Getting to be that time of the year,, when loading 245gn. ( 403169 Lyman ) cast bullets in our 40/60 ( Chappie ) Win. are any of you cutting the cases back to get correct OAL ? According to my measurements w/ 403169 the OAL came out to 2.325 ,, using 403168 ( 210 gn. ) OAL is 2.235- ,, Will be using H-4198,, & TB & RL 7 . ???

Slamfire , no 245 gr. but I have shot and loaded 255 gr. Winchester bullet designed for the 40-82 wcf in my 40-60 wcf often . I use the same case length as  the 210 gr. original Winchester bullet . I use BP. so the 255 gr. bullet uses a lighter charge than the 210 gr. bullet . Both feed through the magazine with no problem . As a side note , I do prefer shooting the 255 gr. bullet over the 210 , cant say it's any better than the 210 at hunting ranges but it just seem's the better choice . ,,,DT

Yep that's it Slamfife ,just setting the bullet deeper . The two bullet's mentioned have very similar ogive dimension's and the roll crimp is just over the ogive and sidewall junction . Using Bp. I don't have to worry about the bullet sliding back or deeper into the casing ,so the roll crimp just ahead of the bullet shoulder work's . With you using Smokeless I would imagine you need a cannelure to crimp into . Likewise good to hear from you old friend , Oh and throw another log on, for the coffee,,,DT .
