Title: 2013 GAF Postal Match
Post by: Pitspitr on March 19, 2013, 02:08:02 PM
The 2013 GAF Postal Match is now open for registration and competition. See the GAF website "Competition" page for rules and  the target downloads. Once again I'll waive the entry fee for competitors who register by e-mail and print the targets themselves. Competition runs now until May 31.

So I read the rules and printed the targets, but my "Target B" doesn't fit on a regular sized sheet of paper - I get 3 full targets, almost half of another and a little more than half of the 5th.  Can I shoot my five shots at the 3 complete targets?

What size paper should these be printed on?

IIRC (and I am going off memory now) The A and C are on 8.5X11 but the B is on 8.5X14.
Stu you really do need to put it on 8.5X14. It's awfull hard to score those targets when they're shot by someone as accurate as you if you put more than one shot on each target. :)

Not sure how accurate I'll be - can't shoot this with my trusty '92 - I'll be using an old Mauser that doesn't get out much.

I'm quite sure you'll be plenty accurate ;)

Well, Donnie and I shot the rifle course today.  Pretty sure he did better than me.  I used my Krag Carbine, he used a Mosin-Nagant Dragoon.  We'll get 'em in the mail monday!

Aw shucks, I just now found the post.  :o
I could've shot the targets over the weekend.  :-[
Becasue I'm heading off to Ft Riley now.
I'll try to shoot some targets next weekend and get them to you ASAP.

Much obliged for doing the postals, Pitspitr.

Happy to do it.

I'm just not sure when I'm going get mine shot. We had my daughter's wedding over the weekend and one of the other daughters has track meets every weekend from now until the middle of May.

After a daughters wedding you cannot possibly afford to load anything.  Hope you had some ammo stockpiled

Maybe somebody at the school will print something on 8X14 and then realize they don't need it. Then you can "recycle" it and print on the back.  ::)

I'm feeling like a dummy.  I can't find the targets to download.

Go to the "Compitition" page on the grandarmyofthefrontier.org  site, and click on the highlighted words in the text describing the course of fire.

Either or both and as many of each as you'd like.

What works well (for scoring) is to print them on REAL TARGET PAPER.  You can use the backsides of virgin targets.  The holes are easier to score.

Oh yea, i forgot to say that if you try the copying onto target card....
The target card soaks up toner ink.  A single run may be a little light.
You may want to copy it twice for DARKER bulls and scoring lines.

That will aid in scoring too.

Do we really have had to register in March or April? I brought the idea up of the postal match after our May NCOWS shoot, was planning to see how many show up to try.

The Iowa GAF muster is in August, I guess to early to offer for the Fall postal shoot.

When will the Iowa muster be?

Iowa Muster 8/11

We had 3 people shooting the rifle coarse on the 18th, a Spencer, a Krag, & the 3rd, he thought he grabbed his 1891 Nagant. Originally, it was, but now is a Finnish, 27. I encouraged him to go ahead & shoot, but he was using factory ammo, decided not to shoot prone. I let him take 5 shot with my Krag, downloads, he could believe the difference.

Dang---the off-duty weekends are too short.  I ain't had no time to go to a match or muster or even family stuff.  So I still have not had time to get them targets punched.  This active duty is wearing on my sanity sometimes.

Just a reminder to get your targets shot. They must be postmarked by this coming Saturday.

Jerry:

I'm trying, but I can't seem to get a chance to get to the range.  >:(
Staff duty roster caught me again tomorrow.
Maybe I'll just wait until the fall match.   ::) ::)

Thanks for scoring them,
Mustang Gregg

Received them.  I just took a quick glance at them and will look at them closer tonight. Some of the holes look like they will be a little hard to score on a scan because they are harder to tell if they broke a line or not.

I scored them at 45 for myself, 40, for Len.

Hi Guys
Sorry I took so long to get the targets scored. The ranking were as follows:

Smokeless Rifleman

Donnie Luetkemeyer-84    91 Mosin-Nagant
Jerry Davenport-       81    98 Krag-Jorgenson Rifle
Chuck Luetkemeyer-  64    9? Krag-Jorgenson Carbine
Brian Bauer -            48     9? Krag-Jorgenson

Blackpowder Rifleman

Len Ables                 44       Spencer

None of us scored the necessary 85% to qualify for a marksman bar.

Now everybody get back to the line for more practice.
