... They attempted a Rib cookoff over in Melbourne years ago...
there were about 20 or so Rib/BBQ masters competing, it was two-day affair.

A sample (2 ribs basket) was two bucks, and you went from vendor to vendor.
Sonny's Chain was there and another name BBQ chain brand, I don't recall.
The rest were talented BBQ masters.
I had great time, but sadly it was a bust, the organizer failed to cover his expenses as attendance was low.
It was never repeated :(

Major 2, who are the 3 gents in the picture in the 512th U C M?

Removed the horrible dark finish from the grips of my Charter Arms .357 Mag. I applied the first of many coats of boiled linseed oil to it last night. Below is a review of the pistol.

Capt. Jeremiah Augustus ("Gus") Henderson CSA seated right, the other two are unknown.
Jeremiah Augustus ("Gus") Henderson was a businessman and captain of the Confederate army from Gainers Store, Alabama. (now Henderson, Ala), His sons include Charles Henderson , former governor of Alabama and the town is named in his memory.
This original cabinet card portrait was found in the Gov, Henderson home in Henderson in the finished attic when the home was demolished.

* the other three Gents (smaller Cab card) in the just added photo
are my great uncles Virgil, John (seated) and Pea Norton.
They are on my mother side, only John survived the war.

Good morning all, sorry I have been AWOL, I was preparing for and then attending a game convention in Denton Texas. Had a very good trip, it was a lot of fun. 88 here right now, supposed to get in the mid 90s today and clear. Texas was HOT, 107 2 of the days there. Thankfully, the convention center was very efficiently air conditioned so it was very nice. Got home last night and very glad to see my Missus again. Lifting my coffee cup to you all.

Thanks, for my 03 I load 193 grain Hi-tec coated, I ordered from Penn Bullets just before Bob Palermo passed away.
It took several months (7) but the Gent (John Mullady) that took over Penn got the order to me... I don't know if they have caught up or just filled the last outstanding orders and closed shop. I also got the Mauser C96 bullets I had ordered at the same time....I'm very pleased with both.
I push them with Trailboss, for reduced recoil.
I was given 86 one fired 30'06 Milspec brass from the mis 70's, I have de-primed. reamed the pocket and cleaned and was thinking perhaps a FMJ and load for my Garand.

The FMJ's, which are 150gr, were in mil brass. Most of them are SL 53. There are some from 43.
My GAF skirmish loads are Lee 160gr RN with 700X for about 1400fps.

No damage to the shed(that wasn't already there), It's supposed to be a redwood stain, but it's 33 years old and has faded some. I would re-stain it, but it need a new roof, shingles and floor. would be cheaper to replace it.

Retirement is, looking for something to do.
There are the honey doo's and assorted errands, but even they get completed eventually.

The other day, I found a box marked Misc. in the loft of the Garage.
This box was packed in 1988, when I moved from Miami. I don't recall having open it in these ensuing years  :-\. The Tape was still sealed.
Anyway, I figure it was time capsule of sorts. INSIDE were some treasures, at least to me....

Flash back... 1966 I was in High School, I had two elective classes, Wood Shop and I took Metal Shop.

The first year (10 grade) in Woods, there assigned projects you made and submitted for your grade.
Same deal in Metal Shop, Like a soldered sheet metal candle holder and a rather industrial looking sheet metal dustpan. I turned these out for my A grade. You had choice of projects for lathe work, and I chose to turn a brass cannon (it was in the time capsule box) in the attached photo.
I recall it had a wooden carriage, but that seems to have been lost. The wire is recent so to hang on a nail,
I believe a new Naval Mount will be fabricated.

Another class project was welding, then it was ARC and or Acetylene welding (we did not have MIG)
ARC welling was a simple 3 " bead and a Butt joint weld for your grade.
Passing these, I opted to fabricate an artsy stylized Model T. This also was in the time capsule box.
It was made from misc. nuts & #8 duplex nails, scraps of steel tubing, and extruded metal and some steel rings, and rattle canned flat black in 1966.

The model T is something like 57 years old and packed away probably 36 or so years ago.
I decided it needed to have a reemergence. (as will the Brass Cannon)

It was dusty, rusty and black, it cleaned up, and rattle canned OD green, I decided to upholster the two seats in scrap burlap and the Gattling gun hitch was attached (the gun & carriage is a cast metal model, the scale seemed to work)
So, a fantasy Model T Gattling Gun hauler, I like it and it was something to do  ;D
  Hope you'll do too.

