Good to see you, Roo. And to answer the question, I didn’t do so great at the ditch thing. Ended up in one today. Was able to fanoodle my way out via judicious application of American Horsepower (or as American as a 2018 Dodge pickup can be).  As soon as I got out, a snow plow went in behind me, followed by a school bus. Nobody hurt, but that’s when I decided that it was 5 o’clock somewhere and called it a day.

Weather wise, we got about 8” of white in the valley today, with a high of 31. More of the same tomorrow.

Came home from the Museum, 7pm and dark to see my wife with all the garage lights on.
She was standing about 10 feet from the double doors holding an 8' bent curtain rod, something akin to a C shape  ???
I asked "what are U doing"  ?

She say's  :o " SNAKE ... big SNAKE , DON"T Drive in there ! "

20 some years wife got a call from a coworker friend of her wanting to know if I was home and if so could I come and evict/kill/run off a big snake in her garage. She had tossed a box over it and was watching to make sure it stayed there.  So I got my cane to pin it and a cloth draw string bag big enough to hold a big bull snake or northern water snake, both who can have bad attitudes. Anyway I moved the box and wrestled this 9 or so inch Prairie Kingsnake into my bag.

Since the make good captivity snakes my neighbor who worked for schools took it to the Jr High he worked at and last I knew Mr Snek was happy and well fed and had growed some.

Made it to Church today, but by the time it was over my back was growling. So will listen to the Afternoon Service on the Conference Phone line. Del glad you're better.

I know too well about back pain... I too, rode too hard and so often put up wet.
Then there in the knee(s) choose one, it's a toss-up between one or the other or both at the same time !

Hope you get relief, quickly

On the serpent hunter front, SHE "whom shall be obeyed"
went to Walmart after snake repellent ( didn't know there was such a thing).
Apparently, there is and it is pricy, she came home with Lime  ???

Then there are Outdoor Solar Ultrasonic Snake Repeller - $49.97 $99.97   :-X

I've yet to see this guy in the skin just a photo SHE took, Southern Water Snake it seems

 Greetings all.

More white stuff through the weekend on through tomorrow. About all there is to say weather wise. It’s Montana in the winter. ::)

My weekend was spent in Great Falls for the monthly giving of time to Uncle Sam. They held the unit Christmas party on Saturday, but my whole flight was excused for having helped arrange chairs. We took the opportunity to go bowling. I also acquired a cold from somewhere which has been less than pleasant.

On the topic of snakes: we once had a 5 foot prairie rattler get in the hanger at the Guard base. They were going to call a local “snake wrangler” to come get it, but instead someone just ran it over with a scissor lift and that was that.

I fell down a lot rescuing that diner. We’ll just say the crew that runs the diner has a maintenance department with a single brain cell between them, and nobody brought it to work today. ::)

For reference, their method of snow removal is to spray the parking lot with a garden hose. Works out great when it’s below freezing.

My counterpart (other curator) neglected to inform the fact that we had 40 member ROTC group
scheduled for today.
Now normally we co-work on Wednesday, so he just didn't put it in the monthly planner.
Imagine, my surprise, by both that revelation and the fact he was not coming today, switching to * Saturday
(*The big finally to our Pearl Harbor observance)

No real problem, He had scheduled a volunteer docent, and the Kids (High School ROTC Marines) were VERY WELL behaved (remembering what school field trips can be like with eh ! kids today. ::)

I would expect ROTC Marines to be well behaved, but it is still noteworthy of comment.

They were very polite, attentive and grateful... I was impressed :)

One day some of them may be Officers in the Corp.

Like John Saffren's Grandson, a Second Lieutenant in the Marines, from an ROTC program, I know he is proud of him.

I was handed (donation from an American Legion Post) a few interesting items for the museum.
Among them was a salted peanut can of bullets... not many but they were way COOL.

Seven antique- 41 cal. LONG CASE. Headstamped * PETERS 41 LDA and four- 41 cal. short (no headstamp)
all eleven were Centerfire & heel-based bullets

The fellow that donated them " said they thought they were CW era, I told him they were Centerfire
and later mid 1970's or so.
I'm not sure when these were last manufactured, being an obsolete round,
I'm guessing maybe the late 20's or 30's ... course the guns they fit had long since been obsolete."
This can have been sitting around, in storage many years, he had no clue how many nor whom might have brought then to the VFW.

