I reckon it's good that Mr. Ketchum didn't see your branding irons, eh?

Delmonico rides inta Sleep's camp to find no one there and the fire dead and cold.   :(

Mumblin' about the durned mornin' shift not showin' up fer two mornin's in a row, Delmonico reaches inta his saddle back and gets out a wooden box.  In it is a bunch of Excelsior, packed in it is a DeWar flask.  Delmonico pours a cup of steamin' hot coffe out of the flask and repacks it and puts the box away in his saddle bags. ;D ;D ;D

As he drinks his coffee he looks around and finds a rattly old saddle blanket and some twine.  ::)  After he finishes his coffee he digs his pencil stub out of his watch pocket and fishes a card given him by some drummer.  On the back side he writes, "Sleep I needed to borry yer old saddle blanket, will return it as soon as possible." ;)

Delmonico then uses the twine to fasten the blanket under his horses tail. ??? ??? ???  As he rides off he is gigglin' to himself, knowin' the Cas-City folks are wonderin' what he is up to now. :o :o ??? ??? ;D :D ;)

Guess I won't find out 'til i get back.  Gotta ride up to Las Vegas (The one in Nevada) to see some folks an' pick up some more tradin' material.

Hold it together until I get back.

Eewwie! He used it for jerky after tying it under his horse's tail?

That's just nasty.

We got just a little freezing rain, it's slick out so I won't be going anywhere.
Cancelled my trip into town after surveying two cars in the ditch down the road, I don't need anything that bad.

Afternoon all. Still any coffee? Was up late again beatin' the bushes in Virginia. Beginning to think "Caroline" may be a township in Lancaster Co.....'bout beat myself to death tryin' to get a couple maps I found make sense. Annie found me a good'un, but it wasn't there either. I'll have another cup ,please, if there's any yet........Buck 8) ::) ;)

Cummon, Del, you do it to keep the horse's rear from freezing shut, right?

:D

Buck, I was looking at those maps and links far too late last night. One thing I found was that counties were orginally called "shires". One of those links went to the 1890 census of towns and cities in Virginia. Some of those towns had 10 or fewer people. There wasn't a Caroline listed in the bunch. I also found that Giles was in southwestern Virginia, so if your family was in Giles, they may have already been on the move west.
