In that event, is it too presumptuous of me to respectfully request a large cup of cowboy coffee with a slice of cinamon pumpkin pie on the side?

I thought of handing out this:

I like pumpkin with spices, but as pumpkin with spices, not in everything.   I like anchovy pizza also but sure as heck don't want it in my coffee.

Got back from the big city (Omaha  ;D)  Decided I like this GI doc, first time for everything, gal about 30, guessing from India or Pakistan, listened to what I said, agreed that was what was wrong, no sense is doing the drink and X-Ray since we know it's there.  Said there were several ways to go about it, medicine, diet see if loosing a few pounds would maybe help, or just fix it, yep, bingo.

She said most are to worried about it and mess with it and are misrible for years.  Told her I had enough lapros it didn't bother me.  Anyway got to go Wed and they are going to put me out and make sure the espogus ain't damaged and then she's sending me to UNO Med Center, she said they have a good surgeon over there for this stuff.  Asked her if it was Olinikuf and she said it was.  Yep I know him, he helped develpe the wrap to keep adhesions from sticking after surgery and I was one of his first patients on that.

Del,

I would guess the pumpkin itself is okay?
What is it about or within the spices that you don't like?
I like my coffee straight up and black. The Flavored coffee's are ok, only occasionally, but I don't care much for it on a full time bases.
My best,

For me, the best place to use Pumpkin Pie Spice, is in a pumpkin pie. Can't comment on Pumpkin Pie Spiced coffee products, since I don't drink either spiced or regular coffee.

Nothing wrong with pumpkin or other winter squash spiced up with what ever you choose, my mix for two Winter squash (pumpkin is a winter squash) sweet tater or carrot pie or the same roasted.
2 teaspoons of cinnamon
1 teaspoon of allspice
1 teaspoon of nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon of ground cloves

But it does not belong in everything else just cause it's October, I like soy sauce on some things but I sure ain't going to put it in my coffee.

At least pumpkin soup is an old dish dating to before Columbus and also before pumpkin pie.  It ain't something companies are try to cash in on Yuppies and their buying stupid things because it's cool.

Was out and about with the wife today. Del, you got me noticing stuff again. Kept seeing pumpkin flavored stuff all over the place. Even saw a pumpkin cheese cake milk shake at Arby's. Another thing I saw was Hostess Sno-Balls colored orange and called Glo-Balls ::)

Hope things can be corrected GI-wise again. Same problem as last time? ::) :(

Made spaghetti for supper Wednesday.

Finally got some much needed rain Thursday.  It would rain hard for a while then almost quit, then pour again.  Had one big peal of thunder at the start that sent the cats off to parts unknown, then all was quiet the rest of the day.

Friday was deep fried catfish and hush-puppies.

Tonight it will be rice stuffed Cornish hens on the grill, but it will have to be consumed inside, as our high temps are only getting to the low 70’s.  By the time we eat it’ll be a tad too nippy for the wife on the patio.

Yesterday there was an unexpected surprise, in the form of large box left at my gate by UPS.
Seems 2 of my lead men, got together with the crew and ordered and had delivered,  as a gift one of these  :o

I haven't had a Grill since the Barn Fire several years ago, just never got one. We did miss it but never replaced the propane one we had.... :-[

This is a electric smoker, both the Carpenter (leads) have one and I tasted the Ribs etc that come from them. I won't be able to use it until I return from Texas , I'm looking forward to it  :)

Pum'kin spice belongs in Pum'kin bread and pie only!
One of my fondest memories is the pum'kin pie my Grandmother gave me at Thanksgiving...an entire pie!  She made both pecan and pum'kin, and each of her grandchildren got an entire pie of their choice.

But, for today, I'll enjoy my Folger's with French Vanilla creamer while reloading, and then head to the Gun Show at the Pasadena (TX) convention center.

Love "punkin pie", if it's made right; of course what's right to me might not suit someone else, but most pun'kin pie is good - now pun'kin pie spice in other stuff?  Not so much.

