VERRY VERRY nice goodie to find under the tree  ;D   Transfer Bar.   Humpff.   I don't know if I like it or not.  Actually, I think I like it.

Way Back in the Way Back (Sherman and the Professor).  Uberti built a Transfer Bar gun that tuned up rather nice.  Appropriate rubbin-N-buffin and change the springs and they ran really nice.  Sold under the Beretta banner.  Always nice to to have a SA safe to carry 6 up.

Im kinda in between liking the transfer bar and not liking it, it can be stiff at times. It will refuse to cock sometimes or when I fully cock it, it'll try to shoot up to half cock; so it's a 50/50, shoots very nice. But it gots some work in it to make it nice.

Looks like it has the stupid two knotch safety base pin.  I'm not sold on the transfer bar system.  I hope they don't go to making them all that way.

Bibbyman!!

How on earth can you be critical of the "Two Notch" cylinder base pin???  That base pin is designed to keep you safe after you load up with 6, climb up on your step ladder and drop the gun on it's hammer!!  We all do that at least once or twice... RIGHT!!

Second thing I do after getting the current crop of SAs out of the box is cut the last - or first - depending on your point of view, 3/16 inch off the base pin, then bevel and polish the end.  Then you can shove it all the way in ALL the time.  Although, after the modification, you will NOT be able to load up 6, go up on the step ladder and drop it on it's hammer.  Bad Ju Ju.  ;D

At least it has three screws instead of two pins.

I made custom base pins for the 4 Cattlemans we use in Cowboy Action Shooting.  Also, installed Runnin' Irons hammers that have no safety block.

I took it apart to wipe some oil away and two sets of springs and pins came out of god knows where. can't even find a schematic to put it back together. The box didn't even come with one! it came with a cattleman instructions!

There's one in the trigger guard, and one more i have no idea where it goes! i called stoger and they were supposed to send a schematic for the gun. but im pretty sure they're busy and the thing doesn't even exist atm.

Wow! Coil main spring; transfer bar and frame mounted firing pin!
One might as well buy a Ruger.  ::)

perhaps this will help ,  its for the Stampede...Uberti made them with Transfer Bars , and later with Coil Mains ( just before the  Beretta/Uberti discontinued them. )

Thats the schematic i was sent, I'll probably order the parts to make it a regular cattleman in the near future. Scattered Thumbs, it was a gift and yes its a ruger clone.

Have you shot it yet?   I'd be standing in line at the return counter.

People poohaa the old Colt design and flock to "built like tanks" new technology.  But the old Colt design is simple enough the uneducated on the frontier could disassemble, make crude repairs and get working again.  And they were carried by people that really needed and used them for real life situations.

That's kinda my thought. Plus not that you would likely need it, Ruger has the best customer service going.
