The reason I ask is I like to mix Motorcycles and Firearms. So I converted my Rossi 1892 into a Take Down to fit in the saddlebags of my bike. I used a SS rifle so it can also be used deer hunting and be relatively weather proof.

You can read about the rifle and the conversion here:

I'm attending my first meet on Oct 22 down on Cape Cod.

Looking forward to it.

Rbertalotto,

Excellent work on the rifle, SS may be used for SASS and NCOWS, but the sights may only have brass or ivory beads, yours would not be correct.  Everything else looks very nice.

Thanks!

I understand about the sights. They are easily changed. I have a few other 1894 and 1892 rifles in 45LC I could use if I don't take the bike.

Somewhat unrelated to the original question, but I see in this month (Sept/Oct? 2013) issue of American Rifleman they have an article on the Taylor "take down" 1892. So you can buy a ready made take down lever.

Wow...reviving a year old thread...

In the past year, after building that Take-Down Rossi, I got addicted to Takedowns.

I now have a bunch of take-downs...... an 1886 Winchester 45-70 (Japan), 1892 Winchester 45LC (Japan), 1892 Winchester 38-40 (Japan), 1894 Winchester 32SP (Vintage), 1897 Winchester 12g (Vintage).......and always looking for more take downs!

Well now, if you want something a little unusual...

Chiappa of course makes a take-down '92, and they also make a Mare's Leg '92.   While I have never actually seen this, a few years ago in Chiappa's catalog I saw that besides their standard round-barrel Mare's Leg, they also made an Octagon- barrel Mare's Leg with a little differently shaped lever (more triangular) and on top of that it is a take-down.  I guess if a regular Mare's Leg isn't small enough for you...   ???

Reiterating, Matte Finished Stainless is not acceptable for NCOWS  events....

You might look on Amazon or Ebay for 'Cape Cod Metal Polishing Cloths'. They do an excellent job of polishing SS my S&W M65 nearly glows in the dark now.

Are take downs equally as accurate as the standard (non-take down)?
