November is nearly done and we forgot this one

; The legend lives on from the chippewa on down
Of the big lake they called gitche gumee
The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead
When the skies of november turn gloomy
With a load of iron ore twenty-six thousand tons more
Than the edmund fitzgerald weighed empty.
That good ship and true was a bone to be chewed
When the gales of november came early.

The ship was the pride of the american side
Coming back from some mill in wisconsin
As the big freighters go, it was bigger than most
With a crew and good captain well seasoned
Concluding some terms with a couple of steel firms
When they left fully loaded for cleveland
And later that night when the ships bell rang
Could it be the north wind theyd been feelin?
The wind in the wires made a tattle-tale sound
And a wave broke over the railing
And every man knew, as the captain did too,
Twas the witch of november come stealin.
The dawn came late and the breakfast had to wait
When the gales of november came slashin.
When afternoon came it was freezin rain
In the face of a hurricane west wind.

When suppertime came, the old cook came on deck sayin.
Fellas, its too rough to feed ya.
At seven p.m. a main hatchway caved in, he said
Fellas, its been good tknow ya
The captain wired in he had water comin in
And the good ship and crew was in peril.
And later that night when his lights went outta sight
Came the wreck of the edmund fitzgerald.

Does any one know where the love of God goes
When the waves turn the minutes to hours?
The searches all say theyd have made whitefish bay
If theyd put fifteen more miles behind her.
They might have split up or they might have capsized;
May have broke deep and took water.
And all that remains is the faces and the names
Of the wives and the sons and the daughters.

Lake huron rolls, superior sings
In the rooms of her ice-water mansion.
Old michigan steams like a young mans dreams;
The islands and bays are for sportsmen.
And farther below lake ontario
Takes in what lake erie can send her,
And the iron boats go as the mariners all know
With the gales of november remembered.

In a musty old hall in detroit they prayed,
In the maritime sailors cathedral.
The church bell chimed till it rang twenty-nine times
For each man on the edmund fitzgerald.
The legend lives on from the chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call gitche gumee.
Superior, they said, never gives up her dead
When the gales of november come early
Mathew 5.9

Sad from Ian Tyson.....

Ian Tyson, M.C. Horses Lyrics

Artist: Tyson Ian
Song: M.C. Horses
Album: Other Songs Buy Ian Tyson Sheet Music
Buy Ian Tyson CDs

We were having a drink at Stockman's,
Listenin' to the guitars ring.
Jesse said "You know, they sold the M.C. horses."
"I'll be damned.When was that?" I hadn't heard a thing.
"Back in August--100 head and more."

Yeah, the people they come from everywhere
Just to bid on 'em high and low
And thereby own a piece of the legend.
With the cow herd all dispersed the old cavvy she had to go.
Back in August--100 head and more.

Chorus:
So come on boy, run 'em in. We're gonna let this sale begin.
Last of the big remudas of the mightly M.C.
There's horses here for everyone.
Saddle 'em kids let's get her done.
By the time that Oregon sun goes down
This outfit's history--this outfit's history.

So the M.C. crew they rode 'em all
And the people all gathered 'round.
One ol' boy gave two grand for Banjo.
Banjo took his trailer apart
When he tired to load him up for town
Back in August-- 100 head and more.

If you ever have beer at the Aydell Store
Say hi to Chuck and Annie.
They'll show you them big ol' steer heads up there hangin'.
When you ask where have they gone?
Hell, they're gone like the M.C. cavvy
Back in August--100 head and more.

Repeat Chorus

We were having a drink at Stockman's
Way out on the sagebrush sea.
Jesse said "You know, they sold the M.C. horses."

Love to hear Ian sing.

Jaquima To Freno Lyrics (Ian Tyson)

Jaquima to freno
he's an old vaquero from another time hands as fine as the dealers of reno
he's been to the ocean he's been to the sea big long tapaderos hangin' both sides of an old visalia tree
Hey mr. vaquero put a handle on my pony for me teach me the mystery
Jaquima to freno
he's an old amansador still hangin' on just about gone like the california condor
he been down to the rodear ground
seen him on the movie screen ah but sometimes i think he's like america only see him in your dreams
did they sing all day did they dance all night
did they ride their spade bit ponies through the golden light
did they find true love was it all a bunch of lies
quien sabe, maybe it was paradise

Another from Ian

The Wonder Of It All Lyrics (Ian Tyson)

