Del, I laughed for a good five minutes at that first picture.   ::)

I'm off to the city today for the Nor Cal Sprotsman's Expo 2017.  I'm not 100% sure what it is, but admission is free and I was planning on being in the city anyway.  Who knows, maybe I'll find something cool.

I was wondering if y'all could help me. I have a trailer that was made out of a Ford short flareside. I took the bed off it, because it is rotting out, to replace it with a wooden bed. After I took it off, I noticed the leaf springs are broken on one side. I am trying to find replacement springs but I need to know what year range to ask for. By looking at pictures, it seems it is an early 70's or before. Please look at the picture and tell me what year range you think it is.

Thanks,

Slim

Good one! Unfortunately, outside a forum like this one, 90% or more won't get it.

Slim, Del's right, they used basically the same bed for years and years. Measure the length and width, and go by that.

I'm assuming you are referring to the length and width of the leaf spring which is 2.5" x 55". Yes?

They probably also have different numbers of leaves. Best way might be to get both, if you can't find an exact match.

If it used coil springs, I could recommend the striker springs from Lebel/Berthier rifles.

Today was a duplicate of yesterday, but in black and white instead of full color.  High of 60 both days but had a high broken overcast for a shades of grey today to offset the sever clear color of yesterday.

Spent yesterday empting my four drawer tool cabinet, reorganizing everything, then putting it all back in the drawers.  Can actually find things now.  Today the toilet needed repair, and I was thinking I wouldn’t have any problem find the tools I would need, totally forgetting that the only tools needed to replace a ballcock in a newer toilet are a thumb and forefinger.  Guess I’ll have to wait of a different project to totally appreciate all my work on Saturday.

Rained early, but sunshine after church. Mowed some grass, worked on fence, and sawed down a big ugly bunch of thorn trees. Thorns caused a few leaks in me, but didn't loose enough blood toned a transfusion or anything.

Sunny and 70 is the forecast here.  Same thing yesterday, and that's what we got.

In other news, I'm pretty well stuck at home for the next couple of weeks.  The dog went into heat again yesterday, and we already have 'callers' in the yard.  And I don't know 'bout you, but i don't want to be out there when the 80lb lab and 65lb boxer/pit are both in the yard in that mood.  :o

I got the fire up and coffee for the night watch.

Today had some odd weather.  When I got up at 8, it was 28 degrees and everything was frozen.  Then at Search and Rescue, it dropped evil white stuff on us while we were tracking.  It stopped around 10:30, and then was 60 degrees and sunny by noon.   ???

At SAR, we got to play with new toys.  A $65,000 truck pulling a $12,000 ATV with a 78hp 850cc engine.  ::)  I also got some "surplus" (read '12 years past when it was supposed to have been cycled out of inventory') ammo.  100 rounds of 115 grain FMJ 9mm.  Not a bad day.

Tomorrow, my sister leaves for a school trip to Yosemite NP for a week.  I did that three years ago, so I've been "packing consultant."   "What should be in my trail bag?"  "Should I bring an extra water bottle?"  "how many pairs of socks should I bring."  etc.   Mostly what I'm hearing is "can I borrow more of your expensive stuff to take with me on a trip with a bunch of sketchy highschool girls?" :-\

"Over the years, I've learned to never loan anything that I'm not willing to give."

that right there is good advise....

Yesterday was " Ladies Day at the range "  once a year, a hosted & sponsored event, to introduce Women to the multiple disciplines of shooting....
IDPA, Precision Pistol, Appleseed, long-range, Steel Challenge, Muzzle Loading , silhouette & Cowboy Action

152 Ladies of the 385 attending shot Cowboy, all left with BIG smiles and have had fun.

Glock donated two Pistols & Legacy Sports offered an Over-Under 12 Gauge as Gate prizes....

I give my time (10 Hours) and my experience.... Club gives the Ammo, in my case 1500 rounds 38 Special and 800 12 Gauge Rounds.
Guns are CAS shooters personal .... ( SASS & NCOWS shooters volunteer to man the CAS Bay. )

* in regards to the above Quote ...I don't loan my guns ( A. I don't shoot 38's  &  B. for personal & perceived legal issues )
I just don't do it....

