Shooting black powder in Uberti topbreaks

Close but not quite. The Cylinder bushing in the 1873 Colt SA design was twofold. The bushing itself was/is intended to turn freely in the cylinder. The cylinder base pin was/is intended to turn inside the bushing. The exposed bushing has a specific cut to deflect Gun Gas. It also served to control End Shake. Head Space is established by the fit of the Star in the Recoil Shield, then maintained by restricting End Shake.
Contrary to popular belief, Colt Pattern Percussion guns were never intended for extended shooting the way we use them for CAS. Six and done. No reloads, when your Percussion gun ran dry, the accepted method for a reload was to grab another fully charged and caped revolver.
Play Safe Out There
PS: the military has never considered the "Side Arm" be it revolver or pistol, to be a "primary" arm. The side arm is/was considered a "last gasp" affair when you should have already been running.

I don’t want to shoot a 100 rounds but 2 or 3 cylinders would be nice. I’m beveling the cylinder. Then I’m going to work on the forcing cone. Next I want to work on the top strap a little. I may increase the barrel cylinder gap a little I don’t know. When I got my Remington conversion it would not fire more than 2 rounds of factory ammunition until I increased the gap. I will work slowly and a little bit at a time and see what happens.

I don't believe I would have attempted such but:
To paraphrase Captain Danny deMortimer in the movie NEVER SO FEW, " God, you've got guts "
He was referring to the "gin" made by Ringa (Steve McQueen)

I treat my Uberti #3's like cap and ball revolvers. I load the cartridges in the cylinders then close the action. Then smear crisco or wonder lube over the cylinder mouths. They will run black powder all day this way.

Good to know stuff right there.
