Title: Checkered faux ivory grips
Post by: Pappy Hayes on January 19, 2022, 08:34:55 PM
I would like to have checkered ivory grips for at least one of my 1860 Richards Conversions. Is there anyplace to find it?

Call Larry Little. I've seen checkered grips offered at his trade shows.

There are also laser engravers who can checker the grips any way you want them, in case you don't fine exactly what you are looking for.

Can anyone tell me if Gripmaker is still in business? I tried two different emails and neither one is working.

I ordered from Gripmaker. I am a little disappointed with how much work it is going to take to make them fit. He sent a practice piece to work on first. I have it close but some of the areas needing sanded down is getting colse to the checkered areas

Would love to see how they turned out.

Have been put on hold. I am trying to finish my old F100 project right now. Also I am not feeling comfortable fitting them. My truck and the gun I am working on with the leather I made for it

Howdy Pappy,

With the prices they are asking for new pickups, I don't blame you for trying to keep that old truck on the road. (By the way it looks magnificent.)

Beautiful truck, Pappy! You've done some fine leatherwork on those seats. That pistol is no slouch, either. Thanks for posting the photos.

Wish I could claim the work on the seats, but a local shop did them for me. I did make the holster belt set.

Looks good. Incised slim jims have a look their own.

I got the grips on my Richard's. But they didn't come out tight. The one piece centering block must have moved on me. Any ideas now ho I can make them fit tight? I shimmed with some leather and it is good and tight.

Maybe build it up with a thin layer of JB Weld and file that down to fit.

I bought a pair of antiqued ivory grips for my 1875 Remington made by Uberti some years ago from River Junction Trade Company that were made by Buffalo Brothers. They were a bit thinner than the stock wood grips that came on it and I have been very happy with them.  I removed the wood grips and took the cylinder out and took the revolver into their store to check out how they fit.

Got the grips fitted and added brass triggerguard. Looking for another set of grips for one of my other guns. Is there anywhere else to get faux ivory grips checkered or more similar to the ones on the Last Stand revolver.

Pappy, these are from Larry Little aka 'Gripmaker'

You will have to contact him, as I recall they are not on his standard offerings catalog page.

NC Ordinance have a nice Checkered 1860 grip (some glueing required).  I've used several.  Just a tad of fitting.