Here's a funny story from my fambly past:

My uncle love his mom's pumpkin pie, so much so that he always asked for his own whole pie.  He also did not like squash of any kind, and always complained about having squash at Sunday meals, so much so that his mom got sort of ticked at him about it.  So one Sunday, after church as usual, we went to the grandparents house for dinner, and whaddayaknow?  No squash, even though it was the height of Summer - but there were a few pumpkin pies, and Uncle requaested his own as usual and was rewarded with a whole pie and all the whipped cream he wanted.  So, after he'd pretty well decimated that pie, commenting that he thought it was about the best "pumpkin pie" she had ever mad, Mammaw asked everyone what they thought of her banana squash pie.  He got so mad about being fooled that he took his family and left, and was not in evidence for a couple of weeks after.  After that, he avoided pumpkin pie.

What is funny is I made a squash pie one time and the wife wouldn't eat it, said she didn't like squash.  LOL pumpkins are just a group of cultavars of winter squash generally round and orange.   Although sometimes called the Dickensen Field Pumpkin, the most common cultavar for store bought pumpkin looks more like a squash, or rather what people think a squash looks like.

Grandpa used to grow these.  What is funny is most of the pumpkins you find at the store this month ain't fit to eat being bred to carve.   If you want to make pie from scratch look for the small pie/sugar pumpkins and if you have no luck finding them just use butternut squash and no one will know the differance.  LOL

I have decided the latest conspriracy to worry about is the Pumpkin Spice everything.  I am sure they are putting it in something in the pumpkin pie spice mixes that takes over peoples minds, and it does not affect people like me who mix their own.   Making a pie with a store box mix is just a gateway drug and it will take over and you'll want all that weird stuf. ::)

It's as bad as the green match head one I pointed out a couple years ago, (thanks to a friend I am now getting red head matches made in Chili that are better than the long gone Ohio Blue tips).

We need to fight this Yuppie conspiracy or we'll all be driving Prius's, Smart Cars and BMW SUV's and drinking weird lattes made with soy milk and pooping out digested tofu.   Just say no  to pumpkin spice unless it's a real homemade pumpkin pie.

Happy Birthday Troy!

The hens turned out great!  We started to get rain about the time I was bringing them in.  Over Thursday and Friday we got about 3/4”, about the most we’ve had over the entire summer.

Been a spending some cash the last couple days.  Scheduled some tree trimming for this coming Monday, had a leak in the sprinkler system manifold repaired, and patched holes in the wood trim made by a now late woodpecker (did the last part on mine own, no charge).
Ordered a new desk chair for the “Eclectic Den”, should be here tomorrow.

Last mowing done on Saturday, followed by a final sprinkler test tomorrow.  Then I’ll be shutting it down for the winter.  The grass is starting to go dormant.

Supper tonight will be grilled pork steaks with leftover rice from the hens.  After a phone conference about our retirement investments (might be having supper for breakfast).

Thank you, Russ T!  Yesterday, I was the "birthday boy", but today, I'm back to being an old guy, getting lazier and fatter!

My last was in 85.

OK, things are looking up, went to the big city (Omaha) for some testing tube down the throat and all, things are not as bad as first thought.  Not hernia any more, must have slipped back sometime (Not uncommon)  The e tube was real narrow, they stretched it and gave me some muscle relaxers to help it stay that way, will try to see if I can wean off them in a month or so.

Good thing, got my first full night sleep in a long time, even missed the 2 am plumbing check, firgue not being able to drink most the day yesterday had something to do with it.

And, good to hear 85, too!

Del   Hope things continue to improve.

Troy  Just after the first of the year I’ll turn 65 and I can get my Senior discounts and all.  Then I plan on callin’ it quits on birthdays too.

Pork steaks were great last night.  Finished of f the leftover rice with them.  Got the night off from cooking, but as we’re running low on leftovers, may have the wife pick up some fried chicken breasts from the offsite pantry’s deli while she’s shopping

The new desk chair has made it to Reno, but 'taint made it to the den yet.

