HAPPY NEW YEARS!!!

From Las Vegas and our house.  It's a beautiful night here, clear, cool, big round moon shining directly overhead.  The "Strip" fireworks show was spectacular as usual; we watched it on the TV, couldn't see it from our house because we're about none miles away, but I opened the back door, and we could definitely hear it.

Gonna try to ease into the new year as quiet as I can.

Y'all have a good New Years Day and year to come.

Later.

Good morning, and Happy New Year, Y'all!

Speaking of Happy New Year, who woulda thought that simple phrase could cause an evening full of drama? My sister tried to call me last night, while I was out in the leather shed, just to wish me a Happy New Year. Well, being out in the middle of nowhere, cell service is sketchy at best. And being in a metal shed in the middle of nowhere, it is pretty none existent. Unless the phone is right next to the door, it just searches for a signal until it finds one, or the battery drains... which is when she got through to me. A quick hi, let my son say hi, and it died. She thought I had hung up, and wasn't answering her calls. She then went on a rampage, calling my wife at work several times (Who was in the middle of trying to keep a patient from dying), and took to the Facebook, which I don't do. Do I need to mention that she is BatS**t crazy?

I agree

Watching the Rose Bowl... Army Band singing the Stars Spangle Banner, the B2 flyover then Rockets Red Glare... the TV announcer saying, no matter how many times he see’s it, it never gets too old.  I agree it made the hairs on my arm stand at attention.

Was 14 when i left for Mens Bible Study this morning... i was the only one that did not remember, we reconvene next Tuesday.
Came home and began fesding livestock. Pulled up to Chicken house. Seen something along fence i thought was trash. So i went to get it. Found it was one of my Hens, stuck between the fence snd a extra stock panel. Apparently she could not turn around. Pretty week and of course cold but alive.  On top of this she has had bad feet since birth. I should have culled her then, but am getting soft in my old age.  I am not sure she will make it. But she is in the Henhouse now. Wife says bring her in the house.  I may later when i haul water out.
First i head to town for therapy.

The reason you don’t see hundred car pileups in the south. Is because they are smart enough to stay home when it is crappy out. Nothing opens so there is no reason to go out.  I did notice my neighbirs are not wearing their shorts this week.  Infact i think one actually had a coat on. ;)

up... hot water on side stove. Hep ya’self’s....

Thank you Slim

BTW the hen survived and gave us egg before we returned her to the hen house.

Therapy this morning.. i am trying to wear out the treadmill... but look like a fat hamster in his wheel. Just not as fast... joking aside in a few weeks i have gone from a 5 minute session at a 1.5 mph to 3 mph and a 3% grade for 20 minutes. Now of course i am using their oxygen supply at 6 litres ... mine only go to 5 and i then run the tanks down till i have to refill.  But it has helped me get the most out of them. I am refilling some now and enjoying some Black Rifle Coffee.

Eastern cold and the Berry College Eagle laid her first egg about a hour ago. BTW it was on this date last year she laid her first egg also.

Today i got in to Academy Sporting Goods.  Finally found a suitable  replacement folding knife.  A Kershaw Oso Sweet model.  https://kershaw.kaiusaltd.com/knives/knife/oso-sweet. I got for 10 bucks less than here.  I always like there knifes but tend to loose them.  This out of the package is razor sharp. Have cut paper to test - opened a bale of hay- cut my thumb- and shaved some hair off my arm. Still razor sharp, the open assist is lighting fast and the blade lock works good as does pocket clip.

Backin business with that issue

Captain, try a large glass or two of ice tea late in the evening.....works for me for a "refill the wood stove" alarm.

Delmonico: I've got the brace to go with those, but most of the bits are nowhere to be found. Use it with modern spade bits for drilling fence posts for hanging gates and other things far from electric.

Kids were rummaging about in some of my tools, came up with my old corner brace; couldn't figure it out.  I got out one of my regular ones, and some various bits and augers, and we played around with them; they were most amazed at one of my long augers, a 9/16" x 36".  Regaled them with a few stories of building power lines the old fashioned way.

