Happy New Year to all Y'all, May the best of 2019 be the worse of 2020!!

Still not time here, roommate and nurse are making a lot of noise, rough day in PT, zipper is sore and it makes it hurt when I breathe. Nice nurse just brought me 2 more Percocet, we're keeping me kinda heavy on them so I can do better PT and not eating to breathe deep enough because of hurting is slowing me down just a bit.
-
Happy New Year!
-
You too John.
Must be some stupids out tonight. Room is real close to South street and I am 3 blocked west of Bryan West Campus ER entrance, 3 ambulances have went by in the last hour.

Percocets must be Keeping you awake.
Not sure when I fell asleep was watching Sherlock Holmes. I think it was over when Suzanne turned off the light.
Dogs did not whine too much must not have been many fireworks.
Had Text from Trinity and Sod Buster both this morning. Apparently they were able to stay awake.

Morning all, and Happy New Year to you.
I stayed awake the whole time, watched documentaries about volcanoes and petted my dog. That's about the sum of my evening.
Woke up this morning with a cough, which is going to be really helpful when I leave for basic training in 6 days. :-\

Thanks for the coffee, Del still praying for you and the misses.
Well seems like I made it another year. I new I would get old,
just didn;t know it would happen so fast. :)

Basic where at Lackland?
Yep.
Morning all.
Heading to the city today for some errands, then lunch with a friend.
Good to see you doing better, Del. Are you going to get a zipper tattoo on your chest? A fellow I know who had a bypass surgery got corset strings tattooed on his scars.

Christmas morning, lunch today, hey first one was free and I get it in the fall late winter so it don't look fresh cut at events.
-
Yep.
Bet it?s changed some in the years since I went there.
Glen you look entirely different without a proper hat on yer head
-
House passed safety inspection for a couple old cripples, couple other ideas the kids are going to add.
Looks like Tuesday is still a go.
I walked to the dining room without the walker, probably won't need one at home, but insurance will buy one and I will accept it when offered.
-
Bet it?s changed some in the years since I went there.
Just a bit. It's revamped starting this year to be even more like the army. We get to use real M16s now, and have to run every day.
--TK
-
When I was in there in 1978 we had M-16's on the range, I was in Sqdn. 3707 Flight 143.
-
We ran everyday unless it was a 100 or above (in combat boots) used M16 at range- then later at azr (combat) along with others. Summer71 and agin in late 71.
Canteens not camel paks or bottle water
Boots not running or cross trainers or the modern boots - that are a better boot.
exercised on a asphalt pad.
Oh yeah I miss that.... of course I miss diarrhea too.
TK good luck there and thank you for serving

Rain continues...much needed
Local flooding.
Had to dispatch a sickly looking TrashPanda last night. We had seen it early in the morning near the road. He made its way to the old barn by dark. Our dog pointed him out near the feed room. He was sad looking health wise. I did what was needed. We feel safer now.
In doing this I found my Ruger MkIII had some feeding issues. Not sure if it was the magazine or if I was limp wristing . Rain slows I will try it and figure it out.
-
Been spending the past couple rainy days cleaning and dusting and function testing.
-
We ran everyday unless it was a 100 or above (in combat boots) used M16 at range-
Canteens not camel paks or bottle water
We had canteens that were WW2 leftovers,Most were Date marked in the early 40's
Boots not running or cross trainers or the modern boots - that are a better boot
We ran in either Combat boots or the "chukka" boots depending on what day it was.
exercised on a asphalt pad.
Same here, ours was under the barracks wings so no matter the weather, we did PT every morning.
Oh yeah I miss that.... of course I miss diarrhea too.
Miss some of the people, the rest not so much

Yep lot of surplus from ww2 and Korea. Leftovers from the army depots. It got the job done
-
Army Basic at Ft Leonard Wood, we ran daily in combat boots to. Though they did issue us some really awful "Athletic Shoes". They had really flimsy soles, but with cleats as big as sewing thimbles. And you could feel those huge things with every step. I don't remember ever using them for anything.
-
We're up, going to head to breakfast in a bit.
-
In your honor Glen we will be having oatmeal with lime jello- weakiest coffee we can make. Walking to breakfast is a good thing

plan today is the habitual Saturday Toy store visit & lunch with my shooting pard.