Went to the indoor range today with a friend. While he was on the firing line I made the mistake of looking up at the ceiling. The number of bullet holes directly above where the shooter stands was a bit disconcerting. Trigger discipline? Is that where you smack the trigger extra hard when you're mad at it?

Morning all.

Sorry to hear about TLD.  I was wondering where he was.  I guess now we know.  :-\

I'm off to a three day work week today.  Monday and Friday off.  Still have to fit the same number of hours into it, though.  Evening work, here I come.

This cold has me.  Yesterday I had a fever of around 103, though that broke around 3:30AM.  Now I'm just stuck with sniffling, coughing and stuffy sinuses.  Yesterday was bad.  I couldn't even open a jar of jelly.  :-[

All the Glock jokes aside. They were good ones too.  You won't go wrong with a model 17 for personal protection.  I have shoot about 500 rounds between cleanings on mine.  Shoots everything i stick in the magazine including reloads. I shoota 1911 too but the glock and two magizines is a box of ammo. .

truth is , I probably would never buy one....  But,  and here is the BIG BUT ....

I never said, " you could not give me one "  I did not actually enter a drawing per se.

I was automatically entered when I volunteered for Ladies Day at the range.

I'm a steel & wood composition fan by choice .... aside from (you'll forgive me) one deviation,  the M4 I bought cause there are those that would say  you can't !  >:(
I desire 0, none, zilch alloy & polymer guns....

buy one  ???   gimme one ? whole different subject ,  My momma raised no fool ....no gift horse is oral examined either..... :D

Yeah, but like Priuses, they are so much fun to make fun of because half the people who own them are very thin skinned.

Priuses is one of several things I probably said " you couldn't give me one to own "

A Glock for many is all that a gun should be...LEO's swear by them.
Not sure I'll keep it, part of me say's it's cool to have one, another part say's pay it forward toward something I'd rather have.

problem is there's way more " something's I'd rather have "   :-\

Evening all.

Major, I'd go with a 43 (I think that's the 9mm version?).  Of all the Glock models, it's the only one I considered carrying over my Beretta when I worked at the gun shop and had my choice of carry guns.  Less clunky, and it has a grip very similar to the Colt Mustangs.  Resale value on the 42/43s is higher than on the other models, too (here in Ca, where the only ones available are used, they'll bring in $900 + easy. :o   Rest of the world, they seem to run 10-15% higher used value )

Had an interesting day today.

To start with, my alarm didn't go off, so I got a call from my boss at 6:30 asking if I was coming in.  I was supposed to be in at 6.  Then, I get home and immediately have to cut and load into my truck almost a cord of wood.  Not just any wood, but green, twisty, springy apple wood.    Then my brother and I drove to the city in 30mph cross wind while 2"of rain came down.

We unloaded the wood and ran some errands, then came back home.

Thanks for the impute TK.....the 43 is not my cup, great Conceal carry gun and highly desirable.
However, CC is not my 1st. criteria , the 43 is also too small in my hand to shoot in 9mm.
AND the big clincher....It's not on Glock's  Give-a-way list  :-X it's not one I can choose....
Gen 3's (4's (minor up-grade price ) .380 , 9mm , 40 Cal , 45ACP and 45GAP , I can get MOS (up-grade price) or the Comp. Models.

9mm is my choice going in....

Having now, digested and shot ( a M 19 & M17 ) Oakridge Gun Store & indoor range will let you try their different models .
Just buy some 9mm Ammo from them and some range time, and they have loaners in the Models you are interested in buying.

The M17 Gen. 4  was my best shooter, I went in leaning toward the Commander sized M19 in Gen. 4 .
But, it tended to constrict my fat hand..... Coming out
The M17 felt the best, shot for me the best group ( better grip ),  control and return to POA.

I'll pass on the MOS $207.00 upgrade ....and the $142.00 upgrade G34 Comp. model.

A Gen. 3 is no upgrade cost,  but I like the Gen.4 better & it also includes a 3rd Mag. in the Box  (Gen. 3 has 2 Mags. )
and the price of a new Mag is about $25-28 bucks retail.