1. A Universal 30cal.  Carbine , new manufacture , I looked and handled, nice but too costly @ $989.
2. A S&W Bodyguard in 380  w/ Crimson Trace @ $349. I though not a bad price...nice CC

Gun show today in New Bern but it's too cold to mess with it. I don't really have any disposable income until I get Christmas bills caught back up. Good news is that the house was paid off November 30 so it shouldn't take too long.
When I was cutting wood years ago I would always cut up the stuff that others would leave behind. Some guy would cut down a nice oak and just take the straight trunk and leave the top. I'd cut it as long and as big around as I could carry to my trailer. When I couldn't cram any more on it id carry it home and pile it up. Then I would cut stove length pcs off the pile at my convenience and stack it up. I hardly split anything. If I wanted a break I'd just go into the house. Always killed me where guys would cut and split in the woods and then stack it in the back of a pickup nice and pretty. It had to be handled again to make their drying stack. Don't handle anything any more than you have to.

Had to jump the Beast this morning. Got a new battery after we went to store toy.

This is the store of what followed me home from the toy story. A 95 year old man brought it in to sell on consignment. He said he carried it in WWII. I came with the holster he carried it in. The holster in not usable but I will hang it on the wall.
It is a 1911A1 Colt Commercial model made in 1931. According to my research, some Commercial models were used to fulfill the Military contract during WWII. The frame and slide, which have matching serial numbers, have been refinished with a gray-green parkerizing. The barrel seems to be a replacement.

I disassembled and cleaned it. The ejector rod and thumb safety plunger were rusty. I cleaned the rust off it.
It has an arched mainspring housing. My other 1911's have straight mainspring housings. It will take a bit to get used to it. BTW, the Colt has a heavier trigger pull than my Rock Island milspec.

How to get your hands on a historic M1911 pistol from the US Army stockpile...

sorry the link is not attaching. It was on the Fox.com news link yesterday. If i can figure it out later i will correct it.

The whole story

How to get your hands on a historic M1911 pistol from the US Army stockpile

By Allison Barrie  |  FoxNews.com
Published January 5, 2018

Americans will soon have the rare opportunity to get their hands on a historic military gun.

Only American citizens can purchase one of these World War II combat pistols, the M1911, from the U.S. Army stockpile. And only one can be purchased a year by a qualified buyer.

The 1911 is one of the most sought-after popular handgun models in the country. The legendary pistol entered service more than a century ago, and was used in World War I. Most of the vintage handguns in storage were made before 1945.

President Trump is expected to soon sign off on a bill greenlighting the Army to make available for sale a limited number of these M1911s to American civilians.

For several decades, these surplus U.S. military handgun stockpiles have been hidden away in storage out of the public eye.

Reveal: What’s inside the gun crates?

Which 1911s are in the crates? It’s an exciting mystery. The exact pistols will not be revealed until the crates are soon opened.

From Colt to Springfield Armory, the M1911 was made by a range of American gunmakers. There will also be a full spectrum available, ranging from brand spanking new pistols to ones with visible battle scars.

This is a special chance to own a famous pistol with a unique story behind each dent and scratch. You could purchase a 1911 that was used on the front lines by a brave American soldier.

No matter the maker or condition, this is an exciting opportunity for civilians and military members alike.

Limited Release

The Army will make these surplus pistols available through the government-chartered Civilian Marksmanship Program or CMP.  The release will be limited to only several thousand in 2018. Your best chance to get one is to be prepared and ready to act.

The CMP spent a lot of time working out how to best fairly sell the pistols.

All that’s needed is President Trump’s signature, signing the bill into law and the handguns will be released – that’s your signal to jump into the fray to try to nab one. Head over to CMP’s website to get in the action for the rollout.

Once CMP receives 10,000 orders, the would-be purchaser names will be loaded into a “Random Number Generator” and each person will be assigned a number.

So here’s everything you need to know to be ready to move quickly, get your paperwork in and be one of the lucky few to own a piece of meaningful military history

The 1911 Backstory

This pistol was used by the U.S. Army for about 75 years. A variant of the M1911 is still by the U.S. Marine Corps.

