1984-5-6 right in there somewhere, every week night 11:30 pm had to watch Barney Miller. Loved that squad room setting, our squad room had characters that would have fit right in. Hill Street Blues, was great... should have been able to log in-service training points for watching that one. What were (are) your favorites???
-
Barney Miller, Hill Street Blues and Adam 12.
Lawdawg
-
"Dragnet" and "Car 54 Where are you".
-
Gotta be Dragnet with Jack Webb, and of course Adam 12. My name really is Jim Reed :) ;) ;D 8) ::)
-
Dragnet and Adam 12. After that I watch Law and Order. I love how the ADA's go out and investigate the case. Anyone know of an ADA that would do that???
Around here they just call the detective in and have him do it!!
Tascosa
PS Sometimes ya have to remember that DA's are Attorneys too :-X
-
I've had some of them DAs like that myself. I always enjoyed going to an intake atty to present a dope case and have to explain the charge and penalty group to him. :D >:( :o ::) :-\
-
well I guess if ya get right down to it; "Gunsmoke" would qualify as a TV Police show. ;D
Oh, almost forgot probably THE BEST TV Police show would have to be "Andy Griffith".

Gunsmoke is definitely a classic. I got to meet Buck Taylor several years ago at the Fat Stock Show in Ft. Worth. He is a fine artist as well as being a fine actor. The Andy Griffith show took law enforcement to a "new" level. Barney gave new meaning to the term "Crime Fighter"! :) ;) :D ;D :o 8) ??? ::) :-\
-
Texas Law Dog, how long did you spend in narcotics?
I did 17 years as a narc. First as an agent and the last 11 years as assistant commander.

I do believe my favorite was "Police Story"! Being a So. Cal. LEO, that show had a lot of the inside humor, methodology, and comraderee we had. "Barney Miller" was good for a chuckle too! The Characters were a hoot!

Tascosa, I spent almost 5 yrs total. Three years one place and two years another. I did more CID and Patrol than anything else.
-
Hill St Blues. I never missed an episode. Mostly to watch Capt Furillos public defender babe. Hubba!
Dragnet and Adam 12 also high on the list.
Lets not forget (all you OLD guys) Highway Patrol with Broderick (10-4) Crawofrd.
Miami Vice was ridiculous but very entertaining. I also made some cash off them working off duty.
Most effective cop ever? Sheriff Andy Taylor?
Funniest cop ever? Fish on Barney Miller.
;) ;D ;D
-
Headquarters to 2150! 2150 by. Dan Matthews HighWay Patrol. What about the Sheriff of Cochise County with the Winchester clamped to the door panel. :) ;) :D ;D :o 8) ::)
-
Now that I've had time to think about it, I sort o' favored McCloud with Dennis Weaver, and I think he also had a show before that one where he was a Sheriff in northen NM for a while. I liked that one too.
Tascosa

Police Story, Dragnet, Adam 12 and Dan August.
-
Hey Pards, :o
I know I have already contributed, but cleanin' up the ol' RV (the campin kind not the Revolver ;D) and two shows that we all couldn't miss! :P (those with the gray hair)
THE MOD SQUAD!!!! :o AND OF COURSE HAWAII 5 O
You all remember "Bookum Dano". Good scenery, great lead in music! Jack Lord never with a hair out of place! 8) and Dano (James McArthur) always the faithful GOfer. Just joshin about Mod Squad! ;D
Then there was Efferin Zimbalist Jr. with THE FBI! Always out there solving local crime for us locals! When they Filmed a show in the City I was a LEO in, got to meet the man and his co-star Peter Something (having one of those er, ah... moments). Fun to watch all those take after takes to get the right shot.
Sorry I got so windy there!! ::)

Oh yes Hawii 5-0 and Hill
street Blues
-
Ya'll can't forget two of the greatest Detectives who ever solved a TV crime, Columbo, did that trench coat need an oil change or what? but his interview skills couldn't be matched..."can I asked you just one more question before I leave"... OK who was the other one somebody(mister dapper)?
-
Could you be thinging of "Peter Gunn"?
BB ;D
-
How about Mannix? He had some neat cars too! :) 8) ::)
-
Not a PI, a real TV detective remember the taylored suits and the stingy brim hat and the lollipop, none other than Kojac. ::) ::) ::)
-
Has to be "Hill Street Blues". I watched this before I put the badge on. I would have loved to have a watch sergeant like Phil Esterhaus. Our narcs did have a Bleker.
-
Did anyone mention "The Streets of San Francisco"?
Slim
-
Hey Slim your right! ;D
One of the first, Carl Maldin, and the new kid on the block, none other than Michael Douglas!!! :o :o :o
Good show!
BB ;D
-
:) My favorite show was "Police Woman" with Angie Dickerson.
-
Police Woman. They always found some excuse to get her into a bathing suit. What legs she had.
-
Hill Street Blues, Law & Order, NYPD Blue, and let's not forget... ol' well I have. Oh yeh, that show starring Fred Dryer --- Hunter.
-
Columbo.
Still on and I still watch it.
-
Adam 12 followed by Hill Street Blues and Streets of San Francisco.
Lawdawg