Stayed on the mild side, but made some beef burritos tonight for supper, tasted good and no problem so far.   I think we got it fixed, have heard from other people today who have had this done or know of others and it seems a lot of times it needes done from time to time.  Was having trouble this summer swallowing salt tablets when it was hot out and I needed them, just chewed them.  Ain't going to let it go that long next time since I know what is up.

Well I think the Eclectic Den is now complete.  New sign and new chair have finished it up!

The weather was very accommodating last night and the burgers were consumed on the terrace.  Flashlights were brought into use to keep track of our feline friends after it got really dark.  A truly enjoyable evening.

I think I’m getting out of cooking tonight.  We are heading downtown for the annual Octoberfest on Virginia Street.  Grape stompin’, food, beer, music and lots’a people.

We got one here in down town, but it's always been a PIA because of parking, I don't mind walking 3-4 blocks but Rita's knees won't handle it.  They gave her a sticker now till she can get them fixed so we can park in the cripple spots.  (My SD got mad at me for saying that, but told her since I was also legally disabled I could say that, kinda like some people and the N word.  She was not pleased with me at all.   )

Football fever in Dallas, the faithful turned out to root the home team as  The Longhorns  worked over Oklahoma...
streets were full of celebrators.
Women ah girls  eye candy everywhere in some shortlist skirts I've seen, in some cases  I've seen wider belts !
The watering holes downtown were spilling out at the seams ... My Hotel was party central...
after a 8am-11pm work day, all I wanted was to get horizontal....

No joy here in Mudville some guys claiming to be from Slim's state come down and beat the locals by 2 points, sad, now they are 4 and 2 this year, heard they ain't lost 4 games in a year since the 50's, got them a new coach again, still paying at least 2 of the former ones last I heard, this one came with a 30 day warrenty and they waited to long and now it's up.  LOL, they wanted to make more money and changed leauges and now it's bitting them in the arse, can't get the gigs to run up the points no more and play a lot more better teams.

Whining is the proper thing to do I guess.

However, when we were all much younger and less wise than we have become in our older years, we thought we would live forever.
Much of what we once did for fun and recreation, has come back to haunt us.
That is just part of living.

Went to the 6th Floor Museum, Texas Book Depository building site of the JFK Assassination.
Very interesting, I stood at the sniper nest, you are given a electronic head set guided tour
not much in the way of artifacts mostly photos & such.

Then we went to Kuby's Sausage House , I had a potato pancake & applesauce,  Wiener Schnitzel , red cabbage & German potato salad.
It's in row of restaurants of all kinds, I enjoyed it .
There a was an live Accordion player, she played Lili Marlene for me
"...My Lili of the lamplight
My own Lili Marlene"

I requested Edelweiss too, but see had not played it by the time we left ...oh well , I would have gotten misty eyed anyway.

Having friends over for grilled salmon ,rice and grilled spare-geese tonight.  Supposed to be a little cool for outside dining, but if the rain holds off, may light a fire in the mobile fireplace and make some s’mores.

We had Blueberry waffles, scrambled eggs, and Little Smokies for Breakfast. We had Breakfast on the Patio, we were entertained by the squirrels running along the fence and jumping from branch to branch. The animals love this cool weather.

Changed the World to a totally different reality....  Probably Johnson would have never been POTUS.
I doubt ,Nixon would have run , so no Watergate ( no Eagleton is spy on ) dirty tricks.

Might have been a lot of mushrooms around also. ::)

I'm thinking too,  The Joint Chiefs recommended their use in Viet Nam
so did former President Eisenhower & Barry Goldwater... Fortunately, Johnson resisted them , we might have been closer without LBJ.

The rain let up enough to allow me to grill the salmon and the spare=geese, but started coming down again to put a damper on the outside fire.  So, we had one in the Livingroom fireplace after dinner.

The Honey Locust tree in the front yard is doing a good job of covering up the grass, so I quess fall has finally fell.  The Viirginia Creeper in the front corner is a nice shade of orange and yellow.  Guess I’ll have to cut it back sometime this week and get ready for next year.