There's this place we're gonna ride
Up where the rimrock meets the night
We'll go hand in hand
Ridin' through the purple star light
And the coyote on the wind
Sends his lonely lover's call
We'll hold each other close
In the wonder of it all

The golden west has come and gone
Right before our very eyes
But they will never count the stars
And they will never fence the skies
All i know is i love you
And i won't let you fall
We're rollin' down the milky way

Into the wonder of it all

Bridge:

Life gets harder every day
And sometimes it seems the dream almost dies
But love will find a way
It will show us the way through the canyons of the stars
And the endless midnight sky
Come on girl we're gonna ride
Where the rimrock meets the night
We'll go hand in hand
Ridin' through the purple starlight
And the coyote on the wind
Sends his lonely lover's call
We'll hold each other close
In the wonder of it all
We'll hold each other close
In the wonder of it all

One more by Ian Tyson an' I'll quit

Albertas Child Lyrics (Ian Tyson)

Ian Tyson - Albertas Child Lyrics

Well, them ol' boys in Texas chew copenhagen
Wash it all down with that Coors
Ain't a bit bashful about speakin' their minds
They'll tell you what's theirs and what's yours
There's Waylon and there's Willie,
they own about half the state
And sing of her glories all in song
Talk about your lovers and your fighters
wild brahma bull riders
The whole thing takes a holt and goes on

Ride with me Jesus, help me pull this heavy load
Don't let her slip, don't let her slide
You answer all our questions further down this muddy road
Old cowboys cross the Great Divide

Well up north it's saddle broncs and it's hockey and honkytonks
Old Wilf Carter 78s
Dumb stuff like chores when it's twenty below
They're the things that a country boy hates
Too much damn wind and not enough whiskey
Drives them ol' northern boys flat wild
And he may go to Hell or even Vancouver
He'll always be Alberta's child

Got Ian on now, loaded the Christmas music so Terry will have it friday, but went to all Ian tonight.

In old St. Louis over in Missouri
The Mighty Mississippi it rolls and flows
A son was born to Mary Russell
And it starts the legend every cowboy knows

Young kid Russell he was born to wander
Ever westward he was bound to roam
Just a kid of sixteen in 1880
Up in wild Montana he found his home

God made Montana for the wild man
For the Peigon and Sioux and Crow
But He saved his greatest gift for Charlie
Said get her all down before she goes---Charlie
You gotta get her all down cause she's bound to go

God hung the stars over Judith Basin
God put the magic in young Charlie's hand
All was seen and all remembered
Every shining mountain every longhorn brand

He could paint the light on horsehide shining
Great passing herds of the buffalo
And a cowcamp cold on a rainy morning
And the twisting wrist of the Houlihan throw

God made Montana for the wild man
For the Peigon and Sioux and Crow
But He saved his greatest gift for Charlie
Said get her all down before she goes---Charlie
You gotta get her all down cause she's bound to go

When the Lord called Charlie to His home up yonder
He said Kid Russell I got a job for you
You're in charge of sunsets in old Montana
Cause I can't paint them quite as good as you
And when you're done---we'll go out and have a few
And Nancy Russell will make sure it's just two

God made Montana for the wild man
For the Peigon and Sioux and Crow
But He saved his greatest gift for Charlie
Said get her all down before she goes---Charlie
You gotta get her all down cause she's bound to go

Even if I didn't really like Ian's music, any one would would fault a man that wrote a song about Charlie Russell must be some kind of a heathan.

How To Sing the Blues: A Primer...

1. Most Blues begin, "Woke up this morning..."

2. "I got a good woman" is a bad way to begin the Blues, unless you stick something hard in the next line like,"I got a good woman, with the meanest face in town."

3. The Blues is simple.

After you get the first line right, repeat it.

Then find something that rhymes... sort of:  "Got a good woman with the meanest face in town. Yes, I got a good woman with the meanest face in town.  Got teeth like Margaret Thatcher, and she weigh 500 pound."

4. The Blues is not about choice.

You stuck in a ditch, you stuck in a ditch--ain't no way out.

5. Blues cars: Chevys, Fords, Cadillacs and broken-down trucks.

Blues don't travel in Volvos, BMWs, or Sport Utility Vehicles.

Most Blues transportation is a Greyhound bus or a Southbound train, Blues NEVER go on the Northbound train.

Jet aircraft and state-sponsored motor pools ain't even in the running.

