hmm. lets see if I can make this work. Mine is a 26" 40-60 Chaparral. Serial number under 200. It's got the "enhanced" wood. So far, it's been fun to shoot. I finally got a smokeless load that shoots well with a 240gr bullet. I use cut down Starline 45-70 cases to make the ammo.

Well, I would current pics of my Chaparral '76, but it is currently torn apart all over my bench being restocked with real, honest-to-goodness walnut from Precision Gun Works. I will post pics when I get it finished! ;D
By the way, boys...we need a good photo for the header shot on this board. It looks like every one has one but us!

Here's one of my original carbines. This is a Mountie in .45-75 WCF that was shipped in April of 1885, just in time to serve in the Reil Rebellion. It was last documented in service at Ft. Saskatchewan in December of 1894. The gun still retains 80% of it's original bright blue and it has a near perfect bore. Later on, I will put up a photo of the ammo and reloading tools. If you want to see more 1876 stuff, let me know. I've got a pile of it.

This is Winchesters easliest Model 1880, 1st issue reloading tool. The early spoon handle tools of this model were not marked with the Winchester name, only the patent date and caliber. This one is often called the "patent tool" because the patent had been applied for but not yet issued. The caliber marking on this one is .45-75 WCF. I actually use this tool when reloading for my 76's. The brass bullet mold is also Winchester, but marked only with the .45-75 WCF caliber. This is the 3rd issue Winchester bullet mold of the same period as the tool. The box of ammo is the rare MODEL " CETENNIAL" 1876 box. This is not however, the earliest .45-75 WCF ammo. The label dates it to the mid to late 1890 period. Yes, it is full of it's original Winchester factory ammunition. Hope you enjoy looking at this stuff.

Greetings all..I finally have been able to sign on here. Nice to be with such a distinguished group.
I have 5 1/2 &6's which includes one Uberti 45-60. The half is in pieces and needs to be restored. Thats a 40-60 round barrel rifle.
I have not been able to work up a load and play with the Uberti too much yet but I have shot my original 45-75 deluxe. Whatta monster

Cheers grizzly,yes a very nice shooter too which is the only reason i have persisted with it.I have won 3 different 200-300 yard competitions with it.At risk of seeming boastful I need to say that I have an Browning 1886 45/70 that was my best long range lever rifle but now is getting stiff competition for first place.Need to point out that the four chapparals i have hade the chance to slug the bores in all have slightly bigger bores than average 45's.needing projectiles sized at .459 for best results.Doc

Much has been made about which aspects of the Chaparral or Uberti are closest to the original. FWIW, every single original I have ever heard of has been .457.

Thanks for the welcome. I invite my munition itself. Collets have looked at the buffalo ordered arms, and the accessories. In old germany is all so expensive.
We did not enjoy as open to deal with this hobby, the laws are somewhat different than in protecting the promised land (USA) ;D

I am not familiar with the Kemira 110 powder, but, IMR 4198 seems to be working well for folks.

I picked up my new Cimarron 1876 today. OMG! It is beautiful! The wood is great, the color case hardening is great, the bluing is dark and rich. I'm impressed with the quality and workmanship. I can't wait to shoot it. Plus...get this along with the rifle I didn't just receive one, but two free bumper stickers. Actually they are probably the most expensive bumper stickers I own. ;D

I think I will buy the powder and taste. It is not a problem for us to get.
Trail boss had only taken because the full sleeve. Grs at 14.0, I thought I shoot an air rifle.
Little pressure, but I had no data, and therefore prefer to ask.
Voted for the schekering (Nussbaum) 400 - € additionally paid. In the march get my dp scharps "boss" in .45-110 and I looked at the ingredients in buffalo ordered arms. I have made paper patch bullets to use. :-\ I hope there are a few recommended's.

I picked up my Uberti 1876 in 45-75 today will be mounting the pedersoli soule sight set on it as soon as the gunsmith bores out and retaps the top tang screw hole. Also had to reverse the sight ladder so it would use the right notch in the base to keep it level. Will take it shooting this weekend with the buckhorn though.

Interesting. Is the top tang hole NOT metric? Or is the pedersoli sight not metric. I was planning on putting a tang sight on mine, but noted that the rear tang/stock screw is nowhere near what the tang sight comes with. Very small in diameter. :-\

I finally got both guns in and took a few pics. Here's one of them side by side. The carbine is 45/60. The 28" model is in 50/95. One is a Cimarron and one is a Taylors, respectively. The only difference I see, other than bbl length of course, is the printing on the top and side of the barrel. I prefer the Cimarron model for that reason - but they are both nice!
Still waiting for warmer weather and ammunition!

That 50-95 should be a real hoot to shoot! Hope your weather warms soon so you can go shoot those beauties! ;)

Thanks Grizzly Adams. The carbine is definately lighter and swings better on target. I thought they both balanced out very nice, and I almost like the longer barrel if time permits aiming longer.
These guns sure are sweet. Heavy, but sweet! I'll let ya' know how the 50/95 shoots when I get some ammo for it. I'll rate the "hoot" from 1-5! ;D

Just a FYI. I talked with Cimarron this afternoon to see if they had received any shipments of the Centennial, and I was informed they do have some 45/75 models in stock again. Not sure how many, but I am sure it's minus one 'cause I jumped on one right away...another caliber to start accumulating data for ::)
If yer' lookin' to get one, or were on the fence about it, mabe give em' a holler.............

I have hunted and killed most types of Montana big game at one time or another with original Winchesters. I like the idea of this site, I think I will check in once and awhile.

Sign me up! I just added two Chaparral short rifles, one in 45-60 and one in 50-95 to my collection, and I can't wait to shoot them! The 76 has always been my favorite Winchester. I had two originals back in the 70's but had to let them go years ago. These will just have to do until, or if, I ever get another original.

Hot Dog, it arrived! It's better than I hoped for - pretty sure it's brand new! Now search for some very light duty loads to start off with. Don't think there's 45-75 snap caps to test the action and trigger pull :)

this is my Chappie made in 2006. What do you think - is this artifical wood or is it just a nice woodstock i got?
Concerning the toogle links - for me they look because of the design stronger than other designs - what do you think.
And suprice my Lyman no2 from my 1873 fits concerning my thumb better than the special ordered 1876 no2 sight ???

Yes - you are correct, I need a wooden case for the rifle, so it sits straight up and down. I also need one for my Sharps. My brother built one for his Sharps and it is a super case, giving total protection to the rifle and sights.

It was hard finding brass hardware that wasn't garbage. The latches are garbage, hopefully they can be replaced with some old ones. The brass corner protectors came from ebay, along with the lock and recessed folding handle - which is also brass. real brass, not the brass plated then coated potmetal. Added an internal support that the rifle sides under, and a coin recessed in to the top. The cheap brass screws will be replaced with some older ones - this modern "brass" won't tarnish even if you strip off the clear coat.
Case is getting "aged" to make it look old.

I joined sometime ago with a Uberti/Cimarron NWMP Carbine in .45-75 but waited to post photos until I had the chance to refinish the wood. Well as often happens time marches on.....
Finally have gotten around to it and here are the results. She has a really pretty piece of wood and with some orange/citrus stripper and some judicious removal I obtained the results I wanted.
I was able to locate a Chaparral Spanish Meter sight from Numrich and will eventually finish that and install. It doens't have the range markings, but I'm thinking of having an engraver copy the numerals from original photos. In the meantime I'm having fun!

Just started loading for and shooting an original 3 digit serial number, 1876 centennial in 45-75. It’s a 26” full Octagon, set trigger and long range sight. So much nostalgia and fun to shoot.
