Pietta Navy Colt Sheriff 1861 .36 case hardened version
« on: November 11, 2005, 08:26:37 PM »
I've just bought above from a member of my club - mint condition boxed, spare nipples, all kinds of cleaning solutions, nipple key (expensive type) flask, 200 balls, caps, full container of Pyrodex- he's shot it eighteen times - 75 pounds.

Going to try it out tomorrow.

Is this gun correct historically, was this model made in this guise?  After a quick search can't find much info on it.  Any info regarding appreciated.

I take it this is an 1861 Navy, 6 shot, with a 5.5" barrel.  While Colt never made this, it was common enough for a postwar gunsmith to cut 2" off the barrel and loading lever for a faster handling weapon.  So its plenty historical.

Sounds right to me.  Good for you.

Isn't that a pretty little gun?

Shoots and handles very well, in fact far more accurate than I had expected.  At 20 yds using 15 g of pyrodex on average 4 inch spread off hand no problem.  I reckon with practice I should be able to get tighter groups.
Although I love my Remington 1858 this Colt (clone) really feels natural and comes to point of aim supurbly.