Back in 1911, the U.S. military chose the M1911 as the standard-issue sidearm for the forces. The iconic single- action, semi-automatic weapon remained the official sidearm until 1986 when it was replaced by the Beretta M9. It is chambered for the .45 ACP cartridge and magazine fed.

In recent weapons news, the Army changed sidearms, replacing the Beretta M9 with the new Sig Sauer MHS, Modular Handgun System.

Inside the Crates

The exact nature of the pistols that will be released remains unknown. In the crates, there will certainly be Colt 1911s – but what else?

It would be tremendously exciting if they open the crates and discover the ultra-rare and highly sought after Singers. If so, those most likely will be auctioned in a special process by CMP based on past methodology.

There could also be pistols made by Remington Rand, Springfield Armory, Ithaca, UMC, Union Switch & Signal and North American.

The pistols will not all be in the same condition. There will most likely be some in pristine, mint condition – but this is also a special opportunity to hold in your hand a 1911 with character bearing the marks of accompanying a brave U.S. soldier through his service and sacrifice for our country.

There will be very high demand competing for a very limited number ranging between 16,000 and 20,000 will be up for sale over the next two years.

In the future, it is expected another possible 70,000 or so may eventually become available.

Who can buy them?

There are rules for who CMP can sell firearms to. For starters, only to Americans. You need to be a U.S. citizen or you are out of luck.

You also need to meet the federal and state-level firearm criteria to legally buy a firearm. These criteria include being at least 18 years old and passing a background check.

Next, you need to fall within the guidelines
Active-duty service member, reservist, National Guardsman, veterans and CMP’s “special affiliates” members are all eligible to purchase one.

Special affiliate members are folks who belong to congressionally chartered veterans service organizations and professional organizations like the Fraternal Order of Police.

So if you don’t fall within those categories then you need a membership with a CMP-affiliated club. These can be found across the United States and often membership will set you back around $20 to $30.

How can you buy one?

Get ready in advance so you’re poised to strike and nab one.

You’ll need a copy of a U.S. birth certificate, passport or any other official proof of citizenship. For military IDs, E5 and above can be used.

To prove you meet age requirements, you can use that same proof of identification if it details your birthdate.

Make sure you have proof ready that you fall within the guidelines. You’ll need to provide proof of membership in a CMP-affiliated organization like a membership card or CMP Club Member Certification Form.

You also need to provide proof you know how to safely handle firearms and are familiar with shooting range safe conduct.

If your state has any other documents required to purchase a handgun then that paperwork needs to be included as well.

There is also a specific 1911 form that needs to be filled in. You can find a complete list of all the requirements, the mail order process, CMP organizations and all other relevant details on the CMP website.

How much?

Once the crates are opened by CMP they will inspect, grade, and value everything to determine the prices.

Baltimore Ed, I've been cutting up dead elm trees that were growing beside the slough beside my field. Cut up the tops as small as 1", and haul directly to the porch for burning. Since elm is soooo hard to split, when I get to the point where it's too big for the stove, then I pile up the rest for when I can get the use of a log splitter. Sometimes I cut and haul the big pieces, and sometimes I use the tractor to skid them to a big pile to cut and split later. Also been cutting up thorn trees and stacking them to dry for future use. Since I cut on my own place, I never bother to neatly stack every last bit of wood I can get in the truck. Just chuck it in there till I get tired.

Spent most the day in the basement.  Had a bad spot in the wood of the Cowboy Veg-O-Matic, spent over an hour chiseling it out and inletting a piece, don't look bad, on the bottom anyway.

Had a couple old shingling hatcets with dangerous handles, got several of those 16 oz junk drawer type claw hammers with good handles that became donors.  Both now fitted, one sanded and stained, other still has rasp marks.   Will both wedge them and epoxy them in.  Heads soaking in vinegar salt solution to remove rust.  Didn't have white, had cider, should have added dill. ;D

Small thin one will get a knife type edge, other will get normal edge.  Got desperate a couple years ago and had to make kindling one morning at 4 am with my meat cleaver in the rain.  This is a better solution.

Fingers are a blackish purple from rust removal project.  Gonna soak in the tub and see if it comes off and get the oak and hickory dust off me.

