Actually, there are two completely different types of Lee FCDs.  On the straight wall cases there is a carbide sizer ring at the bottom of the die and a more or less standard type "crimp" at the top of the die.  (It is adjustable.)  On the bottleneck cases like the .38-40 and .44-40 the crimp is a collet that squeezes in from the sides.  This is a good deal for the bottleneck cases since case OAL isn't critical for a collet type crimper.

Yes, I was meaning with the straight cases.  Those collet dies are also fantastic in rounds like the 30-30.