 So mine will be a M17 Gen. 4 ,  my Gen. 4 upgrade is  $35+tax @2.45 = $37.45 out of pocket

Roo, since you brought it up.... the (my) Glock choice was not made on a carry plan...
This my first and more than likely only one....
For CC I'm carrying a Nickel Mod. 36 Smith in a pocket holster, woods walking I belt holster a 1911.
IWB has never been viewed comfortable in my opinion, having tried to a few times.

I preferred  a Shooter as opposed to compact carry so the Glock 26 did not appeal ( I handled one )

So my decision was, 9mm going in , full size .... that was either the 17 or the 19 .... with the 19 being my front runner...
After shooting,  a 3rd Gen 19 , 4th Gen. 19 & a 4th. Gen. 17.
I like both Gen 4's , but at the EOD I had one choice ...the 17 felt & shot the best in my hands.

Well, I know this the "morning coffee chat line"  so, I'll put on a pot,  toast some Eggo Waffles, and shud-up  about Plastic Guns.

Coffee's is up.....enjoy & ponder this ...

Below is general profile of armed robbery, it's sorta vague and somewhat a  "Duh" listing  ( Female/Male 25-75 that's just about everybody outside of a nursing home  ::) ) from  the National Criminal Justice Reference Service.

type of victim—individual (person) Female or Male
Victim age - 25-75
number of offenders—single, pair, or
 group  more than 1 offender.
time of day—night (6 pm–5:59 am) darkness
offenders age—25 years and younger

relationship victim/offender—unknown
motivation—cash focused
weapon—knife, firearm, bar/bat/blunt, opportunistic, syringe, mixed weapons, other...
weapon used—harm, threaten.....

I offer it, only to say at my (our) age , I'm no longer the almighty, invincible, agile young buck I once "thought" I was  ::)

I carry, cause
A. I can
B. I might be considered an easy mark (see above)

I carry this , at threat distance I'm proficient with it, simple, reliable. It's bit heaver and only 5 rounds, but it is 5, 38 Special Critical Defense rounds.

Then there is this ( Travel (car) or Woods (walk) ...  here is were the Glock may get some holster time, remains to be seen.  :-\

Home fro work. Six days a week now, no sub available for my route. Don't know how long it'll be this time. Dear Wife left some deer stew on the stove, before she went to a Philippine gathering.

I'm pretty new to the Concealed Carry scene, my state has had it for years, but just in Jan went to "Constitutional Carry". My Ruger LCP is small and accurate enough , but...haven't figured out a comfortable carry yet. I'm generally a jeans with tucked in tee shirt guy. Have a "pocket holster" that really only works in a coat pocket. Too bulky for front jeans pocket, and even for the back pockets. For shorter periods of time, I have used an IWB tuckable holster, but that gets uncomfortable pretty quick, and with warmer weather coming..... Don't want to go with "loose in the pocket" , not with a DAO, no safety, and one in the chamber. Any holster I have tried basically doubles the thickness of the gun.

We took down trees today, one clump with 7 trunks :P Associate cut while I pulled on a rope to make sure they didn't hit the home or post lamp. Lots of brush to deal with, then loaded up the fire wood. It goes to the boss's place for his fire pit tomorrow ::)

Saw a tom this week,TK. We were coming out of the sewer plant road. It was in the side yard of one of the homes down by the office. It noticed us stopped to look, and flew across the road and ran down the far side of the office and into the woods behind the office. Yesterday, a resident was stopped on the entry street looking kind of weird. We stopped to ask if she was okay and she said she just missed a turkey on the main road outside the park.I've got a couple of main flight feathers here on our cherry sofa table ::) ;D ;)

I took the dog out for her first rifle hunting trip today.  Sort of.  I used an air rifle.  She's still pretty gun shy, so we're working on that.  I didn't have any luck, but she managed to catch and eat a fox squirrel.  I told her she was a good girl and kept on down the road.  ::)

We also turned up a couple of duck nests, complete with eggs.  We left those alone.  :)

I think someday is now- seems some people are in to building "M16A-1" style AR rifles. Some of the originals are over 50 years old now.

The weather folks said sunny today, but so far the sun isn't up yet and it's still raining.  ::)

I have one of those new fangled black guns.  I built it two years ago because there was a sale on parts.  :P I paid $600 to build it.  Just the other day I was pricing it out, just to see what it would cost to build the same gun today.  Price went up.  Now it would be worth over $800.   ::)  I'm thinking of selling it, if anyone is interested.  ;)

Off to the work place!