Coffees on. My wife had a good night and woke up feeling good. She had her first cup and has faded out in her recliner.  It's 45 degrees and foggy, but will be in the 60s later today. Snows gone out of my yard but now it's a mud hole. My grandson finally went back to school today!! He's been 1 full day and two 1/2 days since New Years. How in the world are they going to get edumacated if they don't go to school is beyond me. Our school system gets totally paranoid when the white stuff falls and things freeze.
I've started a redo of my reloading room. I am removing a bookcase, a file cabinet full of family photos/documents and will move and expand the loading bench 24 inches wider. I've been reorganizing too. Americans have too much stuff and this is after a big pare down after our  house flood. Y'all have a better day. I've gotta go let the Cletus out. Photo of his younger self.

Didn't know dinosaurs had flip phones. ::)

About 5F here, WC about -15F will spend the time before work tomorrow in the basement, got an ax to grind.

Shingling hatcets are done, reshaped couple handles off of a couple 16 oz junk drawer claw hammers.

Double bit is a 3 1/2 pound farmer type, seen some abuse, all fixable.  No name on the head I can find. Gonna do it up right, shorter side will be angled for spitting, longer side is getting even more of a shallow angle for chopping and will eget an almost razor edge.

Will have to buy a handle but have raw material for other projects,   Going to see if a friend can set me up  with a hickory log  about 4 feet long to split blanks out of and put in the shed attic to cure.   A project for next winter is going to be a shaving horse for the front porch. Ought to really make the neighbors wonder. ;D

I am going to need one more piece to fill in the gap I made but they don't have any more. I'm probably going to get a piece made by a kitchen counter contractor. No electric pressure cooker here. Still using the one I inherited from my Mom. A Presto one, needed a new gasket a few years ago, and it was still available. I'm not sure just how old it is, but I still have the booklet that came with it, and it has instructions for using on a wood stove. Don't really need any more electric gadgets in this house, since it still has the electric system they installed whenever the co-op first brought electric to the area. Whole house was on 4 circuits. I added one more with an old one circuit fuse box so we could run a space heater in the bedroom without flipping the breaker every time someone used the toaster.

Roo, I don't use my pressure cooker for anything but canning. Just looking inside it doesn't inspire confidence to put food directly in it, although maybe some application of vinegar to clean out the lime scale might help.

Slim, I have "real" bayonets for the Lebel and Gras, and a fake  "repro" that fits the '03 and probably also the Krag, but fit in this case is a relative term. As in, I managed to file and weld enough to get it to latch on, but it's pretty wobbly and might not stay on if shooting ball ammo. It did stay on for shooting GAF cast loads. Also, the Trapdoor has one, it's a rod bayonet model.

I’d like one for a AR. Just to have not that I’d ever recover any of my firearms from the terrible canoeing mishap on Lake Anna.

Got one of those AR-type bayonets, got it given to !email a few years ago.  Figure it's my bug out knife if I ever decide to bug out.

Got first coat of oil on the hatchets tonight, went Yuppie and dug underthe bench and found my bottle of Walmart rapeseed oil ala CANOLA oil or as I call it, Canuck revenge.  A little slower drying than linseed oil, but much more water proof.  Saw the other day Homeless Depot has pints of drier, may have to go back and buy a can to spearmint with.

Need some fiber dics to grind on double bit with.  Stopped at the local real hardware store and my favorite old phart was there.  Always talk to the old phart at the hardware store, they know stuff the kids never imagined.

ST - A local collector was liquidating mostly AR's , Ruger Mini 14's and pump Shotguns...
But he did have this Arsenal refurbished Berthier M1892 Artillery carbine Manufacture d'Armes de Chatellerault ,  w/ bayonet still in cosmoline probably done in the 1930's or 50's stored & un-used since .
Chamber was packed with the stuff , as was the bolt & wood under the barrel.

I found the 3 round clips on EBay , bought Prvi Partizan Label rounds, the little gun KICKS like an Arkansas Mule !
I've slugged it @ .329 and will reload with and shoot lead.

