All I can tell you is get the Hornady dies, neither the lyman nor the RCBS sets size the brass enough for the .511-.512 bullets my Shiloh and Chiappa preferred.  They do work well enough for .515+ bullets.

IMHO, there is no bp round easier to load nor more enjoyable to shoot than the .50-70.

It's an awesome round in smokeless, such as Trail Boss, too.

Dang, checked all my usual sources, all out.  Not much brass out there either! There is some on Gunbroker.  You can put a backorder in at Starline.

Suggest you keep checking ebay, and put in an alert at Buffalo Arms.  Your RB should like .515s, so any die set will work.  IF I understand the swapping around going on above us, seems one of those guys should have an extra set you can borrow?

Thanks, Drydock.  I put in an order with Optics Planet for some Redding Dies.  They say 16 to 25 days, but I expecting this is a bait and switch...hence I'm looking for some that are real and have a tracking number put on them immediately.

I may do a deal with one of the Blues Brothers (Joe and Robert) to where I can go visit them and do some reloading.

I did get brass on order from Starline.  It should be here tomorrow.

I'm trying to figure out if any of the modern 50 cal. dies would work.  I'll do some research and see if the dimensions would allow to use something like 50 AE or 500 S&W dies in a make-shift fashion...I don't need a full length resizer...since I have the one rifle, I would just resize the case mouth, expand it, and something to put a light crimp on the bullet.

NO!  :o  Those will not work.  I know at least one, most likely both, are set up for .500 bullets.  You need .515s at least to work well in your RB.  You would be better off getting a Lee universal flare die, then simply thumb seating your bullets, No dies at all.  I have seen some nice groups done that way.  Won't take rough handling, but you can shoot until the dies show up.  Do you have a bullet mold yet?

No bullet mold....Many Horses will not allow me to cast bullets.  She fears I will get lead poisoning.  It is a battle that I have lost with her.  I'll slug the barrel this weekend to confirm the bullet diam. needed.  Both Buffalo Arms and Midway have 515 bullets available.
