Boss Lady is taking measurements for my sword belt, which will be ordered from Trailrider & I'm ordering the M1860 Officers Light
Cavalry Saber. I've always wanted to own a sword!   Course I'd never bring it to a gunfight!

My pair of .44 Russians can handle anything!

Cause I'd rather have a U.S. made Ames sword then anything else!

I just phoned in my order for the Ames sword. They advised me that the blade & scabbard are made in India, but everything else is made & assembled at their plant. They call it a re-manufactured sword of the 1862 design, which qualifies it as an Antique, and therefore there will not be any custom/duty charges for shipment into Canada!

However the current price is $200.00 and not the $175.00 shown on the website! It hasn't been updated for a while!

Shipping to Canada is $30.00! I've also ordered the gold Officer's Knot for it.

Now all I need is for Trailrider to make the appropriate belt with the GAF Belt Buckle & I'll be the hit of the SASS shoots
up here in Ontario this summer!

Well, to offset that misery Big Jim, the Canadian dollar is showing better strength vs. the U.S. dollar.

I bet you could easily talk one of your fellow GAF pards in the Lower 48 to hand deliver it to you. For just a little added shipping and handling fee. With vacation pay. And an upgrade to First Class.

I believe they're made by 'Windlass Steelcrafts' - the same outfit that Atlanta Cutlery uses.

A 'real' Ames saber can sometimes be found in that price range, if you're patient, but these are nice enough.

I thought I'd get ya hooked up with a bargain priced REAL one.

If it's Windlass Steelcrafts (or Windlass Cutlery like I heard - same, I'll bet) it's probably the same one that Fall Creek sells.


But I can't deny that it'll be MARKED right .... and that counts for a lot!  I still want one!

Windlass Steelcrafts makes a decent saber - we bought a case of 'em from them to use as 'parting gifts' for well-deserving, spur-qualified Cavalry troopers when I commanded - and they are 'definitely' better than the Model 1902 Sabers usually available for those sorts of presentations.

Distinctive gift, that - when everyone else was giving plaques - but they were earned through a helluva lot of hard work...

Regrettably - they 'are' reproductions - and have that 'look' to them, regardless of the markings.

In comparing them to several 'real' Ames Model 1860 and Model 1906 sabers in my collection - they're a little 'thicker' all around, whereas the originals are a little 'sleeker' - and perhaps 'deadlier' in their presentation - as befitting the weapons they were intended to be.

The average guy will never notice a difference - especially when they get some scratches and dings.

Got a real shock yesterday, as a Postal vehicle showed up to deliver Trailriders' Sword Belt & the Ames M-1862
Light Cavalry Saber! Usually they just put a notice in my mail box at the Post Office, that parcels are in.
Course, it could have been the $66.41 in Sales Taxes & Handling charges that was due.

Trailrider's Sword Belt, with the GAF Buckle, fits perfectly & I'm really impressed with the Quality &
Workmanship, along with the personal service he provided during our several phone conversations.
Price was more than reasonable for the item supplied! Ride Easy, Pard

The Ames Sword looks great & I got the Gold Officers Knot with it. Not (pun intended) knowing
how to affix it to the sword, I e-mailed them & within the hour, they sent back detailed & concise
instructions. All in one sentence too! Geat Service & a very well made sword, with the Ames name stamped on it.  

Now I'm just waiting for my Medal, Hat Badge, Collar Insignia & Officers Kepi, all which should be shipped this week.

Got confirmation, yesterday, from Prairie Flower & Leather, that my Medal, Hat Badge, & Collar Tabs
were sent out by First Class Pony Express! I'm a happy cowpoke!

Steffan has a real sense of humor & gently took me down a peg, as I was in a bit of snit about the delay
in shipping. I appreciated it, as I was having a little attitude problem, which he deftly solved. Just too anxious to get everything, so's we can get a new photo, showing all the proper equipment I truly needed.

Now I just need to find out if my Officer's Kepi has left the factory.

Yes I asked them to engrave my full name & GAF number on it!

Steffan says he won't send out anything but his best, & he had some production delays in the last
couple of weeks. 

I'd rather wait, then get something that is below par in quality!
