Hi Dan,

Checked on your Spencer Carbine serial #21991. The closest serial # to your 21991 I found in my SRS Research Books is #21982 - a Spencer Carbine issued to Company D, 5th New York Volunteer Cavalry on April 22, 1864. Very good chance your Spencer Carbine went to the same unit.