I'm sure it is stamped US, but won't swear to it. It is one of the newer 70's models, with plastic furniture and that funky safety feature in the lever. It isn't as sweet as the older models with wood, but it is still a trusty rifle.

That is not the case, it is a plain 30-30 lever gun, no lug.

@ Delmonico, a lot of these were made in the late 60's- 70's with plastic. I hate it. But, trying to buy wood for it would cost me more than I paid for the rifle. Go figger.

As for cost about $35 should get you a plain walnut 2 piece stock blank off E-Bay.  Just takes simple tools after that.

Greetings, ladies and germs.  I have returned.  Sort of.

Yeah, my computer went greasy side up on the first.  So I've been using my fancy smart phone for internet things for the past two weeks.  I couldn't find my password for this site, though, so I've been watching from the outside.  I found my password tonight.

Really, not much has happened in California.  We're getting rained on today, and for the past two weeks.  Not enough to really show up in the rain gauge, but enough to get annoying.
Temps have been in the 50s during the day, and low forties at night.  Good weather for walking the dog, so long as you don't mind getting wet.

Tomorrow I can turn in an application for a new job.    The county road department has a position open for a "Road Maintenance Worker", ie, hold the Stop sign and drive a snow plow.  With my experience, I would be getting roughly $13.10/hr, and I'll get my class A CDL by Summer.  It's a benefited position, too. I have a friend on the 'inside' too, so that should help.

Update on project double bit.

Both sides and the top and bottom are ground and draw filed. One side is almost polished, still a few marks to get out.  When that is done I will sharpen both ends.

The long end will get a low angle sharp one for chopping and the shorter one will get a steeper one for splitting.

Need to shop for a handle, will try to find one with nice grain since I will strip the varnish off, stain it and oil it.

Evening all.

Weather was 50f and sprinkles today.  To the dog in for her rabies shot, so now she has a new tag for her troubles.  I am sure she appreciates the prize.

There's a wannabe chili in the crock pot right now.  No beans, but I used a bell pepper, and added mushrooms and serrano. Should be good, though.

In the vein of cutting implement restoration, I'm working on a tomahawk right now.  It's a cheap one I got about ten years ago for throwing, and I thought I'd lost it.  But, I found it in the shed last week, so now in fixing it.  The head was rusted, and the edge had a bunch of dents in it, so I cleaned that up and put a good sharp edge on it.  The handle is splintering, so I'm working on shaping a new one from a sycamore branch.  I'm doing it totally by hand, using the tomahawk head for rough shaping, and using my belt knife as a draw knife for the finer parts.  So far, I've got the had about 5" up the new handle.  Only 16" more to go.  I'd post a picture, but the site limits to 400k(600?)kb, and my phone takes 4mb pictures.  :-\

Coffee is hot.  Outside is cold...Houston is shut down for the freezing weather.  The city and county services are not equipped to handle icy conditions, and chaos amongst 5 million people is a bad thing, particularly on the roads.  Yesterday, just east of Houston and the San Jacinto River Bridge, I-10 was shut down for hours (major accident, likely a fatality), and there were miles of cars for "parked" on the interstate.  Today, most if not all schools are closed.  Businesses are closed, and there is a threat of rolling black outs on residential power.  I'm (trying to) work from home, as all "non-essential" personnel were asked to stay home....didn't have to tell me twice!

The coffee is on, and it is hot. Outside, it is cold and the s*** is flying. I haven't ventured out of camp yet, but I am willing to bet the whole area is shut down. I am also willing to bet, there isn't any milk or bread to be found. These Georgia crackers are an odd lot. Whenever it s***s, they freak out, and make s*** sandwiches.

15 here, high unknown

Too cold to play outside. Will run some errands - maybe do a pantry stocking..
last couple days the dogs have spent little time outside. The two stick in your pocket size don’t like ourdoors unless we go with them. The 2 shepards normally don’t care even in rain. However the 2 together, don’t think 10 acres is not enough land. In a short while they will be down the road playing in the runoff ditch. So one at a time unless we are going out with them. This morning as the past few it’s  do their business and back to the house.  I guess i will have to do the coyote patrol on my own.  Or buy a donkey.

