Gentlemen,
Does anyone here have either Colt or Great Western (Pietta) .44-40 cylinder they're willing to get rid of? I'm striking out so far in all the normal places.

Ned, Have you tried contacting Debbie at EMF to see if she can supply you with one? That is probably your best bet but you can also try Cimarron Arms in Fredericksburg, TX.
God Bless and shoot safe.

Yep. She's supposed to call me when they get them in stock again. Supposedly, some are en route now. Thanks!

If all else fails, you may have to try to find a .357 Magnum cylinder and have it rechambered to .44-40. Make sure you slug the bore to see what groove diameter is used. I've seen Colt's with anywhere from .425 to .427". Even their 2nd Gen .44 Specials have .427" grooves. Long ago I had an original Colt's Frontier Six Shooter that had a .427" barrel, but the cylinder throats were .4245"! I had John Kopec send me a newly made .44-40 cylinder with .427" throats, and shot .428" bullets with light smokeless loads. In spite of having a 4-3/4" barrel (short sight radius) that thing was the most accurate single-action revolver I ever owned! Disappeared during a move and I never saw it again. >:(

I've got an 1894 production Frontier Six Shooter that shoots extremely well with the 3rd generation cylinder I installed in it. Wish I'd have bought two while I was at it. Paid sixty dollars from the Colt Custom Shop.

This would be a good one to rechamber.

I've thought of that, but a chambering reamer is expensive. Getting it done is MORE expensive!

How about this one on Ebay. Well worth it if it's an original. I don't know enough about SAAs to really tell the difference.

Visited several gun shops today looking for a colt clone 45 with 7.5" bbl. Saw a few with 5.5" bbl in 45 price varied from $499 to $699. My local Scheels had a 44/40 with a 3" bbl, couldn't resist.