Is it too late to say "The Shield" on FX is a good one? And of course, the old standby, COPS...
Andy Griffith is of course the winner in the Classic category!
-
"One Adam Twelve, see the man." Yes and "Hill Street Blues" "Streets of San Francisco." Best cop shows, they don't make em like that anymore!
-
Hill Street Blues. Plus it had a cool theme song. Couldn't complain about the public defender much either. ;D
-
...

I can't imagine the circumstances under which I would willingly sit down and watch anything on television other than a race or a football game..................
..
-
howdy all, got to agree, Dragnet( have an autographed picture of Jack Webb someplace) Adam 12, Police Story, Hill street blues, (have a Coffe mug with a cruiser "Hill Street Blues") Gunsmoke if appclable, oh yeah S.W.A.T. Nowdays its Law and Order L&O SVU. and CSI.
Snake Eyes
-
NYPD Blue. Hands down.
-
BARNEY MILLER!!!
-
Hill Street Blues. Probably the first show that portrayed police officers as real human beings.
-
Howdy, now I would have to say with 25 yrs as a lawdawg "Hill Street Blues" "Streets of San Francisco" "Adam 12" "Police Story"
I wish they were in reruns now. Oh yea, "Gunsmoke" ;D :) ;) :D

Barney Miller 1st, Hill street Blues 2nd

Adam 12 was my personal favorite.... Followed by Dragnet.
Now I can't sit through to many of the copshows on TV. CSI (Las Vegas), Dallas SWAT and an occasional episode of the Shield are about all I can stomach. Miami Vice was entertaining in the 80's but not as good now. Andy Griffith re-runs are great at 2 in the morning when you can't sleep and the rest of the house is off to bed... (Got to love those graveyard shift days off, huh?)
-
Well, being as how my real name is/was Officer. "Molloy," in the old days (70s and 80s) I always got kidding about being Adam 12.
One time in the the mid 70s I was an Investigator for the Army on Fort Ord. Took down a civilian drug dealer, identifying myself as "Investigator Molloy." He immediately started laughing and singing as I arrested him and cuffed him "I don believe it, I don believe it. I done been busted by Adam 12!" I guess it was better than him fighting me <g>.
I ran into him years later in a grocery store in Grass Valley (after I was a civilian deputy instead of an Army investigator). He recognized me and laughing said "Damn, you be that Adam-12 that busted me for sellin dope on Fort Ord!" He shook my hand (believe it or not) and walked out of the store laughing!
In the mid 90s, I was partnered with a Deputy Reed due to a vehicle shortage. Of course that night thje sgt. and dispatch assigned us the call sign of "3-Adam-12" (3 instead of 1, because we were swing shift).
-
I'm there with you T.L....
In my department, back a few years (it's changed since then), our call signs were set up as follows: Beat area, single man car=P, two man car=A, car number.... Normally I worked 1P12... then I ended up with a partner for a while, and became, by default, 1A12... over the radio it was "One-Adam-Twelve"...... We had a dispatcher that couldn't resist it, and each time we got a call, it was "One-Adam-Twelve, See the man....."
My then partner, now Sergeant, has an autographed photo of "Ofc. Reed", with an actual era LAPD badge, in a nice framed shadow box on the wall behind his desk..... The newer rookies look at it and ask if that is a picture of his father.... and that makes me feel really old..... they don't have a clue what Adam 12 even was......
-
I am a big fan of the Shield. I view it as more of a comedy than anything else but it is exciting to watch.
-
What is really sad is that in 1999, I was a basic academy co-ordinator and Tactical officer at a Bay area police academy for a year just after I retired.
One: Not a single recruit out of 54 knew what "Adam 12" was.
Two, and much more depressing, when telling them not to do a "John Wayne" and go into a violent call without back up is possible... NOT A SINGLE RECRUIT KNEW WHO JOHN WAYNE WAS!!!!!! :o :o :o :o

