If they know how to shoot it's probably better than an AK.

I think it's interesting that a Russian National Guard troop is carrying a Mosin.  One wonders: when the Red Army adopted the 5.45x39, did they sell off their bazillion 7.62x39s to raise cash, but kept an inventory of Mosins because they shared ammunition with their heavy machine guns?

Could be!  I wonder what's still stored over there.  I still think there's probably over a hundred thousand Smith & Wesson Russians somewhere..........

Cap'n Redneck

I know of one S&W Russian who made it back to the west at the end of WW2, as a flare gun.
It had had the barrel and cylinder removed, and a new steel single-shot barrel in 26mm caliber fitted.

That is just SO wrong!  (Pretty ingenious, though.)

If I had to choose between the Mosin and the AK (at least the only AK I've ever shot) I'd take the Mosin. I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn if I were standing inside it with the AK.

My Moisin shoots more accurately than my M1917, but again it was made by Westinghouse in 1916, which I believe was Savage.

Unfortunately age and health keep me from heading to Ukraine at this time. Perhaps I'll go in June. General Pitspitr if you have plans on sending any support or  organizing a company of volunteers let me know. I should be good to go by June. Anyone who attacks women and children as the Russians have done needs to feel cold steel.

Should anyone be interested on helping, check Go Fund Me. There is a group Ukrainian American Veterans (UAV) collecting donations for military hospitals. Their goal is $25000.00 they are about half way there. I will vouch for them, as I have met the local chapter commander and members at Kokomo Indian during the Vietnam Veterans Reunion. The group is there for many years. Their membership is made up of United States Military Veterans of Ukrainian descent.

Galen, thats excellent.

My favorite has been the twin mount Maxims with the red dot sight.

Bat 2919

ABC News tonight showed the Ukrainian volunteers wrapping blue tape around their arms.  In the next scene it showed these same guys digging trenches followed by a one of them carrying ammo cans to what was clearly a Russian Maxim on the wheeled cart complete with the armor shield.

Ukraine has a large number of PPSh 41 & 43's also a large amount of Thompsons. These weapons are being used in limited number due to the lack of reliable ammo.
