Scored a 1888 Trapdoor Rifle a couple of years back
« on: March 28, 2018, 04:54:42 PM »
Tried shooting it and it is all over the place.  Have been working on the Bore pretty hard for the past 2 weeks.  Get clean patches to come out hit it with a brush and bronze wool and filth still comes out.  Assuming I get the bore pretty well clean and free of lead fouling, has anyone out there had success shooting one.  Loads? Powder? Bullets? that seem to work seem to work defined less than 2 MOA groups

Sorry for the rather tardy reply but the answer is yes, ordered it November of 2015 Shortly after I bought the Trapdoor.  Read thru it and stuck it on a shelf to lie forgotten.  Came across your message again today and after about 5 to 10 minutes of looking resurrected same.  It probably does tell me everything I need to know, particularly where bullets should land based on sight setting or using the Battle Sight.

Using a 16 to 1 Alloy my own Lee 500 Gr 3R bullets made round holes at both 50 and 100 yards sitting on top of 65 Grains Olde Eynsford FFg seated to just cover all lube grooves.  100 yard tgt shown.  Not sure why the target image rotated on resizing.  Should be Rotated 90 degrees clockwise to be as shot.  Point of Aim 6 O'clock on large ring.