* 41 Long Double Action

The shorts are not head stamped

I'm not sure what I'll do, I really can't have loaded rounds on display (liability)
I may unload them, and maybe put them in the Span-Am exhibit  :-\

I'll post this in the re-loading forum too.

There is widow liquidating her late husband's eclectic collection of antique & Milsurp's.
I believe I had met the gent once, but I had not known of his passing several years ago, I'm told. :(

There were about 6-7 Rifles, Argentine Mauser carbine, Carl Gustave 1905 Mauser, a SKS
a Siamese Mauser, MAS 39, two other bolt guns of the hunting verity.  that's wat I remember anyway.

I was more interested in the two pistols a Savage 1907 in 32 ACP and an Argentine manufactured military 1911.

I had thing for the kewl little Savage and made it home with it .

Be especially vigilant this Holliday season, SCAMMERS are in full ON mode !  >:(

I just got a call from area code 855 ...I know most of the 800 codes 866 etc. but had not seen 855 before.
My phone will screen most as "SCAM Likely" ..but this 855 rang through and posted with the number.
I refused it, but I looked up 855 area location...

most likely CAMBODIA origin thru a US (almost Anyware in the US) exchange,
100% BS call, NO reason except larceny for anyone in Cambodia to call me.

I believe Scamming should be a capital punishment crime, maybe 240 amp's Shot through the phone earpiece...

EDIT  3rd one today this one 844 area code ...

Good morning all, hope you had a nice weekend. 41 here right now supposed to hit 44. 40s til Thursday, then supposed to drop like a rock to single digits for a couple days, then back to normal. Great day at Church yesterday, Christmas Potluck between the services, then the kids did their Christmas program. They did really well and it was a lot of fun, especially when the kid who was supposed to be baby Jesus showed up in a teddy bear suit!

Sounds like my wife might be on the outskirts of that storm.  She called this morning from her sister’s house Edgerton to say they were about to head to their Milwaukee so her sister could get back home before the first wave.  The rest of the family might be having fun getting to Milwaukee for Christmas Eve.  I didn’t want to rub in the fact that here in Reno we will be sunny and pushin’ 50 for the weekend, and I don’t have to go anywhere!  The cats and I’ll have a fire and some hot rum and just “Lax Out”!

Hope you don’t have to do much travelling over the weekend.

It’s cold and snowy here in Montana too. -10, WC -30 in Missoula, according to whatever weather thing is on my phone. -60 up in Seeley Lake. Our high in town was 2, and tomorrow is headed for a balmy -13.

I have tomorrow off from work, since the pumps in the trucks don’t work below 0. They don’t work very well below 32, but they’re passable. -13 is too much for them. I don’t k ow what I’m going to do with myself, other than maybe go to Lowe’s and see if they have any good deals on crow’s foot wrenches.

Afternoon all.

-10 in Missoula for the high today. Windchill averaging -20 out to -35. And I’m about to go out in this junk to feed horses. Wish me luck ::)

Had a relatively productive day, doing things around the house that we haven’t had time for. Also got some good sales at a couple places. One of the local farm and ranch places had horse feed buy one get one, so I got 200lbs (was a pain getting the camper shell open on the truck. Had to use a zippo). Then the other farm and ranch place had Carhartt sweaters on sale for 60% off, so I got one of those (also spent $70 on a bucket there. Apparently heater coils are expensive when placed in a bucket), and at Lowe’s they had the good US made Craftsman tools at varying discounts. So I got the wrenches I was looking for, and a nice 3 drawer carry handle toolbox.

Y’all keep warm out there.

I used to be in charge of cleaning the floors in our home. Today I was fired. My son and his wife bought us a Robot Vacuum Cleaner for Christmas. I always thought that I did a decent job of vacuuming the carpets and cleaning the floors. Mr. Robot ran for an hour and picked up what I missed. It's actually scary what I missed with our regular Vacuum Cleaner. The dern thing docked itself after itself it was finished showing me up.

Not much to report here. Christmas involved a lot more feeding of equestrians than of humans in our house, but that’s pretty normal anyway. Got yesterday off from work and took the opportunity(read: voluntold) to do some cleaning around the house.

Johnny, make sure you don’t leave any popcorn kernels around for the robot dog as they get annoying rattling around in it. I speak from experience.

