Title: Loaded black powder on black friday.
Post by: Dick Dastardly on November 30, 2019, 09:45:49 AM
Since I despise pushy crouds of greedy shoppers, I stayed home and loaded black powder on "Black" friday.  Just my way of thumbing my nose at the marketing gurus.  So Naaaaaa.

I may have done you one better: I cut down 3 (three!) trees in my back yard on Earth Day. Earth day is conveniently on Lenin?s birthday anyway. I "get" the contrary attitude. Used occasionally can be quite satisfying.

Were they alder trees that you could make charcoal for black powder from?  ;D

Pine and fir. Made great firewood to increase my carbon footprint. ;D

I too loaded a bunch of Black on Black Friday. Seemed like a much better way to spend time than the alternative. Then went out with a pard yesterday and turned some of it into smoke. Shot the Smith, M-1868 Trapdoor and Remy Navy revolver.  It was a great day to be outdoors in this part of the South!

I loaded blackpowder on Black Friday(.45/70 that day), as well as today.

Reading and surfing on the subject of .45 Colt loads, though I have long ago established a 'go-to' smokless load and blackpowder load and really wasn't looking for new info, got me in the mood to load some 3F Goex, again.

I bet I've read three dozen posts today(across the forums in Google search results) declaring that 40-grains won't fit in a modern case, but I've been doing just that for a good while.

A Lee .452-255 RF with SPG in the grooves, seated to the crimp groove in various brands of brass (no Hornady, though), over 40-grains of 3F Goex isn't hard to do at all. No drop tube, no compression die/wads/cards/etc....no deformed bullet nose using the same soft lead i use for my .566 Pritchetts for my P53 and my JP Murray....and that's 40.0 grains on my scales. My measure shows a little over 40.

Since I shoot mostly Cowboy Action, I need a consistent load and performance.  The load I'm loading is the J/P 45-200 Big Lube bullet over a compressed charge of FFFg Holy Black under that bullet.  It performs great in my pistols and rifles.  My shelves are starting to sag.  I'm ready for April.  BTW. my bp charge is a compressed load of about 35 grains of FFFg.  Boom, clang, if I hold right.

I also reloaded some BP 45 Colt on Black Friday so I could increase my carbon foot print.

I loaded 45 Schofields on black friday. J/P 45 over 28 grains of schutzen 2f is my more mild load for my 45s. Much easier on my messed up neck and shoulder than full 45 colt rounds but still a load of fun.
