Shooter's Meeting / Re: Anybody ever see a target ...
Last post by Earl Brasse - Today at 01:38:52 AM
About 30 years ago at Winter Range there was a Posse Shoot that was in a similar vein.

There was a gallows with a rope with a weighted bag at the end,
the bag was on the trap door of the gallows,
The trap door was held up by a 4x4 post,

The posse shot lever action (pistol caliber) rifles at the post until the trapdoor would drop the bag,
(I think the post was set in a hole so it was stable & wouldn't fall)

Then the Posse would shoot the now swinging rope to cut it dropping the bag to the ground.

With a full large Posse it was over before anyone had to reload.

The die-hards were when only 6 or so Posse members showed up instead of the full 24 or so.
I watched them reload twice if I remember right.

With good help the reset was pretty quick, pre-cut posts & the rope had pre-made loops for quick-links.

I haven't even seen a Posse shoot in many years. (lots of reasons the died out)

If you are going to have any rope shooting you might want to advertise it early, most folks don't have their guns or eyeball dialed in that tight.

Pretty simple for me. I was a kid, and grew up on the Trinity River (the California flavor, rather than the Longhorn version)

Thank you sir. I'm still deciding whether to join the VFW and tell "back in my day" stories, or just accept my free pancakes from ihop on Veterans Day.  I've asked others for opinions, but I could t hear their answers over the tinnitus ::)

(Disclaimer, tinnitus isn't a joke. I should have warn earplugs more often :-\ )

Yes, it's March 22nd., the 204th. anniversary of Benjamin Tyler Henry's birth.

So take your Henry rifles to the range this weekend, gentlemen, and let those "Sixteen-shooters" sing his praise!  ;D

With much regret, I have just learned that at the moment GLF&MC is inactive as an NCOWS posse.  There are apparently some discussions about resurrecting the club, but it apparently has no events, or other activities planned at this time.

Quote from: King Medallion on March 20, 2025, 10:04:13 PMMY bore slugged at .405, and I ordered the mold at .407. Didn't even think if the crimping groove would be too long or short, hoping for the best I guess.

Shrinking the diameter will lose you some weight.  The rough calculations I get using his 0.31 from crimp to nose and the standard 1.87" COL is a 2.18" AOL this may still work without following cartridge lockup.  A rougher number based off of bottom of crimp groove is 2.2" AOL.

I do think it will work without any issues.  Good Luck.

 :) MTM ;)

Almost but not quite.  Don't want Uberti to field an 1878.  I want Pietta to do it.  Uberti would manage to screw it up with a ton of Lawyer/Import stuff.  At the worst, from Pietta, we'd just see the two position Cylinder Base Pin.

USFA almost did it with their Omnipotent.  But the Omni wasn't DA.  Also my pair of Omni's is a whole other story.  Cracker Jacks

No, too short.

Morning y'all.
Coffee and tea are hot.

'Tis 28 and overcast. "Not as cool. Mostly cloudy. A chance of sprinkles in the afternoon. Highs around 50. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph."