@ roo, I hear ya. I have 25 acres, and my pack of thugs had to go and play everywhere BUT our land. Of course, I never heard coyotes when they were running at night. I did hear a whole lot from them though, as they were terrorizing every dillo, possum, raccoon. We also have a pocket pup too, but he was just born runty. He won't go outside under his own free will, regardless of the weather. As if being a runt wasn't bad enough, his left eye just went milky one night. Doesn't stop him from thinking he's a big dog though. It is funny watching this Guinea pig sized mutt growl and go after the big dogs. Of course, they aren't amused, and put him in his place but fast!

We got snow again last night, 2-3 inches but it's alot warmer than the last snow and bitterly cold snap. It'll be all gone by Saturday. I got my bench done, even made some more storage in it and was able to reuse some cubicle desk material to fill in the void that I created when things got moved around. I still have to mount my O press to the wall (where my lee bulge buster lives.) I run all my .45acp through it so that it works in all my .45acp 1911s, revolvers and carbines.

We got the flu shot too. Apparently, it may only help keep you from getting the full brunt of the bug. Kinda like hiding behind a sheet of glass when being shot at  ::) It also is showing a lot of false negatives when getting swabbed. The strain we have is A, which is the one responsible for numerous deaths.

There are both schools of thought... My wife won't get one.... in the 30 years + 2 days we've been married SHE has never had the FLU.
nor will she get the shot...

I been laid low with it,  2 major bouts once in 1976 and again in 91 ...minor lighter cases a few times.
.... I thought it prudent getting the shot the last few years , the first time,  I did get a mild reactionary case...

This is not the flu though  :-\.... pretty sure its just a MOTHER of head cold .... No waves of fever & wipe out like flu does.

Just a running nose that could beat Kyle Busch on his best day, no chest congestion (yet) & feels like water is in my ears.
I had worse sore throat and my nose is red as beet & sore from honk'n' my hooter.

Fighting with all the tools I have on hand , ZICAM® spurted up in my nose ,  Tylenol & Mucinex  coursing through my veins.

Gonna drown it in Chicken Broth tonight ....

Sorry for those with the grunge, I am so far avoiding it.  Flu shots caused me a lot of consternation way back in the last century; company dictated that all employees had to get a flu shot every year to cut down on excessive use of sick time.  Every year, I'd get sicker than a dog about two weeks after getting the shot, and have to take off work, sometimes for a week or more.  And, every year, I'd get a disciplinary letter about using too much sick leave.  So, I started refusing the shot, and got in trouble for that - but I stopped getting sick and using sick time.  I had a heated discussion with my boss about it, he threatened to suspend me if I didn't get the shot, and I pointed out the facts of the past few years to him, and he knuckled under.  When I retired, I had almost two years of accumulated sick leave on the books; was on sick leave, and got all of the raises and bennies dues me, even though I never went to work.  When I ran out of sick time, they let me retire.

Weather here is cool, cloudy, and for us, winter like.  It rained pretty good one day last week, and the prognosticators are saying it might do it again in the next day or so.  Can't wait for spring and warm sunny days again.

Sorry to hear that, Del. I'll be praying for the family.

Had to do a repair on a zone valve tonight. Temp in the house was 75. Thermostat was set at 68. It was stuck open. The zone valve control was the problem. I replaced it with a spare. Temp is dropping.

I like wheel guns as a carry and the J frame suit me fine , I have a nickel Model 36 in 38 Special... Like the SS Mod.60 and the option of .357.

Roo,I picked up a S&W Model 60-7 late last year for $315.00 out the door, Has a 3 inch barrel. It's marked "Lady Smith" on the side plate. I picked it up for my Mom to have. The deals are out there,Just have to keep looking.I thought Arcey preferred the K frame revolvers? I would have loved to have one of his Model 19 snub nosed revolvers. Still can't believe he's gone.