To: Joe Weise & Jim Crisswell & Ted Lasinski, RIP gents (my SH instructors)

yep! it shoots (BP blanks of course)

Well that was interesting, we went out the door yesterday, was going to catch Chinese for lunch and go grocery shopping.  I got in the passenger's side and she was almost in the other and fell over backwards landing on her butt and then falling prone on her back.  She was cussing as I got out and went around so I knew she was alive, I thought about reminding her that she always tells me that cussing is what some dumb says when they can't think of better.   ::)

Anyway she claims she is OK which I was sure was a lie ::)  Anyway she couldn't get up but no, no 911.  She is sure she can get up if I go get a pillow for her knees. ::)  Well after more trying and cussing and trying to help her she decides my idea is better and I call 911, but follow orders and tell them the ambulance is not needed.  OK, they show up, it's decided I need to go get the walker, which involves more running up and down the stair.  Well they get her up and she gets up the stairs.  So she decides to sit on the chair and tells the fireman she will be fine.  Lie #2, after a rest and them leaving she can't get up.  Oh a second chair will help, lie #3. ::)  After trying to help her till I was breathing real heavy she decides calling them back is a good idea.  So a different station shows up for the truck, they get her on the gurney and have to take her down the stairs, (I would have been pissed, on the ground would have been easier.)

As always since she wasn't likely dieing I did what we do I stayed home to be out of the way, ER rooms can get crowded,  I got in and realized my flannel shirt was soaked, sat down and took an inventory.  O2 was actually good, BP was 175 over 95 and pulse was 150.  Glucose was decent.  Well I overdid it, changed into my Garfield Jammie pants and a T shirt, took 2 nitros and lay down to nap, it's about 3 by now.  Napped a couple hours and decided to call her, hear her phone ring, she had put it in the walker thing.   Well crap, I need at least a few things from the store I'll run it in to her.  As I was getting ready I realized if I parked and tried to walk in we'd have another casualty.  :-\  Decide to take another inventory and it's no better.  Being somewhat smarter than my wife I take action, I grab my haversack and put the phone charger in it, it already had a charged power bank, a set of headphones, an unread book and a spare pair of undies.  I went out and sat on the porch so we didn't have to deal with the dog and I called 911.  Anyway they were a bit concerned about the numbers, got more nitro in the ambulance, by the time we get to the ER I was having chest pains and got some more, some meds and a shot of the good stuff. After all kinds of stuff including fluid they decided it was close but not so they kept me over night and did some more tests.  Got home about 4 pm, 2 Drs told me if she falls again don't, leave her there and call 911.  She has a bad UTI and will be there a few more days likely.

Going to bed, not doing to much but my pulse is at 63.  BP right on the dot 123/62.   Even had coffee and moved some small boxes of books someone left Rita in off the porch and never went over 85.  Not going to try and pick up anyone who falls but much better.

It's done with animation and IMHO, it was very informative.

As an aside, The USS Arizona guns were recovered.
The massive guns and turrets were moved to locations on Oahu. The triple-gunned turret named “Battery Arizona” was placed at Kahe Point.  The other Arizona turret, named “Battery Pennsylvania,” at Mokapu Point.

The USS Nevada (BB-36) a veteran of Pearl Harbor on Dec 7th., received another trio Arizona’s guns,
Shipyard crews installed the Arizona’s guns from turret number two into Nevada’s turret number one position in the fall of 1944. The Nevada was back at sea to shell Iwo Jima and then Okinawa in 1945.

AC went on the fritz last evening, not sure the issue, but the digital thermostat is dark, circuit breakers are ok.
AC contractor is due between 9 and 11 am.
Meanwhile, it's not unbearable, house is well insulated and it was OK last night, but it will be getting a tad warm today and humidity is ramping up.

update..................

Welp! seem the safety switch on the drain tripped.  ::)  If the drain backs up, Clog or foreign object (like a chameleon gets stuck) it shuts down....  ::)
Never got too warm, as the weather has been pleasant the last few days.

Pouring rain here, weather guessers are claiming up to 5 inches before its over with flood warning to go along with it. Hope they're wrong on the flooding. Y'all keep dry.

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be   possible.

* WHERE...Portions of northwestern Connecticut, including the   following areas, Northern Litchfield and Southern Litchfield.   Portions of east central New York, including the following areas,   Eastern Dutchess, Eastern Ulster, Western Dutchess and Western   Ulster.

* WHEN...Through Saturday morning.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers,   creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.   Area creeks and streams are running high and could flood with more   heavy rain.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...   - Long duration of moderate to heavy rainfall from late tonight through early Saturday morning with total rainfall of 3 to 5 inches forecast. Greatest amounts are expected to be across  southern portions of Ulster, Dutchess and Litchfield Counties.
