....anyone out there that reproduce these shell holders?
-
I've never seen a repro, but I've always thought it was an interesting design.
-
If someone showed up with one of those at a SASS match, they would have to waive the rule against metal lined loops. ;D
They are very cool. Someone more industrious (and with better tools) than I could probably build one. I'm wondering if a box of Magech brass shotshells would make good donors to be cut up for the holders? Or some sort of thin tubing. Maybe the metal covers that used to go over vacuum tubes?
-
Maybe copper pipe?
-
I believe these metal shellholders are made from spring steel.
Brass or copper tubing would not have enough tension to hold the shells securely.
-
They're spring steel - and they're called 'thimbles'.
They were also short-lived, though you'll see them in old sporting goods/hardware catalogs of the turn of the century.
Scouts Out!

I have shown this to a buddy of mine that makes custom pocket knives. He's thinking thin cold rolled steel? May go over to his shop and take a crack at it.