Went to the Twisted Root place for a Burger ...they claim " the best Burger in Texas "  :-\
Stood in line , ordered the Kevin Bacon... Bacon & Danish Blue Cheese w/ onion straws ( fried)

I don't know about best in Texas, not even sure its the best on that street, in Deep Ellum  :-\

It's in a Quaint, old section re- purposed row of eatery's ...busy,  youth hang,  kinda place

Given a choice, I'd op out on a return, not that it was bad,  it was OK to good , just not great or the best ...IMHO
I should mention it is a Bison Burger , which would account it being rather dry .

On a scale of 1-10  it gets a  5

Points added for the ol homeless bum sitting in the entry , munching on a hand out burger

Best burger in Houston area is a toss up of me...Miller's Cafe on the corner of Space Center and Bay Area Blvd., and Dry Creek in the Heights area.

Glad to be back in Tejas, this morning.  The high is to be around 82!  Finally, something resembling Fall weather.

Went to Pass Christian Mississippi with Miss Red this weekend for a fund raising event and reunion for her High School.  Ever seen a monkey in a black tie?  I sure felt like one.  The event had great food hosted by area restuarants, an awesome band, too.  They raised over $200K!

If anybody would like a deal on some property facing the Gulf, there is plenty to be had...I said a deal, not cheap!  A lot of folks didn't rebuild after Katrina, and the community is much less populated than it used to be...and New Orleans is the only one that got any press...something ain't right with this picture.

On my second cup of coffee and back to work....for now.

Forgot, I had a hissy fit at Menards SAT, wasn't my idea to go there, but that's where little brother bought the shingles for Mom's house ::)  Was short so we went to get 2 more bundles, our friend Charles drove and I rode along cause I was expecting trouble, Charles being a little shy, I figured he might need help.  Anyway, went inside and paid for them, headed to the yard, found the shingles, of course SKU #'s and the numbers on the bundles don't jive.   Only one other group in the yard, but plenty of yard birds wandering around, but neither group getting help.

OK, guy came over near us, I hollered for him to come over he did, explained the problem, he said he was busy with a customer inside and would be back,  hmm went inside and didn't take anthing, bet he had to poop and didn't want to admit it. ::) ::) ::)

Anyway, I called 411 and got the CS desk #, called them, told them we were over by the shingles in a white pick-up and needed help now and that nobody seemed to want to help us.  He said he'd page.  One of the fork-lifts came over, explained we needed to find the right shingles and showed him the paper, said he didn't know, would go seek out help, never got off.   As I was dialing customer service two more showed up, one walking, one with fork-lift, FL made it first, we explained the problem to him, he did get off and say that this one pile was what he thought was right.   I cut open a corner with my knife and we decided it was right, so he said how many do you need.  told him two and he said he could load them fro us if we wanted.  (load it dummy, yer hardly old enough to shave and we're both pushing 60) ::)  No movement out of him, I grabbed one loaded it and grabbed another, as he's telling me he can help.  Told him not to bother, and he asked if I had the right amount, told him the paper he looked at said 2, I loaded one and then another one, and when I went to school 1+1=2, but doubted his education taught him that.

As we were getting in he told us to have a nice day, and I told him it was hard when dealing with lazy stupid people.

Yes I was rude, yes they all were stupid and lazy, all seemed to be listening to the feetball game or someting on their phones.

Go to the bulk nail bin with a dial caliper sometime and sort nails into rejects and keepers, most of them don't know you can use nails for other than nailing boards together, when making knife rivets you don't want the slightly oversize ones ( figure they are from different machines.)

Brought the rain in from Texas it appears , it twas nice yesterday , decided to do something I just don't do any more
I went to a Cinema  :-\
Wanted to see "The Martian " Ridley Scott  does good stuff , Damon is good & deadpan funny
good film.
Had a good "ol" fashion American burger at Johnny Rockets , and a Chocolate shake.
I had been working 10- 12 hours a day for 3 weeks , returned form Texas and treated me to some R&R PTO
Figured Movie & burger & shake was a good reward....