Walkin' plays a major part in the Blues lifestyle.

So does fixin' to die.

6. Teenagers cain't sing the Blues - they ain't fixin' to die yet.

Adults sing the Blues.

In Blues, "adulthood" means being old enough to get the electric chair if you shoot a man in Memphis.

7. Blues can take place in New York City but not in Hawaii or anyplace in Canada.

Hard times in Minneapolis or Seattle is probably just clinical depression.

Chicago, St. Louis, and Kansas City are still the best places to have the Blues.

You cannot have the Blues in any place that don't get rain.

8. A man with male pattern baldness ain't the Blues.

A woman with male pattern baldness is.

Breaking your leg cause you were skiing is not the Blues.

Breaking your leg 'cause a alligator be chomping on it is.

9. You cain't have no Blues in a office or a shopping mall - the lighting is wrong.

Go outside to the parking lot or sit by the dumpster.

10. Good places for the Blues:

a. highway
b. jailhouse
c. empty bed
d. bottom of a whiskey glass

Bad places for the Blues:

a. Nordstrom
b. gallery openings
c. Ivy League institutions
d. golf courses

11. No one will believe it's the Blues if you wear a suit, 'less you happen to be a old person, and you slept in it for the last 6 months..

12. Do you have the right to sing the Blues?

Yes, if:

a. you older than dirt
b. you blind
c. you shot a man in Memphis
d. you cain't be satisfied

Not if:

a. you have all your teeth
b. you were once blind but now can see
c. the man in Memphis lived
d. you have a 401K or trust fund

13. Blues is not a matter of color - it's a matter of bad luck.

Tiger Woods cannot sing the blues - Sonny Liston could.

Ugly white people also got a leg up on the Blues.

14. If you ask for water and your darlin' give you gasoline, it's the Blues.

Other acceptable Blues beverages are:

a. cheap wine
b. whiskey or bourbon
c. muddy water
d. nasty black coffee

The following are NOT Blues beverages:

a. Perrier
b. Chardonnay
c. Snapple
d. Slim Fast

15. If death occurs in a cheap motel or a shotgun shack, it's a Blues death.

Stabbed in the back by a jealous lover is another Blues way to die.

So is the electric chair, substance abuse and dying lonely on a broken down cot.

You cain't have a Blues death if you die during a tennis match or while getting liposuction.

16. Some Blues names for women:

a. Sadie
b. Big Mama
c. Bessie
d. Fat River Dumpling

17. Some Blues names for men:

a. Joe
b. Willie
c. Little Willie
d. Big Willie

18. Persons with names like Michelle, Amber, Debbie, and Heather cain't sing the Blues no matter how many men they shoot in Memphis.

19. Make Your Own Blues Name Starter Kit:

a. name of physical infirmity (Blind, Cripple, Lame, etc..)
b. first name (see above) plus name of fruit (Lemon, Lime, Kiwi,etc..)
c. last name of President (Jefferson, Johnson, Fillmore, etc..)

For example: Blind Lime Jefferson, Jakeleg Lemon Johnson or Cripple Kiwi Fillmore, etc.(Well, maybe not "Kiwi.")

20. I don't care how tragic your life is - if you own even one computer, you cannot sing the Blues.

(DAMN!)

Vaya,

Scouts Out!

Thank You my friend, love it.  I have a friend who is a professional musician, which means he's never had a real job, he is a good Bluesman, finally has made enough money doing studio work for others to buy some teeth, the original ones fell out when he was still drinking.  He's doing fairly well now.  We were driving one night in my old Plymouth Fury, a white one, looked like a cop car, so it has to count. ;D  Anyway he looked at me and said, "You know I love that Hank Sr. you have on, it's just the Blues with an Upright Steel and fiddles."  I then realized how wise my friend really was. ;)

Lyrics
Me and my old lady
Ain't been getting along
If things don't get better
I'll soon be long gone

The situation is driving me insane
Somebody fetch me my hat and coat
And hand me my walking cane

(CHORUS)
Gotta put on my traveling shoes
Gotta put on my traveling shoes
Gotta put on my traveling shoes
Gotta put on my traveling shoes
.

I'm trying to tell you, boys
These hard headed women these days
The way they treat a man
Ain't nothing but a doggone shame

I talked and talked and talked
She didn't hear a word I said
Gonna get somebody's baseball bat
And send her out again

(CHORUS)
