Two questions:

First, anyone know the status of the Cimarron replica?  They have been tinkering with that things for years and years.  Never quite seem to get it off the ground however.

Second, what was the relationship between the Merwin Hulbert and the Evans rifle?

Incidentally, Hoch has a bullet mould for the 44MH if anyone is interested.

Couldn't tell you anything on a replica howver.... Merwin & Hulbert were the agent for Evan's - the master distributor if you will.

A good source of info on the Evans is:

"Maine Made Guns & thier Makers" by Dwight Demeritt. ISBN:  0913764043

It can be a bit hard to find but well worth the effort.

   Greetings!

I'd be thrilled to hear about Anyone resurrecting the Merwin&Hulbert. Cimarron, huh? When in my 20's, I passed on a VG/F nickeled OpenTop in .44MH, because I didn't want to ask Dad for a loan; he would've bought that beauty for me & refused to take my money later. Now, I've got a beat up .44-40 OpenTop with the barrel chopped back, and a Indian Dime front sight!
We should initiate a letter writing campaign! I want  My OpenTop!

Cimarron sent a couple of originals to Italy years ago.  I probably ask them about the status of this project one every year or so.  It isn't a high priority item for them.  But it isn't dead either.  You could always e-mail them and ask the status.  If you do I'd appreciate knowing what you find out.  Personally I'm going to wait until next months and talk to them at the Shot Show.

I would be cool if they could make one in .45 Colt too.
