Its hard to imagine how your rifle which is certainly not a black hills model wound up chambered in the rare 45-60.  Perhaps a Black Hills barrel was used to rebarrel your action.

Sorry for the delay in getting back, the gun has been sitting in the safe as I have been doing other projects. The barrel is new, why some one has used a short case I don't know. I have sorted a load with 4759 and a 298 grn LFN and it is showing promise. I believe this barrel suffers the same issues as the Italian made cartridge guns I have anything to do with when loading BP for them. They need a larger diameter projectile than used for Nitro. Typically a projectile straight from the mould lubed and loaded work.
Will get around to testing it with BP again in the new year.

Mike; I try to avoid sizing cast bullets for rifles, if at all possible. If it will chamber try it. I apply SPG with my fingers and load to a length where the bullet just touches the leade. Don't size the cases excessivly, and just bell enough to start the bullet by hand before seating with the press. No need to crimp for a single shot rifle. Your mileage may vary, but only change one thing at the time when fine tuning the load. There I go again, trying to teach an 'Ol Timer new tricks. ;)

Merry Christmas to all Pards especilly those in the Aunty Podes.

Sir Charles, less of the old ;D. I agree with all and will be implementing. I need the weather to cool down a bit before casting and heads. New Years day here and hot and sunny. Hope you have a great 2018.

That looks like a Parts Unknown Borchardt type sight.  Excellent sights, made in the Ukraine.  I had one on a Sharps,  Parts Unknown is now Red River, but the sight has not been imported since the troubles in the Ukraine.
Civilize them with a Krag . . .

Yup . . . Parts Unknown long range tang sight (now Red River Sights). I have one on a Rolling Block and one on a 74 Sharps. Easy to adjust as well as being easily re-settable to previous ranges with accuracy . . . assuming you took notes or have a good memory. The hooded front sights are good, too. My RB has one w/ a spirit level and the Sharps has one w/ spirit level and is windage adjustable. I like both set-ups.

The front sight ha the spirit level and can be set to return too zero. The ladder can be read from both sides which you don't see on many sights. I see the do a replacement for the old Lyman tang as well, which I would like to get.