That is just....Un-American and sacriligeous! :o But unfortunately, I know that from first hand experience too! :(
My faves were Adam 12, Dragnet, Gunsmoke, Swat, Miami Vice (was fun), Hill Street Blues. ;D
-
As said many times before Barney Miller and Hill Street. I would like to flip those glasses off the nose of David Caruso on CSI Miami on Monday nights. I can't believe that crap. I have never seen a crime scene unit do a physical arrest. The work that they do has made many arrest. The best one at this time is NCIS. If you don't have a small crush for abby then something is wrong with you. Later Pards

This has been a slow walk down the back alleys of old memories....
I have always enjoyed Dragnet; later ones with Harry Morgan. I have every reprinted DVD I can find on that show.
I liked one of the Miami Vice shows...The one where Willie Nelson played a retired Texas Ranger who lit up some dopers in a graveyard.
Back to reality: One of my mentors in 1971 liked to say, "you couldn't make this shit up."
-
Barney Miller 1st, Hill street Blues 2nd
+1
-
I've got a bunch of the old Dragnet episodes from the 50's with Ben Alexander on DVD. They are classics. Hill Street came as close as real day to day police work. All the wierd stuff that happens on calls.
-
Lets not forget (all you OLD guys) Highway Patrol with Broderick (10-4) Crawofrd.
I'm still looking for "Highway Patrol" in DVD.
"Harry O"
How about "Police Squad"?

:)One of my fav-o-rites of the late 50's and early 60's was "Tales of the Texas Rangers", it came on right around noon on Saturday. I loved it when they unloaded the horses from the trailer and heade for the back country. ;D

Yessir, I always enjoyed that one myself. They had stories of the early days and then did modern episodes.
-
I was home ported in Hawaii when they filmed the Hawaii 50 series.
Like always I hanged around a lot as usual, some times they would find something fer ya to do.
Gofer duties mostly.
Book em Danno.

I forgot about this thread :P
Barny Miller and Hill Street Blues as mentioned....
got into NYPD Blues ..kinda ended abruptly, and aways wondered how Sepowitz & Connie wound up... sorta left you hanging.
I worked on Miami Vice's Pilot & first season so I'm partial ...
Who remembers "Burke's Law" ? about the Millionaire Police Chief and his Rolls Royce Cop car . Gene Berry starred as Burke fresh from his Bat Masterson show.
I like the new show "Bones" ;)
-
Gene's show was also Amos Burke, Secret Agent. I don't remember which one came first. I'm sorta partial to Adam 12, for 15 years of my LEO career, I was the real Officer Jim Reed.
-
Yer the Man Tex. er, I mean.....Officer Jim Reed 8)
Car 54 Where are you......reminded me of the Keystone Cops
Keystone? SD. did some Preacher and Lawdawg duties there. Bar burned down. >:(

Where's Wiley?
-
Dragnet and Adam-12 of course.
-
San Fransico Beat, Gunsmoke, Lawman, Andy Griffith and Reno 911.
-
Hate to say it but I think all the crime shows helped put an end to the westerns that used to be on.
-
Remember Colt 45?
-
Hate to say it but I think all the crime shows helped put an end to the westerns that used to be on.
Maybe that's why I liked Justified so much.
-
'Justified'
'SouthLAnd'
'Adam-12'
'Dragnet'
'Police Story'
'LA Dragnet'
'Peter Gunn'
'Naked City'
This could really become a long list - I first 'listened' to 'Dragnet' on the radio, and probably watched all of the various shows at one time or another.
Scouts Out!
-
I was in to Longmire.... had issue finding it as it was bounced around A&E a good bit ...now its on Netflix I understand.
Barney Miller , NYPD Blue & Hill Sreeet Blue were my go to shows, and the Miami Vice's Pilot & first season as I said I was partial to.
Vice went several more seasons, but I was doing feature films by then.
There was another one I worked on Pilot & 1st. & only season " Caribe " filmed in Miami 1975 stared Stacy Keach, lasted only one season.

Check out Bosch on Amazon
-
Barney Miller (loved it) and Brooklyn 99 for comedy, for drama? Too many to name, you guys have hit all the great ones. Recently finished Justified, it was decent, loved Dragnet and Adam 12 as a kid, Streets of San Fran too.
Someone already mention The Badge?
-
Longmire is back on Netflix. its a short season though. Well worth watching.
-
ADAM-12 (that and Emergency were watched by me prime time... Born in 1970)
Longmire
SouthLAnd
As a kid I loved firemen, and at 4 years old I didn't know what Johnny and Roy were doing to people when not on fire calls, but I knew I was gonna do that when I grew up... And by dag gum I did!!!
ADAM-12 got me into policing for 8 years, and my partner was of the character of integrity like Reed and Malloy and he was my mentor.

McCloud with Dennis Weaver. "He gave NYC 24 hours to get out of town".
