My new Cimarron 44-40 SA revolver...
« on: October 05, 2023, 08:00:54 AM »
Wanted a SA 6 shooter in 44-40  to go along with my old Winchester 1892 rifle which was made back in 1885.  Looked around and found Cimarron
had a perfect match with the Old Model P 5.5 inch barrel in the original "old" finish so placed the order.  Picked it up couple days ago and wow it does look the part!
It had some rust in spots and even light rust in the bore which cleaned out easily....very realistic!
After cleaning the cylinder bores I tried factory and my reloads for chamber fit which can be an issue with .44-40. Most would slide in but with a slight push for the last bit of travel where the neck
size comes into play with a few that would not go easily to seat. The chamber neck area measures .445 diameter so I will ream that portion to .447 for easy loading.
Cylinder throat allowed a .430 bullet to slide in easy and my bullets measure .430 with the bore rifling a .429 diameter.

My 1892 Winchester has a .430 bore after a slug test and chambers those round easy.  So should be good to go with the new Cimarron six shooter!
Taking it down to my range for first shoots this weekend!

Yes a 4 clicker. The Old model P are 4 click models with the screw that locks the cylinder pin in place. Another thing needed is to shorten that pin so as to use the last locking groove which is normally the "safety" position.
