...but I wanted one, and have for some time.  I call her Felina.   ;D

Nice! How's it shoot? I assume it's a semi auto, fires  from closed bolt?

Correct.  This one started out as a base-model Ohio Ordnance 1918A3 and underwent a minor rebuild (by me) into a WWI model.

I've only been once to a hundred-yard range.  Results were good.  Probably would have been better had any of us been better shooters and not half-blind.  The rest of the shooting's all been done on the 25yd range at work.

I gotta say...twenty pounds of rifle really takes the bite out .30-06.

Felina’s a beauty but might be a bit of a ‘06 beast. Very nice work, sir.

Think about walking across Europe carrying a 20# rifle and ammo.  Makes me tired thinking about it.  My uncle said he hated carrying it but was really glad he had it when they got to where they were going.

So'd Frank Hamer.   :P

Very nice BAR!

Frank Hamer's Colt Monitor would likely have looked more like this (oh, how I wish I could get my hands on one of these).

True.

I'm passable sure at least one of the welcoming committee had a BAR.  Possibly Hinton.  What I recall, Hamer used a Model 8 Remington with an aftermarket 15-round magazine.

I believe that you are correct that Frank Hamer used his "pear burner" to greet Mr. Barrow and Miss Parker.  I wouldn't mind finding one of those too, which is much easier to accomplish...

So what did you do to this little beauty? Looks like possibly refinished to a service blue finish. Love it.

The rifle you get from OOW is more or less a Korean War-era model.  A couple of changes get you to a WWII model.  Going earlier than that means some significant parts changes and a little surgery.

Changes to get to a 1918 clone included:

- new furniture (and refinish thereof)
- old style gas regular
- replacement rear sight
- removal via milling the magazine guides on the trigger housing
- strip parkerizing and hand polish to 320-grit and caustic blue...this one was fun because once the barreled action was stripped down we had about an inch of clearance either end of our bluing tank

OOW included a late/postwar canvas sling.  The one pictured at the start of the thread is a Turner early (brass hardware) variant.

I'm still short the correct flash hider, but since I shoot without one half the time it's not a major concern.