Planned to shoot today, but the rain,  :( I had enough of that shooting  in Texas  ::)  so ... not sure what I'll do
maybe reload, or  head to FFL  :-\ for poke around. Always something cool there to buy drool lust for.
often when I'm tapped out , gun money wise.

maybe Sonic's for Chicago dog  :-\   Willy's would be better , but I don't care to drive over 20 miles for Hot-dog today.

Saw #2 done, a bit odd, paid $5 for it a couple years ago. Homemade from a piece of a bigger cross cut, it is 19" long at the blade. Front appears to have been cut with a chisel, most likely hot from the look, but probally wrapped in wet rags to protect the temper. (Temper seems the same the length when I sharpened it) Handle holes are punched, most likely also hot. As a cross cut the teeth don't need set, and it sharpened up nice and cut a 4X2 in half easily.

A friend who grew up in timber country told me he'd seen a lot of those homemade ones like that used as topping saws before light wight chainsaws were around A good use for a 2 man missing a couple teeth from damage.

Did the handle with Canola oil also, a lot of surface rust on the blade, but have it clean and stablized, some pretty good pitting but it will cut fine.

51 here, raining pretty good. Been like that all night. Got both poles changed, the last one was a real stinker. Found that somehow, the under ground part of the power cable had the jacket cut. Had to redo the bad sections in situ( not easy). Plus, since the resident wasn't home, we couldn't check our work after finishing. Believe the breaker is probably tripped because of the short. Will have to go back to that one at some point ::)

Did nothing of yesterday's pass times, no shooting, or reloading , no FFL visit, and no Hot-dog either , course there is today   :)

X-Over needs a bath , but it's raining and an exorcise in futility,  need to presser-wash the north siding .....again it's raining.

Guess I'll try for the FFL visit & a hot-dog... I'm sure work will call with some question or need , It's been that way.

maybe one of TLD's naps  ;D

Early morning for me...after gaining 8 lbs in the past 4 months and reaching a record weight for me, I got up early and went to the gym to try and regain my girlish figure.  Coffee (no pumpkin spice, black only!) is ready now, and I could use a cup.

Rained most the day, cleared about 3 :ish

FFL had a piece I'm interested in ... H&R Mod 649 with 18" barrel , in un-fired condition not sure I saw the second Cyl. though  :-\

I collect H&R's , the working mans gun, functional , well constructed , reliable & in many cases butt ugly .

they were inexpensive, but not cheap made , H&R took pride.... some like the Mod. 999 & 646 can command $500-600 +
un-fired in the box.

Photo is an example, not the gun I looked at....

51, feels like 46. Still dark. ::)

Not me. I'll be going to work in the dark regardless, and when we change to "daylight wasting time" I'll come home in the dark, too. I vote that we should keep "springing forward" enough that it never gets dark before 8PM.

All good points! Where I live, it never really gets dark with all the light pollution!

Well we got some rain yesterday.  Not even much a drizzle most of the morning, then started to come down heavy about midafternoon.  It did quit just in time to put brats on the grill, but the beer, brats and tater salad had to be consumed inside.

Getting’ close to a hard frost overnight, so the wife has started bringing in some of the patio plants.  Now I’ve got to find places around the house to put hangers to put them (It was easier when she just had annuals outside).  At least these are all in hanging pots and don’t require any digging.

Major, H&R used to make a Handy Gun set in 20 ga, 30-30 and 22 Hornet, all in a take down case, always thought that was the coolest, would make just a wonderful truck gun.

About 30 years ago, helped a friend get a good deal on one of those H&R in 22 LR that sorta kinda resembled a SA.  Unique gun, should have had documentation done on it and kept it for myself.  Gun belonged to Jesus, bought it from his wife, (not sure it was quite leagal ;D)  ex worked with Jesus's wife, see Jesus was in the hospital and she needed the money, and she really didn't want Jesus to have it when he got out and got rid of the long sleeved coat.  (No Jesus was not Mexican and didn't pronounce it Hey-zus  ::))

Wife is moving plants in as we speak(type). Had frost already, but she still had some on the porch, likely to get too cold for them to stay there soon.