Looks like this

Roo   I agree with the good "other" Major  :)

They can be had,  mine is 60-14 with a 2.1 " barrel .... Standard with Rubber grips ( Ladysmith has the wood )

I paid $400 out the door.
It was purchased new in 2002 by the PO, he also had a 25 Round box of Hornady .357 Magnum, JHP/XTP,  he bought with, it was missing just 5 rounds.  EDIT: I forgot to mention, he traded it in for a Ruger LC9S
He said he shot those , and didn't care for the recoil... it has sat in his dresser drawer since  :o

My nickel Mod 36 is no dash pre-lock came with diamond rosewood grips, I added the Walnut Classic grips several years ago.

For pocket holster carry, the 60's rubber grips will be replaced with similar for no drag or snags. I load the 36 with Hornady Critical Defense 38's ....the 60 will get the same.

I do have 3" Mod 36 in Blue....actually my wife has it  :-\

The wad didn't exit the bbl on the first and came out on the second. Haven't had a blooper in a long time. I'll try another box of my reloads tomorrow. I also put 25 through my Thunder Ranch N frame .45 acp.

Shot 20 of my 12 ga reloads at today's match with no bloopers but I used my 97 instead of the Marlin.

Evening all.  Thought I might check in.

Not much has gone on in the land of gold and government since last I was here.  We've had about 8" of that white stuff total, six of which was last night.  We've determined that my dog doesn't like plow trucks, and that chickens will try to dust bathe in fresh s**w.  I also had the pleasure of carrying a pair of tire chains for almost 2 miles and 1000 vertical feet to rescue a Ford Ranger.  Good times.

And to top that all off, I've got some sort of sickness going on, complete with cough, muscle soreness, headache and 101 fever.  Lucky me.

Now if y'all will excuse me, I'm going to drink some tea and turn in for the night.

Glad some of you are feeling better. I'm having good days and bad. Everytime I start feeling better, it comes back. Power through, got leather that needs to go! Speaking of, my buddy at the hunting store got a new gun, and wants me to do a full on "cool" western holster for it. As we finish talking about the details, I spot an AK on the wall. Always wanted one, know next to nothing about makes. It is a well used Norinco, he wants $399 for it. Gunbroker has them going for $1500 and up. He says he's flexible. I said this is the kind of thing that might get his holster to the front of the line :)

That's one "black" rifle I wouldn't mind having. Never have handled one, but I did get to qualify with the German H&K when I was stationed in Germany. Shot really nice, but then I never had to carry it anywhere. I know they're not identical, but still similar layout.

Just the one Black gun in my safe.... Less you count the Glock 17 I won  :-\  or my UZI

Bought it ( like so many did ) figuring the bias liberal news media...might just be right  :o  and "Hildegard the horrible"  might be swept in to office.
Its a M4 in 5.56 NATO

My black rifle is actually OD in 300 BO. Unless you count my 3 ARs in .45 acp. No plastic pistols though, a man's got to have some standards. Just steel and walnut if you please. Been raining all day but warm. Coffees been good.
We had 17 shooters at our monthly matchy yesterday, a big crowd for us. 6 duelists, the rest gamers using 2 hands. I was going to go in my pinstripes as we used snubnoses in 3 scenarios but it turned cold so I wore my new RNWMP tunic and shot new services. Also shot my 66 musket again. Clean with it but dropped a few with my snub and 4 inch NS. I got challenged to drag out my vaqueros and shoot SAs next month so between now and then I'll have to limber up the Ol' thumb.

Major, Wow, that's a real big BUT, but I agree, you can't beat free. I pulled a Uberti .45 3.5 inch Thunderer out of the prize bucket at the NE Regional sass shoot in Thurmont, MD years ago. The real nice one with the checkered grips. I felt that I had won already so the actual match was a just another match that I didn't stress over at all. A real pretty chunk of steel and Italian? walnut. Are there walnut trees in Italy?
I do have a pair of plastic Pointer Pup 'stag' grips on one of my 1950s Colt Woodsmans. Seemed appropriate.

Only plastic gun I have is brown and got it for Christmas in 1976 before plastic guns were cool.

Off today and tomorrow,  came up to eat egg and cheese sandwich and fried cabbage, wife is on here own.  Being banished to the basement again.  She's watching old reruns, guess it's touched y an angel, not hot up side the head by one.

Got oldies rock and roll on down there, maybe they'll play that AC/DC song.  ;D. Yes, I have a hand basket down there.