Coffee and other beverages are ready!

Getting ready for tomorrow’s getaway to Atlanta for the NRA Annual Meetings.  Been working on some health issues so I’d be okay to make the trip.  Looks like everything is under control.

Put down another coat of Milorganite fertilizer on the lawn yesterday and tested the sprinkler system.  Got a couple sprinkler heads to replace when I get back.

Looks like a good trip in the offing.

Nothing much on this side of the Sierras.  Alternating rain and sun, high around 60 and winds of 15mph +.

I made a stew for dinner.  Simple, but it's better than being hungry.  Just some beef and potatoes tossed in the wannabe dutch oven, aka the crock pot, for about 7 hours.  Came out okay, though a little bland.  Next time I'll add some more potatoes and maybe some carrots and celery if I have some. ::)  Maybe even some biscuits.

Coffee fail !

sitting here with weak mug of ....brown warm water, not sure what happened, to the Keurig,
I made it in the dark, so I may have done something  ??? different....

should be dark Dunkin Donut roast....  it's now 5 minutes later, and I dumped the first mug out, turned on the light
reloaded the Keurig and this time my coffee is fine...I know I put a new cartridge in and check to see if a decaf was slipped in on me  ::)
Oh well, another, earthly mystery for me to ponded.

Glass Skulls, Stonehenge and my cup of weak JO  April 30, 2017 ....

In other news, on the way to work yesterday, I'm tooling along , slowed and entered a left turn lane to the on ramp  of Florida's
Turnpike..... Engine shut off, just like that    ....Check Engine light  and Digital screen say's consult Owner's manual...

Yeah , right there with other's trying to turn, stacking up behind me ...read the owners manual  ::)  rrrightttt !
Try to restart, NADA Oh ! wait needs to be in PARK and the brake fully depressed ... OK
Yea ! it starts..... but have no go.....it will do maybe 15-20 MPH that's it....
So I have enough zip to get out of traffic and on a safe shoulder on the side of the street....

Understand , this is 2017 Edge , Call the Dealer ( before open hours Drat ) call back ....they say call Ford Roadside Assistance
They were great, pin point my location with GPS ...and I left it there, (Wife picked me up and ran me up to the Job 20 )
Ford Roadside Assistance, texts and then calls 4 times ...1. confirms I'm OK  and Helps is dispatched
then 2. Help will be there within 25 mins..... 3. Help is there, confirms Tag #  and finally 4. my car is at the dealer...

Dealer calls, they have it, and are looking into it....  Turns out to be the Throttle Body, seems my Edge is "drive by wire" ...
no mechanical linkage or cable .... electric sensor > foot pressure transmits to the loud peddle and then to the TB how much go I want ...via a Computer CPU. *

They replace the TB under warranty ( of course ) and it's ready by 1PM ....

Annoying as HELL, but can fault the service....

There is a built in program called "limp home mode " that will over ride automatically if the link fails,   and allow the car to drive ( slowly)
for safety sake ( kinda like a governor )

There is even a Code, that tells " that what it is.... so the Mechanic knows what to repair right away...

still annoying as HELL .... I quit working on them when Carburetor's when the way of the Dodo bird.

The joys of modern engineering, right Major? ::)  My brother and I are starting to work on our dad's old '77 Chevy.  Carbed 400ci  with forged internals and a racing cam.  It used to be in a Camaro, but now it's in a 1/2 ton.  :P  Kind of funny, though.  My brother went from a Minecraft nerd on Monday to a gear head on Wednesday.  I don't know what happened, but I'm not complaining.

I ended up not making a city trip yesterday.  Someone had to stay home to watch the escape artist labrador, and my dad couldn't because he had to travel for work.  So we stayed home and played fetch. ::)

Rain all day, varied from moderate showers to genuine toad strangler. No fun for delivering mail. Mail Blazer heater messed up, seems the "blend door actuator motor" has failed, so the only temp setting is-REAL COLD. So it's either drive with totally fogged over windows, or, use the defroster-which puts out only REAL COLD air.