I took my basic at Fort Leonard Wood in 1959. Remember going to the rifle range with a M-1 Garand and no eye or ear protection. We ran in combat boots. As long as you kept your mouth shut and did what they told you to do, basic training was not a problem.

Uncle did in 64 for the National Guard, Fort Lost in the Woods.

Got back from PT, big improvement even since yesterday.
Tuesday is the plan, Gopher Grease will bring Riley home, said he was going to wash and wax him first. They said they hate to give him up but he needs to get back with us.
Ain't got all the details worked out but Lexie is going to stay with us till she's out of school most likely, at 14 what she wants along that line within reason is allowed, not sure if her dad is going to fight it but mom ain't, my oldest is owned some favors from a legal aid group she said she'd call in if needed.
Hadn't planned on raising a teenager again but can't refuse, ex wife has a daughter about the same age and they are including Lexie in things, ex mother in law is also.

Nothing of consequence or stash dwindling at the Toy store ...which is good cause the gun show last week kind of depleted the sock drawer....
Lunch was one of our favored haunts .... China Buffet & sushi bar ...
Front passed through and temps will 40 degrees cooler that todays high of 82 tomorrow.
Del good to see you are on track :)

Another Unusual January day here... the talking heads say, the bottom is going to fall out of it by the weekend. With severe weather. The more usual type Jan. Weather.
Will stock up on coffee.
Going to sit in the blind a few hours today. Ya?ll keep it between the lines.
-
Ain't looked at the weather, what does it matter to someone under house arrest. Rita gets to go on an outing today to the Dr, I have to stay home with my spoiled clingy dog. Will probably be doggy tears when she leaves and a joyful reunion when she gets back.
Having a cup, ain't done many of them with water restrictions.
Sitting at the desk top for now, will likely do a nap in a bit, got a pretty good sleep last night.
-
Welcome to my world.... I am still trying to get a little more out of life everyday. You were up and walking faster than I was. Glen God is not done with you yet. Use it to your best ability. Don?t quit it or give up. That spoilt? pup and Lexie want you around.

ONE MORE DRY DAY: We will enjoy one more rain-free day across Alabama? look for a party sunny sky today with a high in the mid 60s. Clouds will thicken tonight as moist air surges northward from the Gulf of Mexico.
TOMORROW: The day will be mostly cloudy and mild; the high will be in the 68-72 degree range. Showers will likely begin by afternoon, with rain becoming more widespread Friday night. A few thunderstorms are possible, but the severe weather threat will be well to the west of Alabama, over parts of East Texas, Southeast Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana.
Trying to prune a couple little Apple Trees at the point wear if they don?t blossom this year - I will hook a chain around them. I planted them 5 years ago never a blossom.
Thanks for the coffee Slim

Daughter left for a bit, to run some of hers and ours errands, yes I can get the cabbage out and put dressing on it to make a salad, it's already chopped. She'll be back later and make supper. ;D
Just not used to this having others do stuff for me, lamp came unplugged last night and I was going to help move the bed and Lexie yelled at me, I said damn it dummy before I did, still got lectured. Just check BP and it was 109/59 and HR of 63 so I get a gold star for the day. Gonna go take pain meds, I skipped the 8 am one with the percocet, the other two did fine till now and been up doing things so I hurt when I breath too deep so I'm supposed to take them then, if I don't I breath too shallow and the O2 goes down. They said as fast as I'm progressing should be off the pain meds in a couple weeks but then they don't want me to just stop.
This sure has the charm of the whole thing running thin. ::)

The Air Force doesn't have Drill instructors, They're called Technical Instructors. The only thing I had to explain was what a female friend wrote on the back of the letter meant. ;D ;D

Moving to a whole new place in the same practice my daughter uses, told the lady at the rehab hospital what I wanted and she suggested the one she uses. Not blaming mine for the heart mess, been unhappy for a while and not happy about some other stuff.