I have 2 "plastic" guns currently, newest is my Ruger LCP carry gun, the other is an H&K I inherited. Back in the late80's or early 90's all the gun magazines were raving about the H&K P-7 "Squeeze cocker" and my Dad thought he just had to have one, and wound up with the wrong gun, an (I think, it's somewhere in the back of the safe) VP70-z, the first plastic pistol issued to a military(Germany). It's a BLOWBACK 9mm with a humongous heavy slide, and a really heavy DAO trigger. Only worse handling pistol I've ever shot was a Russian Nagant that I didn't have enough finger strength to make it go bang in DA.

The only plastic pistol I have is my Ruger SR9c which has become my EDC gun. I used to carry a full size 1911 or Browning HiPower, But with the stupid laws in this state, I figure if I can only carry 10 rounds in the magazine, I'll carry a gun made for it. It doesen't hurt that it's a lot lighter and doesn't aggravate my back pain. So now I carry a lighter gun with a total of 31 rounds of 9mm 115 grain +P+ ammo.

All this talk about plastic and holsters...I'm going to have to make a hybrid carry holster for my one an only plastic gun....Taurus PT111 9 mm.  A recent purchase that I'm quite happy with....$252 out the door.  Goes bang, pretty much hits where I want it to out to 20 yards, and concealable.  BUT, it has not filled my "need" for a big bore DA/SA revolver...I've been thinking hard about a Taurus Tracker in 44 mag, or a S&W Model 69...of course, I'll use heavy 44 sp loads for SD.

A buddy of mine had several of the Taurus revolvers in different cals and frame sizes. Nice revolvers. I like my Anaconda .45 and my N frame Smiths in .45 acp better though, 625s rule, imo. Good hunting.

My moms father was German. Last name Frohlich. Ate a lot of good German food growing up. Good stuff. We had tentative plans of a German trip but my wife's stroke ended that. At least we got to Ireland with my best friend and his wife before Lola fell apart. And my last 4 dogs were Weimaraners. They're from Germany. This is the current version, Cletus, a good ol dog. He's gotten alot greyer in the muzzle since this pix.

I'm not sure what grips I would want for an N-frame, my .41Mag has a set of Pachmyer rubber ones now, and they're a bit too thin for my taste, but the wood Magna grips that S&W put on it were too big for my hands.

Went to see my buddy at the hunting store, and check out his new pistol. He was so excited, at getting a S&W 357... that he overlooked where it clearly said "Taurus, Made in Miami". All and all, still a nice looking chrome pistol, and it fits the hand well. So, I promise to make him a nice holster and matching belt, and got a deal worked out for the AK47. AND there was fresh fried chicken at the WallyMart! Good afternoon :)

I go a different way , I removed to OEM Rubber/Plastic grips on my new Model 60.

The Model 36 has been my CCW 8 years now ( pocket carry ) the Grips are S&W Classic Walnut .
The Model 60 has been fitted with Altamont walnut.

I don't plan to many .357 loads thru the 60  ....both get Hornady Critical Defense.

I do have a model 60 in 38 special with Pachmayr grips...technically, it isn't mine.  It belongs to my former mother-in-law.  She left it with me when she moved from TX to MA...I've had it for over 10 years!  It is a nice gun...smooth action...just wish it was rated for 38 +P.

Major, I think this is one of the early models.  It is a 5 shot ~ 2" bbl, and will fit in my front pocket, so I think it is the J frame.
The only place that I see a model number on it is on the frame under where the crane locks.  The markings on the bbl say 38 SP, unlike more recent models that I see marked as 38 SP +P.

21 this am. At least the wind and rain have quit. Suns out bright so I just put 60 rds of 3 year old .45 reloads through my vaqueros. Had a couple of rds that sounded a little different but all went bang, 2 misses?  Stealth bullets no doubt. Duelist naturally. Tried some point shooting with both eyes open. New idea for me. Aiming slows you down I think. Tomorrow is supposed to be 50+ so I'll load em back up tonight and do some more then. I am going to back off my load slightly as arthritis has done a number on my middle finger's knuckle and these vaqueros try to rap it.
