Just finished invertoring the safe
« on: January 28, 2005, 05:37:22 PM »
I think I got enough to get started - I went through the gun safes and I think these may work for the shooting but opinions are welcome (this is rather new).

1. A replica (Pietta it says) 1858 Army percussion pistol - 0.44 - steel frame.  There is an R&D conversion to 0.45LC with it.
2. I found another Pietta percussion pistol also steel frame in 0.44.  Manual says 1860 Colt.  No conversions with this
3. A Winchester 94 (I assume this means an 1894 copy?) lever action Carbine chambered in 0.45LC
4. A 12 gauge external hammer side by side shotgun - not sure the make on this one no manual.
5. A Marlin lever action - manual says 1895 .45-70

The rest look too new.

Lorna, Number one is fine, can be used in two categories- Frontiersman and Frontier cartridge. Number two is fine, but only in Frontiersman. Number three is okay but not as competitive as other lever guns. It will work in all categories except Frontiersman, also how many rounds will the magazine hold? Number four is okay as long as the barrels aren't Damascus( Twist). If they are, you'll see a pattern to the metal. Number five is good for long range side matches as long as it doesn't have a scope mounted( iron sights only). Hope this helps some........Buck 8) ::) ;)
I might be slow, but I'm mostly accurate.....

Thank you.

I am still looking at the manual on all the different categoiries.

Sounds as if two pistols are needed so I will have to pick up another or get a conversion on the other.

No twist on the shotgun according to gunsmith.

11 rounds for the winchester.

No scopes on any of them.  The Marlin though says is has a 26.5" barrel that seems a little short for some the long range I have seen being shot with Sharps replicas with 30 and 34" barrels?

Lorna, There's two different long range categorys, Long Range Lever Gun and Long Range Single Shot. That 1895 with a 26" would be fine for LRLR. i shoot LRLR with an original 1893 in 38-55 with a 26" barrel...........Buck 8) ::) ;)
