BROW / Re: Pedersoli trapdoor blowing open

When my H&R did the same thing, it wasn't that the cam had turned on the shaft, but that the weld on the thumb piece had broken and the thumb piece had turned on the shaft which didn't allow the shaft to turn far enough to fully engage the cam.  You might check that ???

I’ve been using black powder for a very long time and water  has been the base of my cleaning with and without additives. A few years ago I heard a lot of chatter about Ballistol  and gave it a try. I had never had a problem with rust on any gun up till then. After using it the bore of my rifle showed rust after it had cleaned with Ballistol. I wouldn’t recommend using it to anyone!

STORM / Re: 1866 uberti stains on brass receiver

 :) Tayhitman  ;)

The 1866 receiver is BRASS.  It will stain whether shooting Smokeless or Black Powder or Subs.  I am also surprised Brasso didn't do the job.

There are those of us who champion Brass rifles who actually prefer to allow the brass rifles to stain (patina??) and like the look.  All of my Brass rifles are well patina'd and I prefer that look.  It is however your rifle and it's your choice.

DO NOT USE SANDPAPER unless you use 2000 or 3000 grit wet/dry.  Any larger grit will actually leave scratches you may not be able to remove.

Howdy Tay,

I can't give a reason for the discoloration on your '66; however, don't use anything more abrasive than Brasso. Try Flitz, I swear by it. I wonder if you should wipe the brass with a lacquer solvent and try brass again. I just let my '66's patina on their own with use.

By the way, I used Flitz on a pair of matte finish revolvers and ended up with a nice antiquey dark gray look. I don't like matte finish on my guns.

Depends (no, not the ones in the plastic package).  First a CAVEAT.  I don't like Balistol.  At all.  Well, it's ok to soften stiff boots.  However:

It will work for your purpose (mostly).  I do however, recommend and champion the use of PAM.  Acronym.  Hydrogen Peroxide, Denatured Alcohol and Murphy Oil Soap in equal parts.  I put it in a little spray bottle.  Works a treat.

With PAM, you won't need a bore snake.  Just a squirt down the bore and spritz a patch on the ends of yer rod.  Done.  Put a drink cozy on yer spray bottle.  Hydrogen Peroxide doesn't like direct sunlight.

 :) YEPPER Major 2 ;)

That is a right spiffy match.   I particularly like the finale at the toe.

Something old something new...

I was going through my holster collection and pulled this one out.
I made it probably 12 years or so years ago for an Avenging Angel,
Looks pretty cool with the 642  :)

The Darksider's Den / Ballistol?

Does Ballistol work with black powder? Mostly I am curious about using it with a bore snake for quick cleanups between stages if necessary.

Upcoming Musters / Division of Illinois Muster, 29 June 2024
« Last post by LT Col Long on May 10, 2024, 08:14:00 AM »

Well I guess that I had better get to it and quit procrastinating.  Here goes, the Division of Illinois Muster will take place 29 June 2024 (I know right in the middle of the Grand Muster!!). The Good Guys Posse BOD voted to for me to hold the muster on that date.  I am not without blame as I am the sec/treasurer of the posse. That all said the muster will take place at Dry Gulch Ranch outside of Winnebago, IL. The address is 10573 Telegraph road, Winnebago, IL.
We do have an interesting match planned which includes the Gatlin Gun, the old 2x4, speed pistol, 14 target stage, a 10 target stage and a 5 to make 3 rifle match. This is a cowboy action range so I have to get inventive.
I finally posted so you all can let me have it!!
