I didn't see the crash as RFD-TV missed it...
Ridden in many parades and there are many causes for horses to spook...bands, too many folks in the area, floats, strange cars & most of all silly string ::)
Almost got dumped myownself riding in the 4th of July parade sidesaddle when a little girl shot my horse Blanco with it and he hopped in the air on me. Glad they outlawed it but the didn't outlaw the dang sellers of it
Hope the horse and rider were OK that's a rough way to start the parade.

Holy cow!! bikes tangled in the reins?? Thanks for checkin' that out Rick
That would've been a wreck..most of those hoss' are used to smaller parade venues...the Rose Parade is 100x more to get used to :P

I heard Bob Eubanks talkin about it (he is a big BIG horse person), and the bike rider rode between the horses, and got his handlebars caught in the reins. I believe I would have clocked that guy after I got my horse settled down....but that is what went down and I don't think any of the channels showed the incident it self.

They showed it on the Today show,i was recording it,when i saw it  i thought oh crap if the other horses get spooked or riled this could get ugly. And it seemed to me all the horses were out of place and riders didn't have complete control, usually lined up like soldiers marching facing one way and complete control..

Uh oh grand duaghter just showed up.. :)

From what I saw, a flag wrapped around the head of the horse causing it to spook.  Couldn't tell if the rider was carrying the flag or someone else.  That was a bad reaction on the part of the horse.  The rider stayed on until the horse hit the ground.  Good thing as going off backwards onto pavement is very dangerous.

Looked to me like the rider was trying to get back on the horse in the beginning and got mounted temporarily and was thrown off,he was on the asphalt and lost his hat too, real hard to see what spooked the horse but i did see a flag that was held by another rider. ??? ???

After about 12 viewings of this, I have come to the conclusion that the thrown rider had not received his flag yet.  The rider beside him had two flags; one was hanging behind his horse.  When he turned, the flag hanging behind him draped over the other guy's horse, causing the horse to panic.  You'll notice the flag leaving the scene with the other horse.  This is an excellant example of why you should always sack out a horse with a blanket over his head.

Hence the term "spook rags" is known in the horse world.

I too have seen that elephant  ::)

My Cavalry Unit was invited to do the Tangerine Bowl Parade Orlando Fl.
A mile & ½  in, we started down Church St. and approached Rosie O Gradies,
My Morgan, blew up just before the overhead walkway where ABC Network Cameras were broadcasting nationwide!
I rode it out, but I was mighty embarrassed, China had never done anything like it before.
The horse was around cameras on film shoots many times and was a camera hound.
So I figured it was the overhead Crossway itself.

I don't know which channel I had on for that parade but the fall was just barely on the edge of the screen, you could tell they went down but then they were out of the picture.