Things changed, Clone now has the malady that befell her betrothed :( so today's planed day of merriment and mirth has been postponed indefinitely. :(

My wife gave me a nostalgia hotdog (and buns) steamer, which I put to work yesterday for lunch. Steamed to perfection, then added yellow mustard and Sabrett pushcart onion sauce.
It's actually designed to do a dozen hotdogs at a time. but works just as well with a 2-dog noon repass.
I may even do it again today :)

I'm at the Museum tomorrow all day and then again New Year's Eve Day.
Still quite chilly at 44 degrees.

Had to take Rita to her new PT job being a sample lady at Costco today., I have to take the kid to work before Rita gets off.  So left on my own with no supervision and an almost full tank of gas, I decided to go on an adventure because I am being left on my own again tomorrow but am staying home and baking.  I want some homemade whole wheat, normally not a problem but Walmart quit carrying the flour I use, it’s a hard red spring wheat from NE Montana brand name Wheat Montana and their Bronze Chief is a 5% protein fine ground whole wheat flour.  For you non-bakers or those who don’t really study the science of it, that will bake a very light and fluff loaf with out having to add white flour.  Your common 4% stone ground aka coarse ground either bakes bricks, or needs about half white flour added.  Also it can cause problems I need not explain.

Well I decide to run to the SW Walmart in town since it was right there close, I’ll risk the problems because I have pills for that and we buy the other stuff needed in bulk at Costco.
I get to Walmart and after cruising the parking lot several times the only handicap spot that came open some little old lady in a big truck got so since the closest one that wasn’t was way out there on the back lot I would try elsewhere.  There is an Aldi’s down the street but they have no mart carts, and I didn’t have a quarter for the other ones so pass on that.  Went to the fancy mall the other way because they have one of those places Yuppies shop that some guy named Joe owns.  Got a handicap spot (too much ice for much walking) and got in and they had a cart, I had to move the ice melt that they had leaning on it, but it had a full charge.

I eased into the store because I knew there were lots of Yuppies in there and they ain’t smart enough to get out of the way of an old man wearing red plaid jammies and a Carhartt coat. (Remember my plans was Walmart when I left home.)  After several near misses (I didn’t care, I can now pass a drug test) I got over to the sugar, spice baking aisle and found they had no whole wheat flour at all and no empty space for it where I could ask them to check the back room knowing from working retail that if they had it then it would be out, but that’s required when you don’t see it.

Made my way back to the front and the Jeep Car thing, decided a mile east there was a Hy Vee, so headed to 40th, turned south, never found my turn and was in a bunch of look alike houses real soon.  Well remembered that the Hy Vee was down on a crick bottom so turned and decided to head north again and find in, got in the damnedest mess of curved roads and switch backs a drunken dozer drive to lay out and was soon lost, sort of, could not see the big medical building on the corner that was my landmark.  Was about to use my phone to get a silver alert started when I realized something and pushed the bookmark with my address on it and a map came up showing the blue dot wasn't at my house but south of 40th and Pine Lake road and if I followed the switchback to the next corner and turn right it would take me back to the Pine Lake Medical Building I was using as a landmark but there was no Hy Vee there.  Hmm, expanded the map and the Hy Vee was a mile north on 40th and Old Cheney Rd. (The street with that name does not go to Cheney but that’s a different story.)  Close handicap space, go in, one mart cart plugged in, unplug, get on with out falling over and turn it on, so dead even the red light won’t come on.

Ok, their loss, I’ll just go to baking goods instead of cruising and maybe buying lots.  Grab a plastic grocery cart (WTH?) and find baking goods and the only whole wheat they have is white whole wheat, a recent development for people who want whole wheat to irritate their colon but not to taste like red wheat whole wheat.  Well dummies, if I didn’t want it to taste like whole wheat I would just use white, it costs a lot less and I have plenty in stock.  So I left the Hy-Vee and headed on east to go to the big Walmart on Nebraska Highway #2, except a couple weeks ago they opened the new South Beltway that will take Nebraska Highway #2 south of Lincoln and hook up with US Highway #77 and now the part of Nebraska Highway #2 that goes through town is now Nebraska Parkway and has also had the signs changed.

Well the SE Walmart had plenty of handicap parking, and plenty of charged mart carts so I commandeered the nearest one and heading to the baking goods, sugar and spice aisle and found they only had red stone ground whole wheat as expected but not the affordable brand the SW Walmart has but it had King Arthur and Bob’s Red Mill with both way over priced and both only 4% protein.  So I was down to one chance left before I went to another of my sources and got either dark or white rye and not stone ground.

