Del, Flat heads were a little before my time. The small block Fords were my time period, 260-289-302. Knew my way around those I did......Buck 8) ::) ;)

Not a thing wrong witha 302, either.  Actually my favorite is still the 327 Chevy.  Man, the things that could be done with that.

Let us not forget the 426 HEMI.......

dated a girl whose brother had a 64 Plymoth, gas can red had blackand white striped headers under neath. Whole front end was aluiminuim (just ask Old Top how fragile that was)

The guy uncorked the headers , and took us each for a QUICK ride around the block....The cops came and said anybody been racin around here and we all stood there goin.....nope! and behind us the metal on the headers were going snap, crackle, crackle...

them were the days, and gas was a quarter a gallon...

Ahhhh, but them classic rods are history also. ;)

We don't need no stinking small block chevy V8.  What we need is a 37 Chevy coupe with a GMC truck 6 cylinder, spilt the many-fold for duals, add an Isky cam, shave a bit off the head and put 3 97's on top.  (No not Winchester 97's, Stromsbergs. ;D)  Maybe even a LaSalle 4 speed, now that would be cool. ;D ;D ;D

 :D

So!  How did Forty's post about renting a car morph into a discussion of hot rods and such??  It is one of my favorite subjects; I've been playing with things that run on gasoline since I was a young child.
I admire and revere a well built "Flattie",
I think a ground poundin' "hemi" is a thrill to be around,
I have a real soft spot in my old self for a hot "Jimmy", or a "Stovebolt",
I could take apart and re-assemble a Chevy small block blindfolded - "Rats" too,
And F-O-R-D engines just confuse me (too many variations in the same group).

So, Foty Rod, how are ya gonna get to Utah?

 ;) :D ;D

A belly tank off a P-51 Mustang powered by a flathead Ford Engine with a set of Ardun over head valve conversion heads and a Hiborn fuel injection system. ;D

Greatest car sound in the world is Ferrari Testa Rossa 350 wth the V-12 in full cry.

Second is a Lotus Eleven with that itty-bitty 4 banger in full cry.

Either one will wake up the chickens.

Both are a riot to drive. (I like the Lotus better, but not by much.)

Dang!!  Talk about dredgin' something up from the past - April 9, '05 to December 10, '06; only a year and eight months between posts.   8) ;D

A couple of other "one of a kind" sounds from the world of engines are the Ariel Square Four, and a Triumph Trident, winding up or wound out; unique.  Of course, there are a few others as well, but those two just popped right into my head when I read this.

Say, Forty Rod, how did you get to Utah??  ;) :D

Another one with a distinctive sound was the original Mazda RX-2's and 3's in race form. A header with about three feet of flame and a racket that was really unusual...........Buck 8) ::) :o
