what is this?

a friend of mine came over to do some BP shooting on my range. he brought along this old scabbard and it has this spring on it. what was the spring for/ dose anybody know?[/img][/img]
beware of the man who has only one gun, he probably knows how to use it.....

Perhaps attachment for a motorcycle mounted scabbard?

i found out it is a Model 1904 Cavalry scabbard,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

If so, it'll be inspector-marked and dated near the throat.

Saddle scabbards are remarkably alike, so look.