So off to the old Hippie Coop that’s been around since the 70’s and has been de-yuppied since the Whole Foods across town opened up.  Got there, the one handicap place was used but still got close and got a push cart, went to the bulk bins and to the sounds of Stairway to Heaven I bought about 2 pounds of what is a fine ground red spring wheat, should be the same as Wheat Montana or the other from across the border Dakota Maid.   Price was between Arthur and Bob, but cheaper than the net.  Will find out if it’s what I want tomorrow, if I bake a whole wheat brick I will not be happy.

Johnny, make sure you don’t leave any popcorn kernels around for the robot dog as they get annoying rattling around in it. I speak from experience.

I wonder what would happen if Mr. Robot picked up any of my dropped live primers?

I eased into the store because I knew there were lots of Yuppies in there and they ain’t smart enough to get out of the way of an old man wearing red plaid jammies and a Carhartt coat.
Several years ago, my wife had a broken leg during the holidays. I remember taking her Christmas shopping in a wheelchair. Also, she was her father's caretaker and I wheeled him around in a wheelchair for seven years. It's a real shame how rude some people can be. They don't look where there going and walk right into the wheelchair, then they give me a dirty look. After a few dirty looks, they get a nice vulgar response from me.

Steaming hotdogs as I write this, this time I'm doing raw sweet onion slices.
Looking to see if I have any green relish  :-\

In between I am watching " In Harm's Way"...again, good movie but full of anachronisms.

CCI standard primers (ie, not magnum) will sometimes pop. Haven’t had any issues with any others in the vacuums. ;)

Del, I’m pretty sure Wheat Montana does mail order, up to 50lb bags. We have two locations in Missoula, which is where I usually get mine. I am also a fan of the Bronze Chief, and have about 20lbs in the pantry at the moment.

What amazes me is what a lot of people consider trailer trash or what ever at Walmart not only make sure there is room for carts but almost make me feel bad by helping me get stuff.  I could most times walk the whole store but if I get tired there is no place to sit down and those walkers with a seat are a PIA.  Most stores have them and despite their cost they make them money because people like me don't hurry and we see and buy stuff we might not normally buy.

Made it split top/butter top.  Very good, flour is some different, but very usable.   and I can buy it from a local owned business.  But that would lead to a long rant on that subject.  Local owned, local but big corporate owned and way far away and have to order it on-line, the order I do business.  And as I tell people, if you think self checkout causes people to lose jobs, fill out an app and show them you are qualified to work, ain't got not felonies, DWI's in 10 years, can and want to stand 8 hours or more to deal with rude people and do all this for low wages.  Most likely they'll hire you after the back ground check and you get the sales licenses required by law. ::)  I won't, I retired.

I suppose it was declared international day today,
 we had ...
Argentina, China, a fellow from "Nottingham" England * the guy actually lives in Sherwood Forest  :P
a couple from Finland, a gent from Canada and a pair from Wyoming :-X
The Chinese guy spoke NO English, just 'gobby goop" and pointed, I nodded and smiled....  ???

I can dope my way through Espanol', but forget Portuguese  ???, which is what the Argentinean family was yammering... all 8 of them and with twoHOT Girls in tow .... Sisters I'm betting.

The Brit was very cool, with a deep accent, but I got by  ;)

OH! forgot another the two blokes from, The Isle of Jersey who came back again from last Saturday
Seems the Filght's out of where ever were canceled, and never arrived at Orlando, to London or the pilots or some such issue, they spoke in a deep Irish drawl, I'd get a word now and then... ::) they were somewhat stranded perhaps till January :o

But, I'm half deaf, anyway...one guy asked if I ¿Hablas Español?

I replied  "Si un poco "
or maybe mispronounced "un poquito which means "This coffee needs a little bit more sugar."  :-\
He began rattling off at 200 MPH, my bet he's Cuban, they talk very fast...
anyway, I understood a word now and then, he wanted to know the admission and how long it took
(To tour)
He chose to return later, but he didn't  ::)

Morning all.

23, headed for 41 today.

Yesterday was a long one, at 10 hours. 8 hours of cleaning “Astro crappers” followed by 2.5 hours working on a Caterpillar engine. Probably not difficult to guess which part of the day was more enjoyable  ::)

Merry Belated Christmas and a Happy nearly a New Year.

Delmonico - I just read that singer songwriter cowboy, cutting horse enthusiast , Ian Tyson, checked out yesterday. Age 89.  His talents are missed.

The cold has moved on from here and rain is a coming.
Hope you all have a safe weekend.