We’ve had the frost on roofs and cars exposed to our clear night skies a couple of times, so the potted stuff is all huddling on the patio under the large pine tree in the backyard.  However next Monday overnight ambient temps are going to be below freezing, so this weekend will be time to decide what we want to save and what gets replaced next year.  Luckily most of what’s left outside are annuals, so they get sacrificed to the lack of places to put them.

White puffy cumulus clouds in a deep blue sky today, with a high of 54 and a warming trend through Saturday, and then we start cooling off.

Got a by on cooking tonight.  Planning on grilled pork steaks with a side of stuffing tomorrow.

Cooking for left overs, did a ham yesterday, cooked pintos in the ham bone from the last one, this one will go into something.  Pintos are re-fritoing in skillet now for burritos, got a whole hog worth of ribs in the smoker ( a gift from someone who don't like ribs but bought a hot)  will smoke them good a couple hours and tomorrow will go in the lectick roaster with some homemade sauce, don't have time to baby the 10 hours as is proper, and will still be good.

See when the beefed up the frames they dropped the hornet and 30-30, both those calibers make sense in a truck gun.

Take her easy out there.  I slipped on the two step stairway from the garage to the house a little while ago.  Screwed up my left wrist and hand (nothing broken).  Took forever to get back to normal, just don’t recover as quick as I used to.

Coffee's on...   Happy Halloween

Was gonna prep the boiling oil, Rita hid it.    ::)

She's off to go buy candy and other errands, not allowed to hand out candy either, after the one year she went with the kids and left me in charge, I thought it was funny, the kids and parents thought it was funny, Rita got home and didn't. ::)

Had on the nightshirt and cap, dog on a leash, when they came to the door and hollored Trick or Treat, I looked at them and said, "you woke me for this?"

No Trick or Treat here... too rural ... to far between and back to folks doors  :-\
We used to take Kelly to Melbourne to make the rounds with her cousins...

Now she inters Pet costume contests sponsored Pets Mart  , has wins or places most every year.... She puts a lot into it.
Last year, She won a years supply of dog food from Purina, and Photo session for a road side Billboard.
She donated the food back to an animal shelter, and she & her dog were on a Bill Board for 6 Months.

She entered one at Disney's Celebrations last week , she won dog food , pet toys and I think some $$

We don'thave many kids live in our neighborhood, but we get 150-200, young ones, minority kids what ever that means, nice kids, figure they come over because they live in bad neighborhoods to the east of us.   So we pass it out, most the neighbors do and are home, mostly an over 40 area we live in.

Over the past twenty or more years from when I came back to this house to live, at the most there have only be twelve kids on one night time that have shown up for trick or treat. Almost doesn't make buying treats to hand out worth while. The past two years there have been None!
It seems most Parents these days take the kids to the Mall's
I have Microwave Pop Corn bags for tonight should any show up.
I'll just have to wait and see.
My best,
 Blair

We get very few trick or treaters where I live.  I expect even fewer today as the weather isn't cooperating.  Miss Red was clever and bought Skiddles...which I don't like, but the kids seem to like them.

Miss Red dressed up today in her period correct clothes (same as in my profile picture) for work at the resale shop today.  She strapped on a bling black belt and some black bling holsters I made.  She couldn't take the Rugers that she sometimes shoots.  No license for open carry.  She didn't scare anybody, but she did get called "Annie Oakley"  :)

She is making us some cheesy shrimp and grits for supper tonight...mmmmMMMMmmm!   ;D

No trick or treaters here, they go to town instead of coming here where there's one house per mile. Our church was going to have a bonfire and hayride at one member's farm, cancelled due to rain and mud, just had it in the church gym(without the fire and hay, of course).