Not sure the warden's plan for today.

Damn the torpedos ..... full steam ahead,( or full speed ahead, are paraphrase from ?4 Bells.?) Captain.
How do they know how much you can do if you don?t try first? Of course you could get a pile of disc and movie binge.
-
We are going on an adventure, taking Rita to have lunch with craft friends, I'm going go see mom and were going to some stores. Probably ride the mart cart and if I decide not to go in I'm taking the tablet for entertainment.
-
Currently we are in the tornado sheltered
-
Safe to come out - we think
-
We're back, went on an adventure, dropped Rita off at church at her crap (craft) thing, she took her knitting. Lexie, the Warden and me went to my mom's for an hour or so and then did some shopping, stayed in the car at Dollar Tree, went in Petco and bought Riley a new collar, walked it, no mart cart.
Went to Hy Vee and got some groceries, walked it also, went in with Lexie at the church and got Rita.
Came home, the warden dug in the refrigerator and got some taco meat out and heated it and I had some tacos. Took pain meds because it was time both as far as schedule and pain level. Had no shortness of breath at a slow old man pace, will work on picking that up.
BP when I got up at 8 was 105 over 59, and 63 for rate. Made it from about midnight to almost 8 with out waking up, kept liquid to 1 1/2 -liter yesterday with1-2 being ideal so didnt need the plumbing check. Dried and fresh fruit are keeping things ok, pain meds can raise heck with that also.
Laying down, may nap in a bit, pretty happy with with what I did, start cardio in a week or so I think, warden has the schedule, I just get dressed and go when told.🙄
The warden is running some more errands, will be back in about an hour and hget Lexie and drop her off at a movie, then she's staying on that side of town an doing some stuff at her house and visit her kitties, then both will be back after the movie, so Rita and I will have about 4 hours to ourselves not that we will do anything.😇
Guess that is a good update, Little Brown Dog was glad to see us, first time he's been left by himself in a little over a month, not saying he's spoiled, but he cried a bit when we got home.

X-ray looked good, cleared to drive but not on the narcotics, will stay on them a bit longer because I can do more of what I need to do. Walked two grocery stores after appointment.

Sore and took the full pain meds for the rest of the day but am getting off them.

Damn, fires out, coffee is cold, he the kid is doing good. Up checking the plumbing and getting some pain meds. Cut it way down, but the morning and early afternoon, by late afternoon and evening I get sore. Nice to get a good sleep, having a minor other problem people have after surgery and on pain meds. May not be allowed to shop at the pharmacy at the Russ's Market on 66th street no more, the one we usually go to would have never been caught off guard with me.
Old joke, couldn't find what I needed, they changed the package over the 12 years since I needed them, went and asked the lady, she came and found them for me. Couldn't help myself, looked over the package and told her those didn't ever work. Lady looked confused and I told her I might as well shove them up my butt for all the good they did.😂🙄😳
Daughter lady and daughter both about lost it laughing, I put them in my cart and thanked her, daughter just did a face palm.

Trying to back off on pain meds, had to refill them, they may have cracked or strained some ribs, not uncommon. Using less meds but if I don't take enough it hurts to breather in the ribs?muscles and then BP/Heart rate goes up. Most times running under 120/70 and rate under 60. But that's resting also.
It looks like I'm going to live and should be back to normal. I love it, been reporting in my FB cooking groups and I got a lot of people telling me I need to get well because I haven't taught them everything I know yet.
Went into this with the thought if I couldn't come completely back I'd pass on most of the gear and just show up places and help with others and continue to teach.

A church group showed up this morning and took over the storm clean up here. Less than 2 hours they had it all on our brush pile. They even got trees that fallen previously. They are going to bring a bucket truck back and get a widow maker in front of the house. They truly have been a blessing.

Heard of such ... read of and elderly couple that needed help ...a group showed up repaired & painted their home hauled away a accumulated rubbish.
It was heart warming.
It wasn't a church group it was employee wide project of Shepard Exposition ....another project was preparing bulk meal packets for donation to the Hurricane damaged islands. They do Toys for children at Xmas.

