Spencer Shooting Society / Spencers in Baltimore
« Last post by DJ on March 21, 2024, 02:48:51 PM »
Just back from the Baltimore Show.  Somewhat smaller this year, but packed with interesting arms--kind of like a museum, but have you ever tried to pick up one of the display guns at the Smithsonian to check the bore?  There seemed to be more Spencer rifles this year than in the recent past--about 25 or maybe more, mostly M1860s.  Four were on one table, one of those with a descriptive sign (and price).

It was a very good time.

I bought a Chiappa Spencer in 45 Colt two months ago. I had on hand a box of Missouri 255 Keith cast bullets coated with hi-tek coating. I loaded them to exactly 1.6 inches. Mine has ran almost perfect from day one. If I work the lever with authority it feeds and shoots like a champ. Sometimes the very last round in the tube gets a little fussy but it’ll still feed. At first it was a learning curve on how to work that lever. Don’t baby it. Now that I have probably 300 rounds through it it is smooth as butter except for that very last round sometimes.

And I can't read.  Ewige is eternal and Jager is hunter.  i read Slim's reply as Ewige is eternal hunter, which got my history/folklore wheels going and was thinking of linquistic connections to Herne the Hunter and Cernunnos (those two are linquistically related and are both depicted as horned hunters).    Regardless, it was a fun dive!   Welcome to the group!

I have no idea what the word Meldrum refers to, but the gun is a nickle plated laser engraved Pietta with the BP frame, in .357 or .45

Maybe it's related to this:

Good shooting Mr Pinto Beans , glad to hear someone is doing some shooting . That 45-75 carries well at that range . It’s easy to see why the frontiersman were partial to it .  Thanks for giving me a little spark , much needed ! ,,,,,DT

Sure, they do:

But there is no description, just the picture.

Is anyone here familiar with this Model?  I ran across it on some of the auction sites. Cimarron's web site does not list this variation.
