The Darksider's Den / Re: New Adams Revolver
« Last post by Jack Wagon on March 21, 2023, 07:41:51 PM »
Thanks Deacon. It caught my eye, and the seller was motivated because it wasn't a Colt. It fits a small percussion cap, which is problematic and by the looks of the rammer was made for a conical of some sort. It shoots ok with a .454 round ball.  Jw

STORM / Re: 1860 Vs 1851 Conversion Question
« Last post by Rube Burrows on March 21, 2023, 07:33:44 PM »
The grips are "'magnatusk" from Arizona Custom Grips on ebay.

The 1860 Richards and R-M's are identical except for the barrel and ejector assemblies (except the ones in .38 as noted above).  The R-M barrels are similar to the '51 R-M except being round.

You would't happen to have a side by side photo for comparison showing the differences in the Richards and Richards Mason would you? What about the barrel is shaped differently?

Am I correct in that the ejector rod sticks out a little more on the Richards than does on the RM?

I agree, I usually loaded the 7 in my 1911 magazines by hand.

But it is a royal PiTA with Sig 365, after maybe 2 or 3 rounds near imposable without a loader.
Since I have the Uplula, I use it with all my 9MM & the 1911 too.

The Winchester Model 1886 / Re: Added a really nice one and now I have a trio.

Well, I finally got around to calling Winchester today and was informed my 1886 was a special run for Davidsons back in 2008. The lady also told me they often have calls for individuals looking to purchase one of these rifles and that I was fortunate to have found one.

The Longbranch / Re: Custer at Little Bighorn.

One strange incident during the civil war demonstrates Custer's charm. A southern officer was to be married and General Custer showed up at the wedding reception (yes he had been invited, he had been a friend of the groom before the war started). Dressed in his U.S. blues, he danced with the Southern belles and a good time was had by all and no hard feelings or negative incidents.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think most or any of the other high ranking Union officers would have been invited to a Confederate officer's wedding during the war.

Spencer Shooting Society / Re: Annealing the brass?

I anneal all my rifle brass. Makes it last a lot longer.

I built mine using these plans.

Cost me a hair over $100.00 and works great.  For shorter cases I just add a spacer made from some scraps of an R-Max insulation panel.

I've had that Adco super thumb for over 20 years.  I know there are some other nicer ones.  The 1911 mags I usually just reload by hand at a match, and just use the Adco when loading all at once before a match.  For my .45 and 9mm Glocks I use the one that came with them.  Back then with the 10 round mag limit it was near impossible to get that tenth round in without some help!

My 2 cents worth  :)

I am not familiar with the Adco Super Thumb, you show in your photo.
So, I looked it up on the net and watched their video....

In it the presenter, boasts the cost is about $10
($9.99 and Discontinued @ Midway) Amazon $11.00
Ebay $8.00.

Several years ago I paid $28.95 for a Maglula Uplula 9mm-45 ACP (now about $34.95)

It works !  double stack, single stack , 9MM or 45 ACP ...
I bought it on a recommendation for my SIG 365 9MM which has arguably the MEANIST double stack magazine on the planet to load. (Hellcat owners will argue the point! )

It made a sweet gun's *itch of a magazine a joy to load.... and it loads my 1911 Mag's as a plus.
 $34.00 well spent  ;)

and scraped my MakerShot