Went to bed at 9, up checking the plumbing and taking some of the good stuff. Should sleep through the night, incision really don't hurt but muscles or ribs on the right side do and it makes it hard to breath full deep, then rate and PB goes up. Been running 125-130 over 60-75 and a rate of 60-90. Not bad, but never had high BP or cholesterol problems, reason this sneaked up.
Looks from the radar like we might get another dusting, but looks like we dodged the bullet on this one.

Went to grocery store with The Warden and Lexie, stocked up on some things, walked the whole store. The Warden made cheese burgers which were good, wouldn't let me have any ice cream, she is almost as bad as having a fancy nutritionist around and is right.
The new GP wants me to keep monitoring the diabetes but not to do anything but diet for 2 months.
Daughter went to her house to do some homework on her desk top, something wasn't working out on the lap top.
Lexie is doing dishes, I've been giving her some cash for helping and buying her stuff she wants at the store.
Not for public broadcast but it's looking like we will likely get custody of her soon, CPS is involved I guess through school. Basically Lexie and The Warden are doing it.

Have a 1911, Browning HiPower, Win 94 and a couple single shot .22's that he most likely had a hand in designing. Have to get up early tomorrow for a Pre-Op check. I'm having a spinal cord stimulator installed to counteract the pain signals to my brain. I did a 6 day trial with a temporary unit and it brought my pain level from a solid 9 on a 1 to 10 scale down to about a 3, It was amazing the difference it made. I'll be getting the procedure done on the 30th and should be in the hospital for 2 days then 4 to 6 weeks recovery time.

Nice thing about being on restricted fluid and a morning water pill is I don't wake up in the night to check the plumbing, I'm checking the kitchen for healthy snacks. ::) ;D
Warden found me some burro bananas yesterday, just consumed the last of them. Non traditional ones are starting to show up here but it's hit and miss. these have a slight lemony taste also besides nanner taste and the little red finger ones have a slight raspberry taste also. Sure has ruined me for those Cavendish type that make up 99.9% of bananas sold.
Still hungry, took a good nap after cardio rehab, took a small one after supper. Did everything good in rehab except the treadmill, got a little dizzy on it, they said that can be common at first and asked me if I ever had that problem before. Kinda got a blank look when I told them I didn't know, never been on one before. ;)
Guess I'll look and think about healthy, most stuff here is, but actually has been pretty well that way, diet people are amazed how healthy I do eat with out training, guess more modern people need trained. They let me have an Eskimo Pie earlier as a reward for being good, the warden went home for the night, but had told Lexie I could have one and only one. No mention about what I had to do for one. Last night I ate something called quinoa, some plant in the spinach family that the Incas grew and modern Yuppie types eat, not really that bad, will not turn down.

Little keen-wa once in a while is not too bad. I do draw the line at Kale. I think even our goats turned it away. We pick up stuff from local markets for our chickens and goats. Goats are picky eaters. I don?t wake up at night for plumbing checks either. If I wasn?t using oxygen it might be a different story.
Glen are you on leaner cuts of meat or protein?

No on the meat, I have to watch the carbs and sugar till we get the diabetes under control, we'er finally going to get to that.
Secret to kale is to treat it like it's smooth leafed brother, it ain't nothing but collards with a wrinkly leaf, boil it with some hog jowls and a little vinegar and hot sauce it's the same or make kim chee out of it.
The other I always wanted to try and daughters eat it a lot because of celics.

Continue to insult them with this ;D kale is very bitter there is nothing short of nuclear fallout that could change it. Deep fry and munch on it if you wish. But don?t compare it to collards or turnip/mustard greens. These are things you guys at the wagon know nothing about from experience. It is one of the few things the Yankees didn?t steal when they marched thru the south with their matches.

Well that was interesting. I now know more about Bananas than the produce guy at our local store. I have seen some different varieties in the store. Never known how to tell in what stage of ripeness they are. I have bought plantains and double fried them. They are pretty good. So I guess I could slice one up on my cereal this morning.
