1860 Henry / Re: 44 Special vs 45 Colt
Last post by Griff - Yesterday at 10:22:15 PM
Like the good Coffinmaker, I too, have been shooting a toggle link since acquiring it in early 1987. It is a 45 Colt 1873 Sporting Rifle.  I have never annealed my brass, and not suffered from a stoppage due to a fouled chamber.  I have, however, clearanced the carrier mortise by removing material from the sides of the carrier to the tune of about 20 thousandths in total.  Prior to this the carrier would often get sticky after a stage or two, and after, I have often shot multi-day matches without cleaning or wiping.  I have done the same to a 2nd 1873 and an 1860 Henry.

The Darksider's Den / Re: 2F versus 3F.

As others have stated, 2F will provide a bit more smoke, 3F a bit more velocity & energy.  I use either 2F or 3F in equal volumes.  If you desire lighter recoil I would suggest the Cowboy 45 Special with a lighter load of powder and lead.

I would like to thank the BRR for being treated like royalty last Sunday. Miss Kay and I started a small bucket list trip on 6 August.  We saw grandkids and watched them participate in the WY State 4H shoot in Douglas and then made a trip to the Mountain Man Museum and Fort Bridger.  We made it to the BRR shoot on 13 Jul.  We were treated like long lost family.  The stages were great and Sunshine Annie served a great meal.  Once again I want to thank all of you for the wonderful day shooting with friends.  Thanks to Mary Borer for patching up a cut that I didn't know I had until I was unknowingly bleeding on my ammo.

I was really proud to have cleaned the last stage even if you had to time me with a hour glass.

Love to all,

Miss Kay and T-Joe

The North-South Skirmish Assn. holds two national meets a year just NW of Winchester of Rt. 522. Middle of May and first week of Oct. If it was shot in the war, we shoot it, from revolvers up to field artillery. It's very family friendly and there are quite a few sutlers/vendors selling all kinds of goodies. Check www.n-ssa.org

You will meet several of the denizens of this BB there. Hope to meet you in person there at some point.

The Barracks / Re: Got blocked on Gunbroker!

I learned the thing about no butthole from the late Stu Kettle at his last muster, he had a warped sense of humor about not having one anymore. Him and I spent a very pleasant evening the day before anyone else showed up and it started because he was jealous I could phart and he couldn't. My late wife almost ended up that way also and might have if her heart had not given out.

I did not mean to be so gloom with the answer, but I always say that as respect for Steve.

They both look done on me and Steve laughs at that joke, Rita says "I have no control over him, I never did even down there."

I miss them both as well as many others.  I always told Rita that if I went first, I'd just wait at the Rainbow Bridge with the dogs.

And now as Silver Creek Slim says, " have dust in my eyes.  :'(

Only in the upper 80s here today, but the humidity was said to be 98% Yuk. Had to shoot yet another skunk that was in the chicken yard this morning. Wife spotted it hiding under some boards, dining on a dead chicken. Score was once again, K-22 Masterpiece 1, Skunk 0. Used to have more problems with coons, but lately it's been mostly skunks. So far, none of them I've shot have sprayed, although they stink even when they don't spray. Unlike the raccoons, usually one head shot and they curl up and die, coons are a lot tougher and often need a second (or third) shot.
